Is that a bike that weighs a ton, has two extra wheels and uses a motor?
Park and public right of way enthusiast with accessibility in mind.
I type with Swype
A god damn police officer, tailgates, speeds and close passes me on my own street.
She lives in the same street, I ask her when she parks not to speed on the neighborhood and she responds with "I'm police, you should not be in the road, "
"Don't touch my car."
"Don't drive in the bike lane."
"I didn't drive in the bike lane."
"Yes, you did."
"Well, you had plenty of space."
"Stay out of the bike lane, and no one will touch your car."
That's not a parking spot. It's colored differently to help your underdeveloped kindergarten logic centers understand how to behave while operating heavy machinery.
Here is a good example of how putting bike lanes above the curve protects people. Without that curb, the driver was more than happy to cut the corner and push me off the road. Instead they redirect into the travel lane after hitting the curb.
"why are the bike lanes empty?"
Biking is efficient and fast compared to the alternatives.
Why are the car lanes so full when one can travel more effectively and e-bikes allow for a user-determined level of effort.
I assume this is a
@SomervillePD
officer that lives in the same street as me as it's we have a residency requirement. It would be nice not to have my life threatened by the people sworn to protect and uphold the law in this city.
@JesseForWard4
It is kinda impressive to witness the logic that drivers will present and the hoops that they will jump through to allow themselves to believe that speeding is ok and it is illegal to be in their way and indirectly prevent them from breaking the law.
She gets back in her vehicle and speeds off while I get chewed out be literal neighbors chilling on their porch "approaching a single mother" and being told we live on "that kind of street".
Found in porter Square. With across a son to be opening business that has no street parking to begin with that already has a anti bike sign.
Who has these stickers, I want some!
I was told I was a punk and trying to start some liberal bs. This is despite being told they put their life in the line by driving anywhere and apparently could not relate.
@AmericanFietser
The bottom of that is going to be a mess of poorly attached accessories. Or it will frequently break down with the volume use and then no one can get their bike or park.
State engineers/planners believe that this bike lane is perfectly fine.
Majority of people think they paint is perfectly safe,
Majority of drivers think that paint is perfectly safe,
Those same drivers often don't even realize they ignore paint on the ground while driving.
This is so dangerous!
Not only is it completely blocking a protected bike lane, the gate is really hard to see until just before it impales you off your bike into traffic
I wonder which city org keeps hopping curbs to re-trench a freshly worked, freshly seeded area to drive over the mixed-use path so they can get to not a parking spot
@311Somerville
Malden's signs that say "put the brakes on / bus and bike lanes / keep Malden moving" are logically broken.
Using the brakes is counter productive to maintaining momentum.
On a more real note, why are they against their neighbors getting around outside a car?
I let the driver know that this was not a parking spot when they got out. They said they are just going to be a minute as they are picking up food from Boston burger company.
They were not just a minute, and they didn't even come back out with food.
I'm a fair bit offended by this sign.
1. There is no reason to call out cyclists over motorists. It could have said "you" or "everyone". The law around red lights and stop signs is currently the same for all road users.
Story today:
Me: *Rides up to Vermont plate large SUV blocking the protected bike lane entrance. Tap rear window trying to see if anyone is I it, I'm standing a foot outside of the cross walk*
Lady in yard: can I help you?
Me: yeah, can you move you vehicle, it's in the bike lane
Person getting out of their vehicle
Me: What are you doing?
Them: What does it look like I'm doing?
Me: Parking on the wrong side of the road, in the wrong direction, over a double yellow line, & in a bike lane.
Them: Stop being a pu$$y!
Me: There is literally parking right there
On my ride yesterday, I took notice of a few roads with signs that said "weight limit 2 ½ tons" and thought, I don't think anyone in a SUV thinks that is for them despite pushing and exceeding that limit.
I often hear people hold up Montreal as the prime Canadian example of what great bike infrastructure can look like, but we forget that Montreal is also one of the only places in Canada that ALSO prohibits right turns on red. 1/4
A big ol' "screw you" to
@MassDOT
for making me regret my route choice tonight. I tried to maximize safety without maximizing distance / going away out of my way.
Both sidewalks that lead / from Wellington
@MBTA
are just a trampled ice sheet from Tuesday's storm.
This is how adults leave their cars all day near a school and recreational skating rink in the North End. There is so much open parking along street plus both surface and building parking lots across the street.
@eliotk8school
@MassDCR
"You must be a cyclist! You ran the red light back there"
-my witty response after I caught up to a driver with an open window that blew a red light. They got PISSED!
So 2 weeks into a 4 weeks closure and there does not seem to be any visible progress. Why bother closing it without a days notice if no one is going to do work?
@MassDCR
@MikeConnollyMA
Why is this person allowed to drive. They seem to have no situational awareness and controlling a 2 ton vehicle that is able to exert that much force or more into any object in their path.
@MassDCR
Really?? do you even listen to the people who you perform your mission for?
This is such a let down. Both Saturday and Sunday should have been declared fort last weekend
I started to do a new thing recently. I occasionally pick up community trash on my rides and dispose of it. Lately my receptacles have been open windows of vehicles parked in bike lanes
Recent highlights include:
- random baggie of stinky weed
- we buy diabetic sign
Had to mute this.
If you need to add to your block/mute list, here is a great triggering post.
If it were my post most of those comments would be actively hidden by me
"We should force cyclists to get licenses and insurance!"
Tell me you don't understand the reason why we require people to have a license to drive and carry insurance without admitting to not knowing.
Also, If you don't know, AAA reported that 88% of 18-24yolds are licensed
The fact that USPS is consistently terrible at following the rules of the road, no matter where you are in the US, is some what impressive but really sad. Two way separated/protected bike lane in Charlotte. Idk what's up with the SUV.
My count from
@noisecapella
's log was 8 were for the delay, the rest were against the delay.
These people actually showed up to the meeting... and stayed to speak for hours; Yet councillors still voted for the delay.
The "sun in the eyes" excuse in a crash with a pedestrian should be reframed as "they made the choice to continue as they were but blind to what ever what in front of them"
What other qualified activity can you just choose to continue to do it irresponsibly with no consequences
Leave expensive property on the public right of way for extended periods of time for FREE. AND they expect convenience, availability, security, and privacy.
If I ask for some safety for my life and other lives that are not driving personal motor vehicles, I get called entitled.
7 drivers decided that they were actually operating a bike over the last hour.
Countless people driving while surfing through their phones. About half of the drivers who can't respect the white lines of the bike lane and drift.
One driver asking of I'm an under cover cop.
Sunday morning worship time. Perfect for parking a full size jeep with a purposefully menacing grill on the sidewalk. There is literally so much open parking around too.
These church goers appear to be a blight on the community.
" that's not a bike lane!" says the driver sitting at a red light on in an and mass ave.
"if you want to ride your bike, you gotta ride in the bike lane over there" and he points to the other side of the road where there is no bike lane.
Why is it my responsibility to find an alternative route from point a to point b so my life is not threatened by others for the simple reason of existing?
Every time on my bike.
