wasn't met with the same scrutiny over violence.
"He’s a white male and he kills 300 people and everybody’s laughing and hooting and hollering. Why does this movie get held to different standards?"
@RichardHanania
She wasn't using a racial slur, she was speaking casually in the language of the hip hop culture she is steeped in, not talking to or about anyone black. Like saying "dude".
You live in a $1.2M 2 bedroom on [redacted UWS street] & Riverside Drive. I agree those streets are cozy at night, when leaving your Uber or walking a dog. Not the experience of many 5'1 women, nor do they have the distorted incentives caused by podcasting your views for a living
Mark my words, when the last boomer retires and all those senior to us in every institution will be gen x or millennial, we will long for boomer rule. We'll cry out, but they won't answer.

Paradise Lost for the English dude. The Irish have a Gaelic epic, Ulysses is a novel and in English. Longfellow wrote some popular epics and Moby Dick is very important but probably misguided to think of "countries" having epics rather than languages (what is "Germany" here etc)
Are women OK? "Didion wasn't beautiful but she was glamorous" First of all she was pretty. Second of all she wasn't glamorous. She was confident and had an attitude, if that's what you mean. "Glam" Didion is a meme invented yesterday by the people who brought you "Notorious RBG"
It makes a lot of sense if you read William James's essay The Will To Believe. Foreign religion is not a threat bc it's not a real option in the first place; one can dabble in it without fear. Western religion should regard the continued presence of this distinction favorably
An odd thing about secular Western culture is that if you say you study the Bible in pursuit of wisdom people think "That's soooo religious" but if you do the same thing with Mahabharata, Yoga Sutras, Plato, Cicero, Marx, or Bon Iver people nod their heads like it's reasonable.
@TheCriticMag
Dude likes only his bad movies, lol:
"Fine offerings like The Aviator (2004) and Shutter Island (2010) might sporadically show that Scorsese still has it, but other efforts suggest that he doesn’t understand his own talent"
Kraebber declined to comment on the charges to the New York Post when reached by phone at her family's second home in Connecticut, saying: 'No — not right now — I don't want to talk about it.'

Suicide hotlines are harmful conversion therapy! We need more pro-suicide hotlines to help children manifest the negation of life so cruelly obstructed by their heart and lungs!

It later developed into a post-cold war feminized white fantasy of being a black warlord outside the clutches of HR, this apparently has more staying power than those amusing rhymesters you remember
Actually, America is so overwhelmed by SaidoMackinnonist "political art" and its legal infrastructure that in order to express dissatisfaction you're forced to make a neutral appeal to aestheticism because you're not allowed to say this stuff just sucks.

I love how that new online drug company has "Hims"=Viagra and "Hers"=anti-depressants. Something beautiful about the parallel gendered prescriptions
@Mochak123
Have yet to see him say anything original on the current situation or om anything else. Just a mashup of Nietzsche confused with Wagner via Strauss and internet-influenced pornographic raceplay entertainment.
Nuremberg Trials were predicated on the idea that death squads are "criminal", whereas strategic bombing and laying siege are not "criminal" - for if war itself were criminalized there could be no concept of "crimes of war".
ICC Prosector Karim Khan is seeking arrest warrants for Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas leaders Yahya Sinwar, Mohammed Deif and Ismail Haniyeh, on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
@jasonintrator
You're blaming it political philosophers who follow Rawls, they're blaming it on a racial variant of Rawlsianism. But it's telling that the status obsessed, who only take up causes fromwhich they stand to gain, think standing with unfavored causes is the real status seeking.
@RichardHanania
Obviously it's not a legitimate justification, and an attack on a Congressional building should be treated more harshly than random rioting. But in terms of descriptive history it's absurd to tell the story of that riot without the context of the preceding year.

There's a good mix of answers here with many of higher numbers said in jest. In general, if you ask someone to construct an imaginary person they're gonna answer with an ideal, rather than a "standard". All in all the answers are more or less reasonable
Ok I'm doing this. Our Taylor Swift course at Harvard is so popular that we need additional teaching assistants. If you live in the Boston/Providence metro, love Tay, & have *qualifications or experience to teach a writing intensive college course,* my DMs are open.
I used to laugh at the audacity of the French to call Michelangelo "Michel-Ange", but I'm reading an 1850 English translation of Conversations With Goethe and he is called "Michael Angelo", like an Italian-American from Long Island

Maybe it's a sign it identifies as aborted and needs an abortion.
Women have a write to choose, but not to have a baby if it identifies as an abortion
The uxorious Joseph Conrad rates his wife's cookbook "highly moral" and of crucial necessity to the Anglo-Saxons if they don't want to go the way of the Noble Red Man (whose wives sucked at cooking, causing them to lose their continent)
Was manspreading a tad on the subway and brushed the jeans of the fellow sitting next to me, who visibly bristled. When I got up to leave I saw he was reading Yukio Mishima
Right-wing male preoccupation with traditionally feminine eccentricities such as diet fads, the specter of pederasty and the alleged dangers of vaccines is a historic victory for feminism. If only Shulamith Firestone had lived to see the abolition of "gender" on the right.
Not to be outdone by Harvard, Georgetown

just hired this antisemite to be the “primary point of contact for all MSFS Students on everything academic.”
As an SFS student, I’d rather fail my master’s program than speak to someone who says this about my people.
Most white Americans are celebrating this day.
Their stack of anti-racism books sit untouched on a nightstand as they grill in star-spangled aprons.
During a pandemic.

There's a funny moment in an Arab communist journal I picked up, from the 70s, where they're like, "how can the PLO be a revolutionary movement? Their constituency hasn't even smelled the means of production in a quarter of a century" (they're arguing for Syria as the vanguard)
