@hollhideaway My mom rented the 1978 cartoon adaptation of it for me as a kid from the library, thinking it would be like a Disney move. It was more like Apocalpyse Now for kids. I still have PTSD from it.

Question for #WritingCommunity , I wrote a dark comedy (almost #AmQuerying ), but am confused by novel genres. There’s obv. ones like horror & romance, etc. but EVERYTHING else is lumped into Literary Fiction. Is it better to use that or a sub-genre like Humorous Fiction or Satire?

Next up, The Red-Headed Pilgrim, by @kevinrmaloney , which was one of the funniest books I read this year thanks to its unique tempo of wry humor and deadpan dialogue, but it was this haunting line that particularly stuck with me.

@Lons That's my favorite James Gray film. It reminds me of Master and Commander in the sense that's it's an old school Hollywood epic that never really found it's audience. At least M&C has a bit of a cult following now, would be great to see Z eventually find the same footing.

@JohnWoods333 As you noted, TV takes its cues from 70s film, exploring nuanced human behavior above all else & I love that. A shame, it sounds like pubs are more fixated on what sells best at the airport/throwaway vacation reads? Those books end up forgotten in gas station bins in a few years.

To add, there’s also a comedy genre, but it has heavy crossover w/memoirs like David Sedaris. Just seems strange to me that the industry categorizes a select few fiction genres and then goes super broad with everything else, but I’m a n00b. #writersoftwitter #AskAuthor #AskAgent

@pastfuturebrett Second largest downtown population outside of midtown Manhattan, amazing food scene, museums, arts,. Named most walkable US city, fun to just get out and explore by foot, also plenty of parks and places to bike around. It’s a fantastic city with a unique vibe.

@BuonocoreMars I think that voice is a key motivator, it’s a hard pill to swallow when writing a first draft that what you’re writing isn’t incredible and will require lots of revision. The fantasy that it’s perfect keeps you afloat so that you can come back to earth and then get it right.

#TheHoldovers feels like it channeled the soul of Hal Ashby. It's that rare heartfelt Xmas film that earns every beat and doesn't try to circumvent the melancholy underneath. Adding it to my alt-vibe Xmas flick list along with Bad Santa, In Bruges, Carol and Riders of Justice.

@RPMirabella Agreed. It's a dominatrix with acid blood, a head within a head, steel teeth and motorcycle parts for a body inspired by a Giger painting. It makes no sense and that's what always made it so terrifying. Trying to backfill it w/a forced origin makes it corny and lame.
