Confession: I only write in first person present tense. Yes, I’ve written a completed manuscript in past tense—and hated it—and rewrote it to present tense. The past already happened, the present is happenING! I LOVE the intimacy and immediacy.

PSA: When using Find/Replace in Word, remember it’ll change any word with that letter combination even if it’s in the middle of a completely different word where such a change would make no sense. You know, before you SEND SAMPLE PAGES TO AN AGENT.

Referrals exist so that patients can get advice, care, or a diagnosis from an EXPERT or SPECIALIST. That’s the whole point of referrals. This doctor is NOT an expert or specialist in ADHD and therefore should NOT EVER be arguing with a patient over a referral to said EXPERT.😡

I’ve been to college twice now and I experienced cliques in the small, pricey private college big time. I switched to the bigger state university and had a blast. Later in life I returned to that small private college for my choice in degree. Cliques again. Again! Yuck.

This is worth reading.💜 I had an agent many years ago. No edits, just subbed it. It did get 2 editors, but no marketing dept, so no-go to both. Agent didn’t even remember key chrters when emailing me. I read about other agents who were as invested as the author. I wanted that.

Make it believable by acting it out.👍🏻 Say the dialogue in that character’s voice right out loud. Be an actor *and* a director for that moment. Is that *really* what that character would say? Make it real for *that* character and you’ll have believable dialogue for sure.💯💖

Over 2 decades, I wrote my MG manuscript in 3rd person past tense, then 1st person past tense, and finally 1st person present tense. Imagine rewriting a story’s tense with 85,000-90,000 words 3 times. Why yes, I have lost my mind.

I write each chapter like an episode. When you watch your favorite action or fantasy series, there’s almost always a conclusion to that particular episode, but also the beginning of something else that leads you into the next episode. It looks like a hill with an upswing tail.😊
