I’m a consultant orthopaedic surgeon. I’m triple vaccinated as well as the flu jab to protect my family, patients (young and old), colleagues and anyone I come into contact with by reducing the risk of transmission. I understand that vaccinations aren’t just about me.
How much do you pay a highly specialist tradesman in the middle of the night when there’s an emergency?
Have no doubt these headlines are designed to be inflammatory
Absolutely delighted to have been appointed as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with the amazing team

I think you are going to find a lot of senior consultants quite happy and quite a few juniors not so much. I don’t think that’s an accident
My son won a Man United kit in the after school club raffle. He didn’t want it (obviously) and came home with these instead 😂

I’m not sure of the source…but to say you are at the same level as a “gp registrar” after 12 months is absurd.
When it comes to Dunning-Kruger this is off the chart. I’m not sure what they teach, or how they teach it… but I was dumbstruck when I started as an FY1
According to this, I could theoretically become a GP partner in 5 years, starting from scratch.
This is quicker than an actual doctor who has just graduated from medical school would be able to (if they can even get a training place).
How this can possibly be right?
She talks like they are children. No acknowledgement EVER from the Tory party how long and how far real terms pay has fallen behind inflation for a decade and has the audacity to suggest we are “chasing it”

junior doctors should be tackling the backlog of elective surgeries.
Today I worked on a 2x consultant surgeon trauma list, covered the wards and spoke to several different medical specialties. Patient care was not compromised. I fully support our juniors.

Where’s the oversight/regulation/indemnity for that? It’s non existent. As it shouldn’t be.
Doctors and surgeons should be taught to do the operations and tasks that will be staple to their work.
Cases like this, with no clinical history only provide shock/concern to general public.
Treat the patient in-front of you, full medical history, clinical exam. Leaving displaced fractures alone can be a completely appropriate treatment. Without all the info it’s just an x-ray
“The next NICE guidelines will not have aspirin for VTE prophylaxis after hip arthroplasty” big words from

Having a chat with my trainee this morning about fracture plating. Does anyone view the biomechanics of buttress/anti glide differently? My understanding from AO is they are the same. But others disagree. Thoughts?

What’s very clear from elective clinics is the extent of SEVERE Arthritis with extensive acetabular erosion/femoral collapse with LLD that’s occurred as a result of the delays incurred due to Covid

The Bolton Arthroplasty Course is now celebrating its 20th year! This 2 day course (12-13th May) is being held F2F for the first time since the COVID pandemic. It is aimed at Core trainees/early years registrars wishing to get a better grasp of hip and knee arthroplasty. 1/

@thomasdolphin
Harassment of what? A title? Tom hasn’t named anyone.
In a patient facing role, on paper, the title on the sign is clearly obfuscating.
Whether you like it or not, there is a need and indeed a legal obligation to be clear with patients about your role and qualifications.
Oncall tonight and got a video message from my 3yo saying that he wants me to “ask the boss of the bone keepers to let me come home” because “he doesn’t want daddy to fix bones when he’s asleep” 😂
All sounds quite sinister 🙈

I’m not sure you are in a position to consider Mr Harries decision “reflex and unconsidered” without speaking to him personally.
This is a poor choice of tone.
The government can get senior doctors back doing waiting list initiatives if they want. Many doctors want to do extra sessions and clear backlogs. Punitive annual allowance taxation is preventing this 👇🏻

Do you still agree (with yourself) its "crazy not to fix this" and are you still "on the case", Mr. Chancellor?

Bill Ryan has retired. He was a fantastic TPD, a brilliant trainer (x2) and I was very lucky to call him a colleague for the last couple of years.
Their will be a giant hole in orthopaedics in Greater Manchester now that he’s gone. Cheers Bill

I’m not accepting it.
It does nothing for me on the short term and not a great deal over an entire career.
The public require a functioning healthcare service. I’ve not had a patient receiving care complain about the strikes.
