Yep. Fortunately, I think the two biggest “problems” when it came to identity are gone in Hader and Soto. When all you are worried about is your free agency it takes away from a team mentality and the desire to do what it takes to win above all else.

Is this serious? If it is it represents everything that is wrong with youth sports and when my kid decided to quit is was totally supportive of that decision. Kids are not professional athletes. Full stop. Don’t treat them like they are.

I’m not a huge Preller guy, but this is why you develop shortstops. They legitimately are the best athletes on the field and many of them can play exceptionally well anywhere. Merrill is going to be a great addition this year and it cost the team nothing.

I would be SO disappointed in this team if they signed Soto and then couldn’t go get championship caliber pitching because of budget constraints. They need guys like Snell, Nola, Montgomery, etc… Pitching is the single most important piece and you can’t go cheap and still win.

Why? We actually went to the NLCS with Profar and Azocar (and Grish). The team has 3 of the top 15 highest paid players in all of MLB. Not many teams can claim that. The Padres will be fine if they can work out a decent pitching staff.
