LK99 is a strange compound. Samples with 110K superconductivity, a strange 300x resistance drop close around 250K, no room temperature diamagnetism in this case. Most samples turn out to be semiconductors.

99.99%+ single qubit gates and 99.9% two-qubit gates! When two-qubit gates also get better than 99.99%, it will become practical to scale the surface code to thousands and then millions of qubits and run fault-tolerant algorithms like Shor and quantum simulations.

In this talk, from July of 2018, I talk about Dowling's Law — the double exponential scaling of the power ofnear term quantum computers. Hartmut Nevin mentioned this idea in his talk nine months later, and overnight it became Nevin's Law. I'm not bitter.

Biased noise is easier to error correct than depolarizing noise. Hence by engineering strongly biased qubits (more T1, less T2), fault-tolerant algorithms can be achieved with far less qubits. For example, only ~126k cat qubits could break ECC-256 in hours

Chen’s paper has a bug, independently discovered by Hongxun Weng and Thomas Vidick, that he doesn’t know how to fix. If I understand correctly, in its current form the paper doesn’t yield any improvement on prior algorithms.

An array of 100 x 100 cat qubits could break ECC-32 in a few minutes with Shor algorithm. Your laptop can do that as well. Glue 10 of those arrays together and suddenly ECC-256 (a.k.a #BITCOIN ) breaks in hours. This is the true asymptotic exponential speedup of FTQC.
