a healthy relationship is one of the things that *can* fix you. being loved by someone makes it easier to love yourself. loving someone gives you purpose. this isnt controversial. if youre tempted to believe otherwise: what are you afraid of?.
dating a hot interesting girl won't fix u either. other people don't fix u, that's not how it works, sorry.

@sodiumPen @cheer_wine air fryers have different performance characteristics than toaster ovens. they're only the same kind of thing in the way a rolls royce and f1 car are the same kind of thing.

@HarryModN there's a link to a news article in the second post. twitter's algorithm doesnt like posts with links in them, so if you want people to see something, you keep the link in a reply.

@cheascake theyre smaller so less preheating, and good ones are designed so that the shape of the oven and the blower work together to get really good airflow, which can get better results than your typical full-size convection oven for things where you want some browning/crispiness.

@liz_love_lace all cops are bastards not bc only a bastard would be a cop, but bc the realities of being a cop make you a bastard. even in the best, most ethically self-aware possibility, being a cop means selling your soul for the greater good. and>really ~all cops adopt evil and call it good.

@realtimeai the police department did later put out a statement where they downplay their wrongdoing and emphasize that no court found they committed a crime (which i infer is because they settled with their victim so he wouldnt pursue it in the courts).

@nominalthoughts @s_daniszewski @growing_daniel @AlexGodofsky @sgodofsk The going rate for even entry level software jobs at large companies in northern Virginia is about 100k, so he definitely is.

@YitziKornbluth oh i see what you mean. i think there are some public details related to the settlement bc it was paid using public monies. one source i saw said there were four officers and one is now retired (not bc of this). i think youd need a law database or to call the courts clerk.

@norvid_studies this is just the first time researchers have noticed. the fact that we observe it in the process of happening is profoundly strong evidence against the hypothesis that it's a once-in-a-billion-years event.

@justalexoki thats bc they let kids who dont know what theyre doing dink around in the web Inspector but we get upset if they try fiddling with someones pancreas.

my most reactionary take is that our institutions are coasting off momentum from the cultural norms of the old aristocracy — and yes: religious faith. they creak under the weight of their age, yes. but if we burned it all down what eventually rose from the ashes would be worse.
everything is like this, it's bad, it could be way worse, and we dont know how to do better at scale.

@lillybilly299 when youre a kid you can be blind to how much there is you dont know, and not be bothered by it too much. kids are just *used* to only sorta knowing whats going on. thats just how everything is when youre a kid.

@RiverTamYDN the way this should work is the insurer remains liable for the bill but refuses to pay, and defends a lawsuit if necessary. not that the patient ends up liable whenever a provider serves an outrageous bill.

what happens in peoples minds when they first start thinking of other people as vermin. thats barrier i think youd notice crossing. our culture floods us with warnings of what happens when you do.
"Homeless" isn't a state of affairs; It's practically a separate breed of person and you have no chance of "becoming homeless" any more than you would become an NBA player.

i dont want to shame anyone here, but guys: peak woke was late 2017 / early 2018, with a last gasp in mid 2020 just because of covid. what happened in the time since is that the anti-woke coalition grew increasingly more organized as it got absorbed into the right.
i feel like i got friendly with the anti-woke coalition over the past few years, but now it feels like they're walking off a plank into extremism and i feel frustrated about it. Being anti a bad thing doesn't make you right by default; righteous revenge is not compassion.

@NLRG_it GPS would last a long time, probably for a lone survivor's entire lifetime, excepting a geostationary kessler syndrome, which i dont think is very likely. the electrical grid would become unstable within a day or so, or at most a week, bringing everything else down too.

@headfallsoff while i was going to schools that started at 7:25, across multiple states, there were at least two times that some folks organized an effort to change that. and both time it failed due to being supposedly unpopular with students and parents.

I’m studying for the LSATs. Yes, I’m 40 years old and trying to start a new career. I’ve learned that my Chemistry brain needs to make a major transition to reading comprehension. Is this question easy or difficult to you?

@eigenrobot The book won't pose a danger to a mere initiate, because their mind doesn't yet have the structures to host the demon. A sage, too, is safe, for their mind can notice the demon and trap it. It is the adept who must not read the book.

@robertskmiles contracts that require a party to commit a crime are not legal and not binding. if the government compels you to testify as a witness against someone other than yourself (or your spouse, usually), it's a crime to refuse, so an NDA does not bind you.

@Aella_Girl i dont think the claim is meant to be that it's about *acquiring* power. it's that it's about asserting power.

i am begging — pleading — you people: when assessing someones character, dont restrict yourself to rigorous logical analysis of their words. consider what they said and what states of mind would mostly likely lead someone to say that
@adrusi There are people who are like that, and the OP may have been like that on other occasions, but I feel like if this specific take sees homeless people as subhuman, then it must see NBA players as superhuman, which is unlikely.

this is kinda my Area; i guess i should comment. 1. if you define sex by reproductive criteria, a human has no defined sex at conception.2. this doesnt matter for the law because lawyers will just infer gamete type teleologically.3. biological science does not admit of teleology.
Under Trump's executive order, every single person in America is now legally classified as female. All embryos begin by developing female sex organs, with male sex organs only replacing them at around 6 weeks of gestation.

@alicemazzy @Strife212 i mean if we supposed civilization just sucked for the first 10000–12000 years (plausible) then the limiting factor would be the coincidence of necessity and feasibility, not intelligence or cunning.

@bengrossbg when youre working in the naturals you usually wanna say 0^0=1 but when youre working in the reals you usually wanna listen to the limits of whatever process is getting you to 0^0, which sometimes means it's undefined.
