Well, it's officially official. The Army has decided that I should be a Colonel. I seriously never thought I'd make it this far.
Almost exactly six years ago, my SR looked me in the eyes and knowingly screwed me over. 1/
“If you think you can do a better job, USSS is hiring. Apply via USAJOBS. Make it through basic Academy at Artesia. Get through the Post Academy (1 year) with a FTO. Get your time in to begin the transition to presidential. Do your time in DC. Get your GS11 appointment.”
A lot of people are harping on her for being "DEI"
Just gonna say, DEI wasn't a thing when she got it. To get a presidential detail in USSS takes a long time.
It's easy to criticize people in hindsight in a safe location. We all do it. We watch vids of dudes kicking doors down
The upshot is that this goof gave someone the opportunity to come off the alternate list and take a tactical battalion command. I bet that guy wasn’t complaining about a vaccination.
3 yrs ago on June 10, 2021, I assumed battalion command fully knowing I'd be fired soon after. I was relieved of command Oct 28, 2021 for not complying with the covid shot mandate implemented in Aug 2021.
The first 10 days of June 2021 were the hardest of my 19+ years in the
If not for my next cdr, who invested in me personally and essentially resurrected my career, I would have been an outlier for LTC and not competitive at all for BN Command. I think about that every time I see a thread on evals and taking care of Soldiers. Take care of your folks.
Iraq, 2005. This was the first time I’d ever been in a DFAC on one of the super-FOBs. My company was in Yusufiyah. My PLT lived in a former IP station that had been blown up by a VBIED. For some reason, I had to make a run to one of the big FOBs. Maybe Victory or Anaconda?
PSA for my mil folks:

Unit mottos are fine, personal messages or inspirational quotes are not.
Amazing contempt of the reserve components. Respect to him for his service in Desert Storm, but I'm not surprised he didn't stick past LT. He's an archetype. I'm guessing he would probably have been a MAJ when I was a LT. And everyone would have hated him.
To serve 24 years and then finally get the call to do something really trying -to retroactively earn all those paychecks, as it were - and then run away….to a military sensibility, it’s just unconscionable.
@Havoc_Six
I can at least respect “it was about slavery, but I don’t care.” I just don’t get how people can convince themselves that it wasn’t about slavery.
I guess the IDF’s biggest fanboy got upset that we realized he’s a retired Major and not an actual U.S. Army Colonel. I was wondering why I hadn’t seen any of his trash recently.
I see we're back to talk about the American Civil War again. Let me break this down for you, I've watched a few of them unfold over the past decade.
A Civil War in the United States would look nothing like the Civil War from between April 1861 and April 1865. Dominantly because
I started thinking seriously about creating culture in a BDE since I got selected for COL. Trying to emulate
@ChowdahHill
wouldn’t be authentic for me, but I’m adding everyone’s best ideas to my toolbox while I have time to think about it.
Why am I getting emails asking for references for a potential battalion XO assignment? It's KD. Getting a KD assignment shouldn't be a knife fight. It's mandatory. It's key... and developmental.
The Arlington debacle is different. A lot of veterans are reaching out to me about how angry they are. Even my most politically neutral friends are enraged. Arlington is sacred. Trump, Cheung, and LaCivita have hit the third rail of the military community by using Section 60 for
Ffs. See my earlier comment on FDD. Please explain to me how we should do this that won’t be even more of a strategic train wreck than the GWOT and won’t weaken the U.S. while strengthening Russia and China.
I just spoke to CPT. Timothy Botset(Retired),the Brigade S1 that “signed”
@RepTroyNehls
CIB order.
He unequivocally states he DID NOT sign this memorandum, and he doesn’t know who did. He was on EML(Emergency Leave) when this was signed. He also states he doesn’t know of anyone
This is simply laughably incorrect — there’s a reason why the IDF has rescued a whopping 7 total hostages (minus their one soldier who was captured).
DoD as a whole (and SOCOM in particular) are quite literally looking at this whole debacle as a textbook example of how ‘not’ to
I got a really good intel-deep dive from a young analyst this morning. Turns out that she’s only three years older than my daughter. I refuse to believe I’m old enough for that to be true.
@DrTraceyK
After retweeting this I realized we were on the same command list, although due to my good fortune (and aided by COVID) I took command a year earlier than him.
She’s heard of Hezbollah, but has she heard of the Lebanese Civil War? Why does Hezbollah oppose Israel? The answer is not “Palestine.”
This is not Hezbollah 101. It’s a footnote written by a 7th grader. Please don’t get your information about the Middle East from her.
@ArmisDei
Nope, actually Nikki is kick-ass and 100% correct. Time to roll the rest of these monuments to racial tyranny right into the smelter. Too bad they aren’t going to smush the ANC monument.

They were named for former Confederate leaders as part of the effort to suppress, intimidate, and disenfranchise African Americans after Reconstruction. The bases are predominantly in the South, although streets, etc., were everywhere.
@callsigncowgirl
i work awards for the entire BN. or BDE CDR approves awards by rank. if you’re not a SGG+ you’re not getting approved for an ARCOM. only field grade officers get their MSM’s sent up for approval. he stops the rest at himself even though that’s against regulation.
Got the list of forecasted infantry O6 commands for FY26 today… there’s a surprising overlap between possible BDEs and LTs/CPTs that I follow on Twitter… 😬
Although they’d virtually all have moved on by the time I took command.
It’s that time of year, folks. Changes of command are coming. LTCs and Colonels, please pass the flag correctly. Show your troops how to do it properly. No arm crossing. See TC 3-21.5.

Guy, SSGs don’t get MSMs for doing their job. They get MSMs for far exceeding the standard expected for their rank and position. It takes a lot for a MG to give a junior NCO a MSM. Feel free to post the 638s for your MSMs, though.
I won't breath easy until assignments get published around December, but the AIM Marketplace is looking like we finally got my next job sorted out.
Good luck to everyone else in the assignment cycle right now.
@StolenValor1
Those comments are brutal. Maybe he was chilling with our supply SPC who literally dropped the M240B off the HMMWV while driving down the highway when the CO CDR took him out on a raid as a gunner.
No shit.
“The IDF is reporting that Hezbollah are better trained than Hamas and do not break off contact when challenged, often fighting at close proximity. That is a very different doctrine from Hamas. Expect more fierce battles.”
We know a lot more about the battle in Lebanon, where six soldiers lost their lives. The battle took place in serious fog, and visibility was nearly zero. That made all this more difficult.
There was an encounter between Hezbollah Radwan terrorists and IDF soldiers from the Egoz

I went to public school in Texas and we were (thankfully) never taught that the Civil War had “little if anything” to do with slavery. I had students at West Point that believed it. Blew my mind.
I don’t have a monopoly on truth, but I do have 2x MAs (one researching ISR/Palestine and one researching Hezbollah) and 21 years experience.🤷♂️ And this is actually my current job in the Joint Staff.
The extreme brainrot you must have to block a U.S Army LTC with expertise on MENA(and also a combat vet) that was respectful on her comments, just because you don't like hearing uncomfortable facts. What a clown Brianna is
Day 1 of the Joint Women’s Leadership Symposium was outstanding. Definitely worth the (someone else’s) money and I’m glad I’m getting to attend. I’m actually a little fried for some reason.

“In fact, the US mil. has been an equal opportunity institution since it was desegregated in 1948 with the guarantee that it would enforce ‘equality of treatment and opportunity for all persons in the armed services without regard to race, color, religion, or national origin.’”
@AllThingsCivil
Also, anyone who wants to whine about 19-yo’s being trained and then entrusted to do the jobs they were trained for can feel free to step right up also.
@EODHappyCaptain
On the other hand, CYS should be open before the duty day starts and should be funded to accommodate the total need of the population.
Some thoughts coming out of the Joint Women's Leadership Symposium. Bottom line, it was a great event and well worth my time. Made a few new connections, although I missed both
@cpt_blondie
and
@peoples_unicorn
. I hope I can attend again next year. 🧵
