Totally agree. I’m sure the Queen would have been horrified by the disruption to essential services & the ludicrous decision making behind it by our “leaders”.

Absolutely. Palliative care funding in the UK should be a priority for the next government. It’s crazy that UK hospices are dependent on charity. Great palliative care such as my late wife
@DrJennyVaughan
received from
@trinityhospice
community team is amazing.
A lot of Palliative care is funded by charity. Is this acceptable in a caring civilised society?
Many people are passionate about assisted dying, yet the vast majority of Drs who see 100s of deaths are against it
What Drs want is funded palliative care
Indeed. If the report itself wasn’t shocking enough, “Dr” Hilton’s reaction was outrageous. At least he was also stupid enough to put his name at the end.

will hopefully take action. The rest of us must reflect more humbly on our behaviour & eradicate misconduct.
Are UK patients paying the price for an over-dependence on telephone consultations? We’re seeing a series of patients whose first physical examination is when they are diagnosed with advanced disease, sometimes after months of remote encounters. Time to rethink

Close call. Reminds me of a clinic letter to a patient by my colleague “I resected a haemorrhoid from this patient’s arm….” Not quite sure whether it was the “haemorrhoid” or the “arm” that sounded similar to another word!

Thank you so much for summarising this report, especially as it must have made such painful reading. All of us in healthcare owe it to parents past & future to lobby for the lessons to be turned into action across the NHS.
We owe all those effected by recent inquiry reports, maternity professionals who deserve to work in safe & kind systems & future users of NHS maternity services - to ensure that this isn’t the case.

Such a ridiculous claim by
@TheTelegraph__
that mortality rate can be correlated with recent strike action. The ignorance of how mortality statistics work is astonishing but I suspect deliberate. In my hospital during the last strike, mortality was zero.
Today it has been reported that during our first round of action in England mortality rate was 11.1% above the 5 year average.
What they haven’t reported was that in Wales, where no strike action took place, mortality rate was 14% above the 5 year average. 1/3
Very brave & moving video by this young doctor. Well done for sharing. In healthcare, we all need to familiarise ourselves with the

It is for the sake of these desperate patients that myself and many of my surgical colleagues have opted to run full elective operating lists on 19th September. I truly believe the late Queen would have approved.

As part of the WHO theatre checklist everyone in the team pre-op brief introduces themselves by first names & role only. This should empower anyone to speak up at any time. It’s a safe culture to adopt elsewhere (although I personally draw the line at being called “mate” !!)

question, warning may be controversial!Addressing consultants - first name or Mr/Miss. I ask everyone to call me Rebecca, however almost all my male counterparts are Mr. Persist in trying to lower hierarchy for all? Or am i worsening the deep misogyny in the system??
Absolutely. Such payments will only penalize the disadvantaged & vulnerable, i.e. the majority of NHS service users for whom it was set up. Eye-watering sums of NHS money have been wasted by this government & previous ones
No.

I use this mesh all the time for small umbilical/paraumbilical hernias & it’s great. However, the long “tail” of mesh seems utterly pointless. I just cut it off.

My sincere condolences to you & your family. I’m totally with you when you call PC “emperor of all maladies”. My mother passed with pancreatic cancer during my FY2 year 3 months after diagnosis. Keep reminding yourself of lovely memories. Take care.
These meshes come in 4.3cm, 6.4cm and 8.4cm diameters. Great for small umbilical/paraumbilicals & shown to be superior to suture repair of defects >I5mm. I have very low recurrence even for 4.3cm mesh: it’s about placement (I do pre-peritoneal) and fixation (I use 2/O prolene).
