What does it mean to be an affirming teacher w a trans student? It means calling them by their preferred name & pronouns. I don’t counsel on their medical or mental health or advise kids to hide info; I just teach them as they are, w kindness and dignity. And it SAVES LIVES.
This is the most draconian legislation ever introduced in Canada. It is a full on attack against trans and 2SLGBTQ+ communities. It is not only immoral, it is illegal.
There is no evidence or research to support any of these recommendations. This is ideological warfare.

After getting anaesthetic, I called off a dental biopsy bc of an intense feeling that I was going to die. Saw myself from above & had horrible feeling about dentist. I left in an ambulance and was ok, but found out 2 *dental* patients had died and he’d been disciplined already.

Unless the teacher is doing this to the exclusion of every other teaching method out there, the parent should be deprived of caffeine and sentenced to before-school supervision until March. Being a teacher right now is an act of HOPE and this meanness snuffs that out.

Can you have CPTSD if you grew up in a really good home? $, good student, holidays? I had everything but my parents yelled a lot. My sister was abused for years by a neighbour (found out as an adult). My dad drank lots on wknds…. But nothing “major”?

My toddler came in and saw and said YUCK! And her Dad, my husband, so sweetly said how that response can be hurtful, and we never “yuck” someone else’s body or bodily functions. ❤️

Out of touch? When I was a skeptical MFM patient, Dr. Cooper went to the trouble of finding additional articles in medical journals for me to pick up so we could discuss concerns thoroughly next time. NEVER pushy. She is the most in-touch physician I’ve met.

I can’t remember if you’ve mentioned ADHD for yourself? For me, I struggle hard w blocks bc I’m afraid to let myself focus knowing I have to snap out asap. Grading wouldn’t work for me. As a S short silent reading was hard. I love the calm part. I learn so much from you. 🙏🏼

I love your posts, but I must say, it absolutely IS your lane. I teach hs too and for a million reasons, there are kids who can’t read. My district insisted on spending thousands on F&P crap that I fought against loudly, knowing it didn’t work. It’s not a diff of opinion!

Speaking and discussing is an outcome in 10-12 ELA, so I assess it in one assignment where students know it’s coming and we practice developing ?S and responding to others. Attentive listening is in same assn. I agree, not all ppl need to be extroverts.

I keep worrying about inequity, that kids at daycare with mine will wonder why they receive less. I try to mitigate this by not giving wildly expensive presents from us or Santa, and by donating to the families in need, but my heart still worries.
