This is a really cool development, thanks to Dala´s EV Repair it's now possible to easily repurpose old Nissan LEAF battery packs as grid connected home storage using a normal solar PV hybrid inverter, and it's fully open-source! ⚡️👍

It's official, my air source heat pump has been installed for exactly 12 months! 1978kWh electricity consumed, 8359kWh of heat delivered, SCOP of 4.23 which results in half the running cost of my existing bottled propane combi boiler and 30% less than mains gas 👍

We've made it! 2300 miles in our electric camper van to Leonidio in southern Greece, it's beautiful here, and the climbing is fantastic! It was a nice smooth drive, no issues with charging 🏴🇬🇷⚡️🚐😀

Coldest day of the year today, -2.2C overnight and freezing most of the day, heat pump kept our house cosy 19C-21C during the day, 17C overnight, including hot water for 1x bath and 2x showers it used 17.6kW electricity which resulted in 60kWh of heat, COP=3.4 🧵

Upgraded my living room window glass from 14mm no argon to 24mm argon filled double glazed pane. Reused existing hardwood frame with new beading. Improved U-value from 3.3 to 1.2. Total cost £100. Insulation improvements don't have to be expensive

Exciting Friday night upgrading the firmware on my heatpump! The circulator pump now modualtes correctly via PWM, this has reduced its power consumption from about 65W to 15W during normal operation 😁

Couldn't resist taking a closer look at a 9kW air source heatpump heating a restaurant at 1400m in the Swiss Alps, seemed to be working well despite temperatures down to -10C today, it was warm inside the beer also passed the test 😀

Just replaced a PTC heater on our 2014 Nissan LEAF, it was quite a tricky job involving a lot of trim removal & many hours of contortions. I can see why Nissan charge approx £3000 for this job, I managed it for £250 using a 2nd hand part. So nice to have heating again 😀🔥

In 2011 we did 6 stops of 3+ hours each.
This time we went for a 9 stop strategy of around 30 minutes each to keep the battery in the fast part of the charge curve.

My village became a 20mph limit today, it's great, the street feels safer and it only takes seconds longer to drive through, well done / da iawn 🏴 👍
Most streets in residential and built-up areas, where people and vehicles mix, are now 20mph.

Changed our Nissan LEAF cabin air filter today, easy job once I knew where to look (thank you, YouTube!), didn't even need to undo any screws. Over 5yrs old and nearly 60k miles our 24kWh LEAF is still going strong with 100% of its battery capacity bars remaining 👍

Visited my parents today, the heat pump I installed is still working well, keeping the house nice and warm despite temperatures down to -4C, while averaging COP of 4.3, my dad has done a nice job re-building shelving in the airing cupboard around the new pipework

Very disappointing article with so many inaccuracies, it’s hard to know where to begin. For starters, independent research shows that heat pumps will work well in 90% of 🇬🇧 homes & BUS grant is now £7.5k. Claims that our geology somehow makes ASHP’s unsuitable for UK is laughable

This is what happens when a radiator is piped diagonally with the flow into the bottom, it doesn't work! Counterintuitive, (at least for me!) flow needs to go into the top, luckily it's easy to fix 🤦♂️

Totally agree, our heat pump works great in our solid stone house with uninsulated walls, insulation does not increase heat pump efficiency, but it will reduce energy required which is the same for any heat source, sizing emitters for low temp is key to efficiency

This winter I took part in

Outdoor temp dropped to 6.5C this afternoon, our ASHP had to run for a bit longer, but a flow T of 30C to radiators was sufficient to maintain our indoor T set point of 20.5C, 5kWh electric used today which resulted in 27kWh of heat with a COP of 4.8 👍
