@BrainLeakage03 The Navy and Machinists Mates in special detail. I was assigned "Boarding and Salvage". A 140lb. kid given a steel pot, a Thompson with a bandolier of mags, and a 120lb box of plugging a patching gear. I'm glad your dad didn't need to play this game.

@schmmelcke The Principal and Assistant to the Principal in my Ohio high school carried a snub-nosed .38 and Government Colt .45ACP back in the 1960s. Other teachers did as well. We students knew it. Arguably it makes more sense in current days. Expert with a 9mm could neutralize threats.

@johnkonrad It was really tough at times pulling into port with 18 tugs lashed to us pulling in the opposite direction to slow us enough to tie up to the pier, the props spinning wildly at full power. That damn reactor - couldn't turn it off until refueling time in 25 years.

@NavyLookout The CMC should have been charged under Art. 110, "Hazarding a Vessel", and others "in the know" as well. But, of course, she wasn't.

@GrandpaHarris65 Meth cookers are likely the only folks purchasing that much Sudafed at one time. 500 rounds of 5.56 is an afternoon's worth of recreational shooting. Next slide:.

@ninaturner Who bombed a hospital and where? The last hospital hit was with a weapon fired from a few kilometers away that fell early due from its intended course due to a failure. I'd look for the rocket scientists that launched that rocket that failed.

@DorlandRon In the Rittenhouse example, exactly who was "unarmed"? Note that the term "armed" includes more than firearms.

@xbradtc @schmmelcke Some folks, it seems, use name calling and/or attempts to belittle when they no longer are able to form a logical argument or even an argument related to the topic at hand.

@John_A_Ridge In earlier times, communication off ship was limited to infrequent mail from home. Concentration was on the ship and its mission regardless of how boring/tedious it may have been. "Victory At Sea" was run on the ship's TV channel. EMCON was real and still should be.

@antherricheen @SteveInmanUIC He stopped shooting when the perpetrator stopped moving. If he's moving he's a threat.

@the_transit_guy This video appears to have been taken on a Sunday morning somewhere. The lot appears to be fairly well maintained. It is likely pretty full of "park 'n ride" vehicles during a work week. Makes sense.

@HankVenture5 A Speedy!!!! Here's mine from 1974, purchased for $125 on the ship from a guy who needed beer money. Wore it for 18 years. Didn't know what it was worth until having it serviced by Omega in Switzerland. I know now.

@the_transit_guy It has already been pointed out by others familiar with this exact stretch of roadway that a sidewalk exists on the other side. Find a different "outrage" video.

@ACLUIndiana Gender is affirmed in the womb and usually can be determined by ultrasound. Attempting to pretend a change after birth is a mental disorder wrt DSM5 "Gender Dysphoria Disorder".

@pushtheneedle I am unsure of why "denser" housing in the old Soviet-style is believed to be a preferred "solution" of some sort. It is rather a reset back to the Cabrini-Green and Pruitt-Igoe days which did not work out well.

@monitoringbias Pretty routine in Western Ohio schools I attended in the '50s-'60s. "Let me hold yo quarter" was the typical lunch money shake-down when confronted by a group of 4 or 5 young Black scholars on the way into the school in the morning.

@Cielofuego @SDNYnews @davidgura Perhaps nothing could be found to hold him "accountable" for. A lot of investigating, a lot of chest puffing, and loads of hot air didn't reveal anything requiring accountability.

@CarsRuinedCity European countries are railway-centered and have been for a hundred years. Passenger rail in the US dried up in the 1950s, 65+ years ago as the US population moved toward other modes of travel.

@JoanneRossi19 @ElissaSlotkin It was likely the aspiring rocket scientist holding that weapon was the problem. An inanimate object lacks the ability to spontaneously animate to perform acts.

@vostokposter I was in every one of those photos; down on the 5th Deck (17' Level), Frame 92.5, Port side, sitting on the "Stump" with a Camel in one hand and my coffee cup in the other directing #2 Plant operations. 7 deployments between '74 and '92.

@Freedom_Meme @OrdnancePackard The traveler is paying his own freight with air travel on a profitable airline. The traveler is using other people's money to subsidize passenger rail travel on an unprofitable rail system. It may cost a bit more but non-player characters aren't shelling out for it.

@reluctant_DMD @__ZeeS__ @rob4lsu_1959 @jashanno @TheAmishDude @socialiststeve6 @redpocketaces I just ran the student loan calculator for $70k at 8% for 25 years. They underpaid the monthly payments by $40/month. Shame on them for not taking care of their obligations.

@salisbot Hot tip: Always order 110% of the ice cream (or other sweet treat) desired by the ship. B&M Berthing was just a few feet from the base of the ladder - one of my guys in the working party ensured that some of thatwhatever got passed down there during the UNREP. .

@MyNameIsRickyM This is pretty weak. Not a single seawater soaked 2-1/2" shredded firehose shillelagh to be seen. No bloody knees and hands from crawling over ferrox deck coating. I weep for the current crop of pollywogs. .

@AnimarchyYT The Tierrasanta community in San Diego was built on a WWII firing range northwest of downtown. In the 1980s, two kids found an old artillery round poking out of the dirt near their homes. They chucked rocks at it until it killed them.

@OrdnancePackard Ohio boy here, remembering the days of passenger rail in Ohio. Why, yes! There will be tens of people taking the train weekly between Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, Cleveland, the dead city of Akron! TENS of people, I tell 'y!!! The fare box will easily support this!!!.

@NavalInstitute I've seen the Blues several times over the years. With F-4s at Stead in '70; with Scooters several times; with F-18s from my backyard in Murphy Canyon Housing. The Scooters put on the best shows by far and this video is one of my all-time favorites.

@mercoglianos @DeptofDefense @USNavy The Navy was performing underway replenishment with larger missiles (Talos, SM-1ER, -2ER) 40 to 50 years ago. A great deal of money was spent to do it. And now we don't know how. .

@EvolutionDevin @elonmusk Pretty weak. I'd regularly drive from Blackfoot, Idaho to Springfield, Ohio twice a year alone with only an AM radio to keep me company and no cruise control in a '66 Corvair, or a '71 El Camino, or a '72 VW van. Piker. .

@baldguyinit @eyeslasho My own data point here - Stable families and their children that I personally knew well fell apart in the years after LBJ's programs were instituted as a result of those programs. Some of these programs gave "permission" to stop striving for self betterment.

@johnkonrad I'm an old anchor windlass operator from USS Kawishiwi. As that chain payed out I was watching the shot marks CLOSELY, believe me. It was also a way to paint my dress white uniform a nice flecked brown color as that chain slid by. .

@CombatCavScout I've been on several deployments over a 21 year period and there were several senior enlisted that I thought, "Crap, I wish that useless skin bag had been left back on the beach.". From the commentary of Walz' former commander, he fit that bill easily.

@DeaconBlues0 Earth's climate has always been changing since formation of the planet. To believe that puny humans are able to alter the naturally occurring process is ludicrous. The continued warming from the recent Wisconsin Glacial Period is part of that process.

@cdrsalamander "the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki" are squared with my beliefs. My father was rotated from the Aleutians and being re-trained to invade Kyushu in November of '45. Without those weapons I likely would never have existed.

@BestCoastBrian He's moving at maybe 300 knots max, far below supersonic (around 667 knots at sea level). The "cone" is atmospheric moisture condensing out of the humid air due to the change in air pressure from the moving aircraft.

@Freedom_Meme @OrdnancePackard A) There is no evidence that HSR will be profitable in the US. Airports are not "rolling stock" but infrastructure. Aircraft "rolling stock" is operated/maintained/funded by airlines. HSR fare box revenue cannot do this. B) Agreed. Immaterial in this conversation.
