Highbury LTN made permanent. Traffic down 76% on internal roads and down 4% overall on boundary roads. Cycling up 52% on internal roads and up 6% on boundary roads. Great progress but still more to do to reduce traffic on Blackstock north and Seven Sisters, in particular.

And to think that LTN advocates believe that one their strongest arguments for LTNs is that people within LTNs will drive less. Car ownership is rising in many LTNs. And even their own reports show modal shift is 'limited'.

@petemorristwit I notice most of the anti-London posts are from non-Londoners. It’s one of the world’s great cities but, hey, maybe great cities are not for you. London has become safer, cleaner, more vibrant and generally better over the last 40 years. 😀 It’s no cheaper, though!

@SocEnvJustice Residents exempt. Black cabs exempt. Minicabs exempt. Uber has been offered an exemption but declined it. Any car can still access anywhere in the LTN, free of charge. But people are somehow being 'forced' to walk the streets alone?

@carlafrancome A hard core on FB groups in Islington is still complaining bitterly 18 months in. But that’s deceptive. Schemes here aren’t perfect; there are still problems to fix, but sparse attendance at protests & resounding defeat of anti-LTN candidates in elections suggest broad support.

@alexklaushofer @IslingtonBC @islingtongztte I also had dinner with friends in Islington. We are delighted at the results of the LTNs. Roads in LTNs: traffic down 64%, cyling up 49%. Boundary roads: traffic down 3%, cycling up 19%. @IslingtonBC is listening and making positive changes. 😁👍

@ShimanoSteve @CTMAJA @carlafrancome Here's the evidence from my area: Islington. Traffic on boundary roads - with a few exceptions - generally at pre-LTN levels or lower. Still issues to fix on some roads but this suggests our LTNs are generally effective in reducing traffic. No evidence yet of emissions reduction.

@PhilWalkable Cute but seems more expensive, more hassle and less practical than an e-bike for urban use (43 mile range). Bike can go through 'no motor vehicles' filters and park anywhere for free. This can't. Perhaps useful for the elderly or disabled.
