When I left that company, I needed to transfer all those documents to the next librarian. All documents had to be physically on our possession in order for transfer to happen.

I was a project librarian for a Secret project in the 80s. I had to account for all 3,246 classified documents in our library. If a document was 'checked out' to another cleared employee (common practice) I needed to SEE the document every two weeks.
