I would add that a key part of rote memorization is the connection with physical muscle memory. You need to be writing the words down with your hand and a pen. The physical action creates neural connections in your brain that assist you to retrieve the knowledge again later.

When I use the word 'won' I'm not wanting to imply that there is some sort of constant competition that he should be waging to 'stay in control' or whatever. But there is clearly a power dynamic here, and he's on the wrong end of it. Functionally, his marriage is over.

What actually happens is that counsellors will try to "fairly apportion blame" and they end up validating the abusive accusations/blame of the Cluster B half of the couple. Essentially, the husband is a victim. The process of this type of counselling *re-victimizes* him.
