Huge congratulations to the amazing
@prokarurol
on his OBE In the King’s Honours list. Colleague, friend and mentor to so many of us
@GuysUrology
and far beyond. The great innovator keeps us all going.

No

information sheets?- no problem. Already in use by the patients! Not sure why we didn’t think of this before. Thanks to
@UroNoel
& Angus Bruce for getting it sorted

What are the 50 Landmark papers urologists should know? for a new

book. These can be a new procedure, evaluating effects of new treatments/techniques, new classification system or insights into disease. With great coauthors

goes well it really is the absolute business. 450cc Prostate with high pressure chronic retention for 10 months. 399gm resected-Hard graft. Twoc day 1. Voiding well. Pic with permission. To see the smile on his face is why we do this 😄

I am a Consultant in urology & associate professor in a large teaching hospital. I’m vaccinated/boosted as are my teenage children. Vaccination is an important step in protecting my loved ones, my colleagues & my patients. It reduces morbidity, mortality & reduces ICU admission.
Amazing stats for
@GSTTnhs
Robotics in 2021. Almost 1300 robotic operations (mainly cancer) over 5 specialities by 24 surgeons despite all the covid issues. Most ever in the 🇬🇧 for one trust!
@GuysUrology
@IntuitiveSurg
Well done all our teams.
Surgery must be one of the few professions where your performance the day before a holiday directly impacts on whether you can actually go on the holiday.

How many times can one take the blood pressure and adrenaline surge of the robotic partial nephrectomy? And teaching it! Cracked the personal 700 mark

Old problem- new solutions. The prostatic middle lobe- at the centre of so much that we do in
#bph
it has its own flow rate patterns, symptom profile, response to medications and treatment options.

@NatRevUrol
@DrFairleighR
'I lost my dad to prostate cancer, don't lose yours' Really sensible messages in this. We are missing 14,000 men who should have been diagnosed due to covid
“Not much will come out. You’ll only need a couple of syringes they said!” Prostatic abscess in a man awaiting cardiac valve surgery. Drained transperineally under sedation.

PACS now not needed? Time to trust the 3D model. Everything it shows: is-right-there. Robotic partial nephrectomy in a horseshoe kidney. Complex vascular anatomy but made simple thanks to

Last few days to apply for the
@GuysUrology
robotic fellowship posts for October 2024 start. Longest running UK robotic fellowship. Biggest UK robotic programme. 5 da Vinci’s plus new robots.
A big congratulations to our consultant urologist
@benchallacombe
who received a

Golden Telescope. The award is given to clinicians who have made an outstanding contribution to urology and he's the third consultant from our Trust to receive it
HoLEP Consent.
Patients with arts/humanities backgrounds “just tell me where to sign”
Patients with engineering backgrounds “I’ve watched a video,made notes, drawn a diagram. How do you establish the enucleation plane, what λ is Holmium, does voiding follow Poiseuille's law ?”
End of an era with robotic fellows

graduating. Ata to a consultant job

ride. Thanks for your hard work.
What would you do? We are facing an Interesting hospital dilemma in London now. Save some ITU beds for time critical surgical cancer cases (Av stay 2 days/3 patients per week) or use for unvaccinated covid patients potentially staying several weeks?
@nishanturo
It’s not specifically that the subject is FEMALE GU fistulae but the fact that whoever set up the panel didn’t even consider a little bit of gender diversity on it in 2020! Would be equally outraged if on prostate cancer or stones. A few men please stand aside
#manel
Our amazing CNSs
@GuysUrology
do so much work and much of it is firefighting and picking up issues where others can’t be reached.
@louisafleure
explains the problem over a 10day audit and a satirical view of how the systems responds! 🐎 We are so grateful to them.
Thanks to our amazing faculty at the robotic masterclass module of the Advanced
@UrologyBootCamp
. Great to show our stuff to, mentor and advise the senior Sprs. Hugely grateful to the amazing

for inviting us.

It has been a real honour to look after
@stephenfry
and I’m so grateful to him for agreeing to write this article so other men can better understand many of the issues surrounding
#prostatecancer
treatment.
@TUF_tweets
has lots of additional complementary information.
Increasingly What seems outrageous today will seem utterly inadequate tomorrow.
#coronavirus
now plans to end elective surgery, go to phone consults only. The potential ICU numbers are pretty worrying. We all Need to socially isolate
#FlattenTheCurve
Be careful guys. Test pre-op, isolate patients for at least a week, operate in full PPE, but only operate if absolutely needed. For London just big RCC, NU, TURBT, orchidectomy, ? Cystectomy. Elective deaths post op are real. What seems outrageous today is inadequate tomorrow.
Hugely important given that we are not testing patients preop.
Asymptomatic infected individuals are likely very common in the community. Operating on these people appears very risky - very few if any elective operations carry anything near a 20% mortality rate.
My child’s year 8 (u13) science book. As a urologist I’m amazed by this!.
#prostate
doesn’t even feature. How are men meant to know about it if they aren’t ever taught it even exists?
@BAUSurology
@ProstateUK
we need to educate.
Look who just happened to be passing! Still sharp as a tack and funny as ever. The legend that is Dr Patrick Walsh. 50 years on from his famous nerve discovery

We have 8 robotic SCPs. Incredibly dedicated senior nurses. Some have done >3000 robotic cases. They can teach the medical students, registrars, fellows and even us consultants many things and regularly do. You can be taught by whoever knows the subject area
@GuysUrology
Using
@innersightlabs
for planning pre robotic RPLND. Quite a big 6cm mass post 3x BEP chemo, but well defined + minimal aortic effacement. Ureter- yellow is close. But Should we stent pre-op?
Where is everyone? Covid doesn’t cure cancer & we know how many cancer diagnoses there should be each year. Missing almost 50% of the
#prostatecancer
diagnoses in SE London this year & plenty of breast, gynae and lung cancers.

Ever so grateful to our wonderful
@NHSuk
for the care I have had since January culminating in a surgical procedure at

under the excellent
@benchallacombe

Work experience student this week “why bother dictating, typing and sending letters to GPs about their consultation. Why not just type notes into the PC and the GP can read it directly. “ If only!

This is a stressful time for men with

who are awaiting treatment. Urologists please read

Looks a fantastic webinar and I wish you well with it. But At a time when you can recruit anyone in the whole world it seems odd you couldn’t find one women to ask onto the panel. X is good. Some XX would be better!
#looklikeaurologist
@morefluids
Called a man into clinic post prostatectomy with the women he was chatting to. Asked how his continence was. When I enquired about his erections he said he would rather not say. That’s odd I thought, then he said the woman was a neighbour he just met in the clinic!
We thought it was time to evaluate both the positive and negative aspects of Retzius sparing RARP and its limitations. There is a balance between improved early continence & potentially higher positive margin rates.

Vip Patel the worlds most experienced radical prostatectomist rejects retzius sparing approach due to oncological concerns & difficulty teaching this challenging procedure. He Would rather focus on optimising functional outcomes of standard approach.
