Three out of four of these rabbis were shot by the NKVD, the fourth died ill and emaciated in exile, all of them convicted of the crime of practicing Judaism in the Soviet Union and sharing it with their brethren.
There are no tunnels in 770. Some morons decided to combine a neighboring basement with an existing basement synagogue. Not great, but absolutely not international news—literally every media outlet has gotten it wrong, blowing an episode of vandalism into wild proportions.
Being visibly Jewish anywhere in New York right now means being yelled at on the street for spreading disease. Not many people are talking about this, but it’s a fact—these are not isolated incidents.

Why does an institution like
@WeillCornell
think it's even remotely normal to respond to the NYPD searching for one of their employees for attacking Jews with some mumbo jumbo about Islamophobia? What does Islamophobia have to do with this?
Today we became aware of a recent antisemitic incident on the NYC subway. We condemn antisemitism in the strongest possible terms. Hate speech or actions of any kind, whether antisemitic or Islamophobic, are not tolerated by our community.
To my knowledge, 91-year-old Vanda Obiedkova, who perished in a Mariupol basement on April 4, is the first Jewish Holocaust survivor to die in the Ukraine war. During her excruciating last two weeks she kept asking: "Why is this happening?" via

Yelling “This is America, speak English!” is racist unless it is directed at Hasidic Jews. This editorial, for example, would be considered white nationalist had it been about another minority, but in the context of Hasidic Jews it’s progressive.
Lolol the New York Times is so bigoted it’s amazing. Imagine “If there is an archetypical American, that person might be found in Rye, be named Graham Cabot III, and eat lobster rolls.”

For a New York official to use official channels to twist the memorialization of the 6 million Jews murdered in the Holocaust into an indictment of what Jews today are doing in self defense is wild on so many levels.

We owe it to NYers to do everything in our power to make this city a place where everyone can afford to raise a family.

another painful part of this disgraceful story is that the organized Jewish community has done nothing to help young people trying to leave these communities

This one is not gonna stop shocking me. The
@nytimes
has so bought into itself as an anti-yeshiva crusader that it will cross any and all obvious journalistic boundaries to make it’s case. They quoted the director of Yaffed as an anonymous parent in an anti yeshiva piece. Hello?!
So the
@nytimes
profiles Yaffed’s director Beatrice Weber and then also uses her as an anonymous source? Talk about disinformation and echo chambers. This is utterly shocking stuff
I’ll post one more mugshot just to illustrate a bit more. Here’s Asher Sossonko, age 19 in a 1929 Soviet mug shot. His Russian wasn’t perfect, neither was his math, but here he is staring the modern, enlightened world in the face. He won; I was in yeshiva with his grandkids. 11
Something that needs to be pointed out: There is a long and exceedingly dark history of "enlightened" Jews going to the government & demanding it impose "enlightened" education upon *all* Jewish children. See, for example, the Yevsektzia's 1922 Trial of the Cheder in Vitebsk.
In 1977 the Rebbe suffered a heart attack at Hakafot; 43 years ago tonight the Rebbe went home. Among the Rebbe's doctors was Nobel winner Dr. Bernard Lown, who shared the Rebbe's vision of healing being far more than just science. New from me
