Glad your family is safe but maybe consider pedestrians and cyclists too? Road deaths are off the charts in USA and the proliferation of needlessly big cars are a big part of the reason.

. When are the authorities going to wake up to the preventable killing of people on our streets. We need hard enforcement

- please. End car friendly policies please.
Should I be that guy on Twitter who points out that the government’s handing of money to people is not a traditionally successful counter inflationary policy?
With first counts now in in Cabra-Glasnevin, confirmation that Fine Gael has outpolled Sinn Féin in what is Mary Lou McDonald's home turf.
SF ran four candidates in the 7-seater, versus two for FG. Also two for FF (12.5%) and one Green (11.0%, the poll-topper Feljin Jose).
I agree with Maia. I suspect however those voicing opposition to it are the same people who objected to there being a cycle lane on the road outside the cemetery. Remember: It’s not about the cemetery - it’s about driving everywhere and anywhere.
People are understandably upset about the plans to put a cycle lane through Deansgrange Cemetery. I hope once they’ve had time to consider it, they’ll see it as a good thing. The dead don’t have to be kept away from the living. I think it’s a lovely idea. ❤️

I don’t share Prof Binchy’s views on most social matters but this was appalling by Senator Ruane. I’m not sure what she was trying to achieve.
@Feljin_J
Great news but they should be cheaper to hire for the cyclist than an annual car parking permit (probably best to significantly increase the price of car parking)
Fundamentally disagree. It will hurt you if you choose to use a car to access the city via Fairview. It will help massively if you use a bike or a bus to access the city.
New cycle way in Fairview is a complete farce and will have a negative impact on most northsiders as a main artery into the city will become even more of a bottleneck. Nobody dares say anything because a segment of the cycling lobby are some of the most abusive people online.
It’s really simple - park legally or use another method of travel. Cost of legal parking should be included in the so called “breaking of the bank”

This is an awful accident and I really hope the cyclist is ok but it's unlikely his helmet played any part in keeping his leg from being crushed. Bike helmets are not designed to keep cyclists safe in collisions with cement truck drivers (or even car drivers).

Residents forced to preserve access to driveway on match days. It’s a damning indictment of our approach to parking enforcement
@EoghanCole
I’m not sure why we “enjoy” it but perhaps it’s for similar reasons that footballers “enjoy” wearing football boots when playing football for sport but don’t wear boots while out and about of an evening.
@mjc0ughl4n
Economically yes but the Renua types would screw the concept from the get go. A socially liberal fiscally Conservative party is what we need but I’m not sure the PDs are the answer. Maybe we can have FG on bikes as a temporary solution.
@Edward__Burke
Ireland isn’t remote. The debacle of trying to hire a cyber security exec to head our national response for €80k was something to behold.

Lots of the scandis seem heavily regulated. A point to raise when people say they want to live in a Scandinavian style society. High taxes and it’s difficult to drink to forget them.

Ask them to do more Secretary. Germany squeezed Ireland, Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain for self inflicted debt in 2010. They need to send weapons and learn to cope with self inflicted energy shortages for the greater good.

To tax you for the emissions your car makes. It’s calculated by reference to your vehicle emissions. If you want one based on road use - per km travelled instead - I’m all for that.
This country has not seen as many evictions since the Famine. Across the country, thousands of private tenants are being evicted. Because landlords can evict on sale. Tenants have no right to a home. They have no home. This is not acceptable.
@saracen48
What’s the alternative Marty? Did you engage with the well signaled construction project Marty? You could take the bus Marty - it’s literally free for you as you’ve got the bus pass. Most people coming into Dublin don’t do so using their car so cars shouldn’t be the priority.
“Major Casualty”. It’s a pub Frank. It’s a pub. We can build another one near the station if you can’t find an appropriate drink in the 10 or so hostelries within 500m or so of the Brian Boru. Get a life

It’s because the President’s guest is using the trip as a distraction from his domestic party fuelled troubles!!! It’s called holding the government to account.
Hundreds of people turned out for a candle lit vigil at Deansgrange Cemetery to protest against plans to put a cycle route through the cemetery. Some people very upset by it. Will have more on

Due to significant queues inside the terminal for check-in, bag drop & security, passengers queueing outside the terminal may not make their flight & may need to contact their airline to rebook. We sincerely apologise for the obvious frustration and inconvenience this may cause.

They will be ignored by most and occasionally the Gardaí will police them and hand out fines. This is a fundamental waste of money and effort designed to placate ill informed objectors.
This is a brilliant article and I really dont know why the government is happy to pay 10s of millions of €, if not 100s, instead of pushing through the building of tall buildings all over the country including Dublin 1.

Supermarkets are to come under pressure from the Government to reduce grocery prices or face the possible use of consumer protection powers that allows for the setting of price caps

Genuinely horrified at the number of racists, terrorists and communists on my ballots in Cabra Glasnevin / Dublin Euro. Less than half of candidates got a preference. Usually vote most of the way down.

Rory hearne is a politician not a housing expert. Please stop platforming him as an ‘expert’. He has a clear political agenda. Evident since his days as SU President in TCD.
