TOO BAD! tourists are not going to come here for escapism when we cannot even survive in our own country. we don’t care that fighting for our lives is inconvenient for them.
Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani has urged Generation Z to call off their weekly protests against the anti-finance bill as it is affecting the tourism economy, particularly in Kwale, Kenya's top tourist destination.
In the last 72 hours, Protest Organisers

Guys stop saying this. Rev. Njoya, Wangari Maathai, Willy Mutunga and many other unnamed brave people fought for us to have the voice to speak today. They fought with much less protections than what we have today. Let’s not disrespect their legacy.
Since we are not able to decide whether today is

, shouldn't we just do away with these public holidays? Quite clearly, they are not serving any purpose!
5 medics shot dead and 21 people abducted in 24 hours, in the same Kenya that the President has told us that we must respect rule of law and constitutionalism. I will start screaming in this house.
STATEMENT: 5 people have been shot dead while treating the injured. 31 people have been injured. 13 have been shot with live bullets, 4 with rubber bullets and 3 people have been hit with launcher canisters. 11 have minor injuries.

there are kids in this group who were arrested more than 24 hours ago now. we need to make noise guys, they cannot be punished for the crimes of politicians! some of them have even fainted because they haven’t eaten since yesterday!
We are still here at the Milimani Law Courts waiting for the Ruling on the custodial application by the DPP. Despite having more than the 185 peaceful protesters in custody for more than 24 hours, the ODPP seeks to have them detained for 21 more days. Ruling at 8.30 pm
on citizen tv the nakuru religious leaders are saying that youth were peaceful during previous protests, but yesterday it is clear that gangs were introduced by government to create chaos. even the church has left this man. GOOD!
it is just wild how much we let white diplomats and “expats” take up so much space in africa, such that they can be so comfortable being so explicitly racist because they know they’ll be protected and defended.
since we’re revising history and erasing entire movements and people, i would like to announce that i am the only person in the global south that ended colonialism.
in 1962, i looked sir evelyn baring in the eye and said “ENOUGH!” and colonizers all over africa left immediately
it’s actually so crazy to try to criminalize people talking about the weather just because the president can’t admit that he was wrong. like grow up, seriously.
From the Meteorological Bill 2023:
"A person who issues to the public meteorological data collected, or weather information derived from a weather station not registered by the Authority commits an offence & shall, on conviction, be liable to a fine not exceeding KES 1M or to
i think feminist political analysis on here will be more constructive once we acknowledge that hegemonies are sustained in very many different ways and that includes weaponization of representation politics & women empowerment.
The deployment of the military is the biggest evidence of the desperation. He’s so eager to intimidate, that it has exposed him. You have removed the military from the barracks to deal with tweets and unarmed protesters?
King Charles is due in Kenya on Tuesday for a four-day visit. During the colonial era, more than 10,000 were killed in Britain's campaign against the independence movement, with 1,000 hanged after summary trials. Activists seek apologies for past abuses.
this is amnesia fr bc i distinctly remember us hating that man throughout his administration, especially his second term. a huge reason why people could not fathom voting for raila was because of his alliance with him.
i wish that people were more invested in our collective liberation rather than clinging to whatever little power they have to be oppressors, but here we are.

idk how people can see stuff like this and the jumuiya at statehouse today and then act like people that fearing an impending enforcement of christian fundamentalism are being alarmist.
The Blowing of the Shofar witnessed at Kasarani today; In biblical times, the shofar proclaimed the anointing of a New King. It was blown by the Israel delegation in honor of a leader choosen by God
representation is not an indicator of radical politics. it only requires ppl from marginalized groups to assimilate into oppressive institutions with the aim of sanitizing their violence & giving the illusion of progress, without abolishing the institution’s oppressive functions.
it isn’t uncommon for writers to draw inspiration from historical events, but my irritation with the handmaid’s tale and it’s popularity as a cautionary tale is that white feminists create this narrative that presents the events that take place in the story as 100% fictionalized.
but really the way that the media and civil society talk about the youth in kenya is very reductive and binary. it’s either we are inherently progressive or immature and lack direction.
they just tack on whatever characterization suits their narrative at any particular time.
(let me start by saying that this thread is not a drag to OP or mwalimu, just a general rant on white feminism and reproductive justice that has come to my mind based on this)
Mind you this statement is being made in the same week that a court has given a priest a reduced sentence after he violated a child so that he can “educate” ppl on the Sexual Offense Act”. The threat to the social fabric is in the call that is coming from inside the house.
Catholic diocese of Murang'a Bishop James Maria Wainaina has condemned the entrenchment of LGBTQ advocacy groups saying the LGBTQ threat is real and is capable of breaking down the family unit and the entire social fabric.
Bruh they need to appease the white masters so they can keep getting eurobond bailouts, loans, free mosquito nets and food during drought. Their stance is from a poverty point of view.
all of the things that we fear this rolling back of abortion rights could do are things that the white supremacist ruling class have done previously to accumulate and preserve wealth and power at the expense of colonized people.
everyone: “we’re dying of hunger we don’t have access to food”
tech bros: “what if we created technology that collected data on the level of emptiness in your stomach and analyzed this data to curate a list of meal prep recipe apps that are sent directly to your phone?”

i don’t know who in their right mind would expect people in former british colonies to mourn anybody in that family, or stay silent because people are crying, knowing the level of violence that that white supremacist empire has subjected us to. it must be madness.
Black and brown people around the world who were subject to horrendous cruelties and economic deprivation under British colonialism are allowed to have feelings about Queen Elizabeth.
After all, they were her "subjects" too.
in women, race and class, angela davis talks about how black women’s value to slave owners was dependent on their reproductive capacity as ‘breeders’ with no parental rights. their duty was to bear as many children as possible as often as possible.
this man needs to be removed from this position, QUICKLY (i know jubilee won’t because they don’t care) but he is so dangerous to kids in this country, like the damage he is going to cause will be insurmountable.
it must be so nice to be so stupid that you allegedly read the works of revolutionaries like james baldwin and malcom x and what you take from it is that your engagement with that work gives you license to dehumanize black people.
the threats to abortion rights are not dystopian. they are a part of continued organized efforts by capitalists and white supremacists to exploit the labor and reproductive capacity of birthing people and destroy rights to self determination, in their efforts to augment fascism.
if you destroy sectors like education, health and manufacturing. how do you expect for people to get jobs?
and your solution is to send them to be domestic workers in countries with track records of anti-blackness + human rights violations against african workers. you’re a fool
things like marriage, motherhood and pregnancy which excluded white women from the public labor force, did not exempt black women from experiencing forced labor or physical and sexual violence. their bodies were exploited to produce slaves & capital for the slaveholding class.
before you pathologize black Kenyan’s relation to internalized white supremacy in this country, please explain to the class the role that your community has played in sustaining the social stratification that is necessary to operationalize anti-blackness in the first place?
She said she had never been to an African country where people were trying so hard to be white/British, where they treat their own people badly to impress white people. I have seen this in Nairobi and at the coast. It is shameful. That is why so many news anchors have fake
they misrepresent issues like threats to bodily autonomy as emerging issues that are borne of nothing else but misogyny. this obscures so many of the other lenses that we need to understand reproductive justice and create strategies that respond to these threats constructively.
Let it also sink in that Kenyans are crowdfunding to settle the medical and burial costs of the people that the state has murdered. He’s posting about moving the country forward, when he has not done a single thing to repair the harm caused.

Hello guys. I’m kindly requesting for this. If someone is injured from the protest and is at any hospital across the country, please send the invoices, the hospital bank account details and the documents showing the details of the injuries to my WhatsApp 0769518054. All three
My friend Yoeal Haille is missing. Last heard from 3pm jana. He was protesting at the World Bank. Was arrested and released at 3pm. At 7pm an almost copy pasted message went to his gf. He didn't come home that day. Phone seems off. WhatsApp single tick. If you’ve seen him, hola!
Imagine killing us here and also going to go kill people overseas in a conflict that had nothing to with us in the first place, for a government that’s scamming you? It’s the commitment to clownery for me.
Kenyan police officers heading to Haiti were promised Ksh 100,000 as departure amount but will only receive Ksh 20,000, sparking complaints and internal squabbles.
The mission's launch was kept secret, with no media invited.
that was the reality for a lot of classed white women at the time. but while classed white women were fighting for their recognition as more than just wives or mothers, black women were not even considered humans, let alone women.
why are some of you saying not occupying statehouse = subduing the momentum of the movement. why does it have to be statehouse? people are giving so many other different opinions e.g vigil in CBD, vigil at uhuru part, vigil at parliament, blood drive for injured folks.
You see how this narrative has already started being weaponized to make young people seem ignorant, immature and impatient?
Y’all should be pushing back against these narratives because they will be used to manufacture consent for state violence or to subdue the movement.
but when we continue to peddle this lie that this oppression is novel and dystopian, then it makes it impossible for us to learn from the work that previous organizers & activists have done to challenge hegemonic power & try to adapt their strategies to our current circumstances.
Good. We need Kenya to work for Kenyans not tourists. He wants to destroy our country and then traffic us to work abroad. We don’t care if Nairobi is the most loved city in Africa by expats, when will Kenya be a country that we can live and thrive in and not survive?
#RutoMustGo
I know I will be bashed but I need to be truthful and accountable to the nation. I think the Ruto administration is overdoing religion. While we acknowledge the hand of God in bringing us this far, presidency must observe Article 27 of the constitution.
while this was happening to black women, classed white women had began organizing around feminism, basing their analysis of gendered oppression on how gender essentialism was weaponized to exploit their domestic labor and limit their inclusion in the public workforce.
this government’s response to everything is violence first before anything else. there’s a reason that kids are choosing to push back in such extreme ways. shouldn’t that indicate that there is something severely wrong with our education system?
the problem with movements like women empowerment in this region is that they position leadership as the primary solution to patriarchy. this promotes individualistic social mobility as an indicator of collective progress.
if systems in kenya work. why has a bill that was strongly opposed during public participation moved to the 3rd reading? why are there unconstitutional positions in govt right now? why did the prev govt roll out Huduma Namba despite court orders?

He has single-handedly achieved more than all the opposition parties combined!
when we examine reproductive justice alongside cisheteronormativity, capitalism, colonialism etc, we can see how the restrictions on human rights affecting (seemingly) different issues (e.g LGBTQ rights, abortion rights and labor rights) are connected.
during chattel slavery, black women’s rights to self determination (e.g having a name), their parental rights, ability to create and sustain family and communal ties were non existent or dependent on the benevolence of the slave owners.
LSK has stood with the people since the protests began, and the part of the reason people felt safe enough to show up last week is because they knew they had people fighting for them.
The abductions & detentions are designed to disrupt this. Let’s not allow them to win.
Vandalizing the Nairobi Expressway at Mlolongo was the most unfortunate thing. All properties destroyed in Kisumu, Eastleigh, Pipeline, Nyeri Nairobi CBD or Kibera will still cost us as a country.
Is it hard to protest without destroying anything?

the conditions are somewhat similar in the handmaid’s tale. when june is kidnapped and taken to gilead, her child is taken from her and given to another family, her name is changed to ‘Offred’ to signify commander waterford’s ownership of her.
what i find funny (and encouraging) about this space is that they thought the fear mongering they did about targeting people, and then actually detaining someone incommunicado would scare people into shutting up. but guys woke up and cursed them out for 11+ hrs. i’m screaming.
and so rather than identifying the tools necessary to abolish hegemonic power, we’re focusing on marking cis men as inherently and irredeemably oppressive, but also relying on their changed behavior to secure our rights.
The Kenya Police have arbitrarily arrested three people who were participating in an event aimed at standing in solidarity with Palestine. They have been taken to Muthangari Police Station.

@NPSOfficial_KE
to release them now!
This is really wild considering that during the protests earlier in the year when the police were targeting journalists, they were quick to call out the excessive use of force, and abuse of power.
KE media coverage of today's maandamano keeps referring to police on the streets as preserving law and order, and stopping those out to cause chaos. Yet to hear a single journalist describe the police presence as about preventing exercise of constitutionally-guaranteed rights.
the point here being that the fact that identity is not an indicator of people’s ethics should tell us that our responses to the restrictions on human rights should focus on
whomst is surprised? this was never about anything other than his own interests. this man has literally used this tactic since 2007. it’s always about negotiating power for himself.

this is disinformation! there is only one region in kenya with tasteless food (i will not name them but they know themselves) personally, sisi kama waluhya tunatumia spices.
Kenyans may have mostly bland food being the whitest food region of our continent, but we love them still. Even people who cook with only salt for seasoning deserve free, fair & non violent elections. We will talk about their food another day. Love to all Kenyans voting today ❤️!
