Today my parents started a journey having been inspired to travel by car from Manchester to Lahore, Pakistan, their birthplace! Both are 60 and so full of life! I'm immensely proud of them for doing it. I plan to join them on their return voyage in December 👀

THE RETURN JOURNEY!.Day 1: Van - Bingöl.Flew in early morning and reunited with my globetrotting parents. Coffee and biscuits at the beautiful Lake Van. Drove 4 hours and got stuck in a blizzard and had to reroute to Bingöl. Very nearly had to sleep in the car. What a start!

Day 2: Departing Gare de L'Est to Stuttgart. Then catching a train from Stuttgart to Munich. Finishing off on a train to Budapest. Total distance - 1489km 🚄

Day 4. It's a beautiful morning. Long day ahead. Just under 3hrs in Bucharest. Today we're getting 4x trains. Bucharest to Ruse. Ruse to Gorna. Gorna to Dimitrovgrad and then catching the Sofia-Istanbul sleeper at Dimitrovgrad. Hopefully they have a cabin available for us 😬🤞🏼

End of day 4. It's been a long one. Just about managed to get a 2 bed cabin on the sleeper train. Initially told no availability + some loss in translation but with some charm/comm skills/diplomacy/bribery (€40 upgrade fee). we got there in the end. Time to sleep 💤

Day 4.Munich - Hallstatt - Graz.Today included a stop in the village of Hallstatt. On Lake Hallstatt's western shore is Austria's mountainous Salzkammergut region. Finished the day in Graz. Eastern Europe here they come!.🇩🇪🇦🇹

Day 3:.Göttingen - München.321 miles.Took it easier today to avoid burnout. Decided to have date night in Munich. Mums happy. I would have taken them to Manchesterplatz if I was with them! Onwards to Austria tomorrow.

Day 13: Antalya - Mersin.Long drive today punctuated by many scenic stops. Found a beautiful beach for afternoon tea. As ever the hospitality has been amazing. I ask them daily if they're tired yet. still no! They are thoroughly enjoying it.

Plus 3x nights in a hotel in Paris, Budapest & Istanbul at ~£100 per night. One way flight back from Istanbul £150 each. 2x nights will be spent on sleeper trains so the cost is included in the train fare. Including food/miscellaneous purchases approx £1500 total for both of us.

Day 12: Bodrum - Antalya.The plan to go to Kos was scuppered as they missed the ferry. No worries, they decided to carry on down the road to Antalya. Maybe on the way back. Dad's clearly getting used to posing for the camera too!

Just got off the train at Stuttgart and caught an earlier train to Munich which was slightly delayed. Buzzing. Loving the flexibility of the interrail pass. Interesting stag do costume's. they were all German?!

Day 4: Istanbul - Rest Day .Early morning trip to the local tyre shop to get the slow puncture sorted. Managed to get a progress meeting done via teams. Spent the day relaxing otherwise. Went on the Ferry Taxi up the Bosphorous and explored a little. Visited the usual spots.

Day 12: Verdun - Manchester.Made it home!! As much as I love travelling. There's nothing better than being back home in Manc. 3500 miles covered! What a trip. The @ToyotaUK was a little beast. It's put 15,000 miles on the clock with only a slow puncture to show for it.

Day 11' Çanakkale - Bodrum.Whilst it's cold and rainy in Manchester. It's warm and sunny in Turkey. Tomorrow is going to be a rest day. A detour is on the cards. Kos and then Rhodes? They said they'll decide when they wake up 😬😂

Day 20: Shiraz - Kerman.They have got themselves into a nice routine. Early morning starts. Drive for about 6-7 hours. Arrive at their destination and explore in the evening.

Day 16: Tabriz - Qom.Back on the road. SIM sorted, managed to catch up. They've been received very well. People wave at them whilst driving past 😂 The @ToyotaUK had an oil change. The locals have never seen this model before and love it. People are amazed at what they're doing!

Day 8: Kotor - Berane.They have found a gem of a country in Montenegro. Drove up one of the most scenic roads. Dad was loving the hairpins. Mum was hanging on 🤣 .Day ended with a home cooked curry 👌🏼.We asked them if they're missing us. not yet! .🇲🇪.

Probably the best game I've ever seen at Old Trafford. It was electric. Kobe Mainoo in the first half was special. Garnacho was a nuisance all game. Amad Diallo made sure he could break his fast on time! Want some more of that, nothing like it!

Day 15: Batman - Tabriz.Early start today to make it to the Kapiköy border with Iran. Got through with minimal hassle. Carried onto Tabriz to settle for the night. Probably the most exciting/anxious part of the trip! Interested to see how the next few days pan out. 🇹🇷🇮🇷

Day 10: Gevgelija - Çanakkale.Departed North Macedonia into Greece in the morning, heading towards Turkey. Saw charred forestry along the way from the recent wildfires. Crossed the border and settled for the night after a kebab for dinner. Plan is to do the coastal route!.🇲🇰🇬🇷🇹🇷

Day 21: Kerman - Zahedan.Heading towards the next border. Tomorrow they'll be crossing into Pakistan. Decided to post a video instead as it just looks so good. The hospitality of the Iranian people has stood out. They've loved it.

Day 2: Bingöl - Uçhisar.Long drive today. 8 hours in the car. Central Turkey is beautiful. We had clear skies and sun all day. Up and down mountain roads. We reached Uçhisar and have our alarms set for 5:30 for a little early morning excursion! 🔥🎈

Day 7: Mostar - Kotor.116 miles.Took a scenic route into Montenegro today. Mountainous roads most of the way. They had to have a few stops for to take in the views. 🇧🇦🇲🇪

For those asking about the cost of the trip. I paid £50 extra each for first class interrail passes. Some trains require mandatory seat reservations and have a small fee. The only optional extras I've paid is €30 for the business upgrade on Munich to Budapest train. ~£750 total.

Day 23: Taftan - Quetta.Long drive through different terrain. Mountains, salt plains and desert. They've seen it all. My dad's friend who is originally from Quetta found out only yesterday what he was doing and booked the hotel as a welcome gift! Too kind.

Day 14: Mersin - Batman.Today included a trip to the cave where it is believed the Seven Sleepers hid. The aim for tomorrow is to cross into Iran.

Day 3: Uçhisar - Istanbul .Had an awesome day. Started off with a little trip on a hot air balloon to catch the sunrise. Highly recommended. Then drove 8 hours to Istanbul. Finished the day at my favourite kebab place. Rest day tomorrow. Perfect place for it.

Day 24: Quetta - Multan.There really is no concept of health and safety in this part of the world! The lorries are overloaded but kitted out in all sorts of colours and designs. Last leg tomorrow!! Lahore here they come.

Day 7: Belgrade - Sarajevo.Beautiful drive through the Dinaric alps. Found the perfect spot for a brew after crossing the border. Border officer hadn't seen the new navy British passport before and thought it was fake 😬. Had to explain Brexit. Loving Sarajevo, it's just cool!

For those of you wondering. My parents started their return journey from Lahore, Pakistan on the 7th of December. They spent a lot longer going through Iran. They say it's been one of their favourite places to visit. A hidden gem tarnished by bad media/press.

Day 8: Sarajevo .So much history. Visited the tunnel of hope and learnt how it was the lifeline to the people during the recent war. Bullet holes in buildings are still visible around the place. Stood at the spot where Franz Ferdinand was shot and where WW1 started! 🤯.Cool city!

Day 10: Mostar - Bled.Covered some mileage today. Straight through Croatia into Slovenia which is a great drive. Our host for the night is Bogdan, who told me he'd jumped off the old bridge at Mostar back in the day (it's a thing that people do for fun 😬). Hoping for a utd win🤞🏼

Day 16: Rest Day!.Well deserved break today. Got the car cleaned. Tried to get a local data SIM but no luck so far. Not been able to send any pictures or videos. Very friendly and helpful locals giving tips and recommendations for their travels through Iran.

Day 11: Bled - Verdun.950KM covered today. Been so lucky with the weather. Got postcard views of the Austrian mountains. Last night on the road. Looking forward to getting home now. Next stop Manchester!!

Day 6: Sofia - Belgrade.Left Sofia early morning. Straight through border control. Went to see the St Sava Church which is stunning. Belgrade is full of history! Mind boggling to be able to walk these streets. I will definitely be coming back to explore it some more.

Lake Van is stunning! The drive from there was through stunning mountainous roads. The locals are so friendly. When we got stuck in the snow in the evening. 2x police officers helped push the car out of some deep snow. Proper legends.

Day 5: Istanbul - Sofia.It's always hard to leave Istanbul. However needs must! The border crossing was smooth, unexpected given all the Google reviews. Had a little drive around Sofia. Turns out my Bulgarian friend Rayko grew up across the road from where we're staying!
