When Harry buys himself and Ron the entire sweet trolley on the hogwarts express it's meant to show his charitable nature, but he just used his wealth to cornerstone the resources for himself and his friend leaving the other kids on the train with nothing, bourgeois little prick
Remembering the time I was at a party in England and a posh girl was like "When I say UK I mean England bc who gives a fuck about the other places". She then clocked I was Scottish and said the worst possible thing you can say in that situation: "Apart from Edinburgh, obviously!"
Very much looking forward to being able to use the line "I haven't felt this sexually conflicted since they cast Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher in The Crown".
I feel the same way about polyamory as I do about Rick and Morty: love the concept, sometimes question the execution, and 85% of the fans need to stay the fuck away from me.
Let's face it, Pride is special because of the class solidarity element. There's loads of (great) media out there about queer liberation but Pride's explicit message of solidarity with people outside the queer community is 1) what was great and 2) what we should aim for
Thinking about an interview I read about Derry Girls where it was floated if they should give Michelle a sad backstory to explain why she is as she is and Lisa McGee was like "Nope, she's just a bit of a dick" and I strongly respect that
Am I the only person who whenever Assange's name is mentioned the first thing I remember is those rape accusations that he never stood trial for and were eventually dropped in 2019 only because so much time had passed since the alleged incidents?
One if the weirdest cultural headfucks is the insistence in a lot of written media the Double Ds are like huge bazongas when they are just like. Average size.
I have to break my silence. Double Ds aren't even that big and I'm tired of pretending they are. If you can buy your bra from a normal store you aren't in my community
This is why I won't shut up about class in any context.
The effects of being in poor, or even being OK income wise but not having savings etc to fall back on isn't just minor inconvenience. It is a life expectancy difference of 20-30 years
She got found fit for work, my mum.
Dragged herself there 2 days a week.
Slept the rest.
Dead within the year.
She became one of the statistics.
Her name was Mary Davies.
And my god did we try.

An already v boring date with a man with 0 chat. He asks if I have siblings, I say I did but my sister died.
Him: oh.
Me: yeah I'm never sure how to answer that because I don't want to lie, but it is awkward.
Him: you could say you don't have a sister, because you don't anymore.
Been thinking about this a lot
As TERFs in Britain pour energy into stopping trans women accessing female electoral lists, trans women in Ireland have been fighting for pregnant people's rights to bodily autonomy.
Trans women have done more for our rights than terfs. Fuck you.

If they can't afford both mortgages maybe don't try to buy two houses? Maybe let someone else buy the house for themselves rather than trying to get other people to pay your mortgage for you.
Worth mentioning that I've met Labour campaigners in Scotland and in England who speak about the SNP with an unbridled violent rage and fury that I've never seen them direct at the tories. It's very odd.
“we support an immediate ceasefire but only if we’re the ones calling for it not the SNP because we don’t like them” is an absolutely insane position for labour to have manoeuvred themselves into
@AITA_reddit
Also comments with people being like "wHy DiD hE JumP oUT THe WindOW" idk he probably panicked at unexpectedly being confronted by a person who really hurt him in what was meant to be a safe family gathering and didn't know how to deal with it do u guys just not do empathy or
Worth saying Kenmure street wasn't even a protest, it was a preventative action. It's not like it could have been postponed when the choice was literally saving someone's life, or not.
I ask again, can we take a moment and appreciate how absolutely mental it is that this person has ever been given as much social and political power as she is - regardless of her politics? Like she literally just wrote some books this is unhinged.
@AITA_reddit
People who comment on these th
are obviously so in touch with their emotions and never have an unhealthy or problematic relationship with their own feelings ever. Like the guy was cheated on and his family are pressuring him but the Big Focus is on him feeling emasculated, lol ok
Lots of high profile leftists as well as people I personally knew said the women were definitely lying and it was a set up, and George Galloway famously said even if they weren't lying having sex with a sleeping person isn't rape, and now he's an MP so this is all really cool.
Honestly think a turning point in my personal development was when I swore to myself never to take the overnight megabus to London again, because I love myself and I am worth the train.
Idk man if you're looking at the latest "edgy" Netflix specials and lamenting the state of British comedy then the answer is to go to comedy clubs and support some of the literally 1000s of genuinely interesting and really funny comics on the British scene.
Every so often I remember the Tory girl from Edinburgh I met during my first year at York uni, who casually in conversation used Glasgow's high immigrant population as a reason why Edinburgh was better and I've never so greatly hoped that someone would be bitten by a fox.
Tonight at the dinner table my grandad said cheerily "the great thing about being this old is everyone who was ever bad to me is now dead" merry Christmas everyone
@bananafitz
One of my friends was once like "i shouldn't make out with X tonight because he's a virgo and I'm a sagittarius and that's just a Bad Idea" and I was like "oh I thought it was because you're both in dire need of therapy and have really bad boundaries but I stand corrected?"
Btw anyone wanting to say what happened in Glasgow today was "performative" or "virtue signalling" can absolutely go and jump haha, that is literally in and of itself virtue signalling so maybe consider why you're more concerned with looking superior than actually taking action.
I listened to a series on the BBC last year called History of Delusions, where each episode they'd explore a delusion in the past and interview someone who'd experienced it in modern day. Every single person said they wouldn't have gotten out the delusion w/out social support.
i used to think i could never be inducted into a cult or fall for a scam. Then i was in a relationship where my reality was clouded, he convinced me i was insane and mentally ill, and that only he could save me. I realized that thinking i was immune was what made me the most
My straight guy pal told me that when he goes on a date with a girl he finds the brightest star in the sky and says "that's venus" which is a great move but I can't do it because if I tried that on a lesbian or bi girl she'd be like "what you talking about venus is over there??"
"Be gay, do crimes" says I, a person who doesn't have an iPlayer account because I don't have a TV licence, and I'm scared that if they catch me I will be put in prison.

Yeh if someone's your friend and you're Co producers and your roles are clearly delineated I think it's epistemically justified to assume they're going to credit you truthfully in your role
I think my understanding of gender was completely changed when a trans women said to me "you know, cis people are also forced into gender identities that they're not necessarily comfortable with". I really think people cling to gender roles as a comforting roadmap for identity.
Sometimes just think about how Edinburgh University has had and still has a department dedicated to the study of phychic abilities for the last 35 years
Tfw you're about to do your tip speech at the end of a v stressful tour but Prince William turns up and your entire group scatters to go and see him instead.
@annicmrn
Oh yeah this was always the thing like in the books they don't do anything but I did always question Robbie being super into a 14 y/o who by his own admission is too young.
Them: people ask you what you do for work so they can judge you
Me, hysterically weeping on the floor: no I promise I was just taking an interest in your life i swear to god please
I have an ex boyfriend who, every time he called me beautiful, he would clarify by saying "not conventionally, obviously"* and I think if I lived 1000 years I will never understand this mindset.
*this isn't fishing btw, if anything I like myself too much.
Got IDd at the club tonight and I didn't have mine with me so I was like "is ther any way I can prove to you I'm 31? I Uh... I pay into a pension?" and it fuckin worked.
The year is 53,784,944AD. The Sun is expanding and about to engulf the earth, killing every sign of life in the Solar System. The Telegraph has just published an article imagining how much worse this situation would be if Jeremy Corbyn had won the 2019 General Election.
Happened a couple of times in the last week so I cannot stress enough : if you want me to find you and you're in a car, telling me the breed of the car will not help, I never learned the breeds of cars and I probably won't.
Tonight a woman from Livingstone who looked like she'd been to space without a helmet said to me "tae look at ye ah thought yed be shite but ye wur hilarious"
Then she got barred from the pub for doing poppers in the toilets and trying to fight the bar staff.
Fringe is nice
Seen like 5 tiktoks about "questions I get asked about having an adopted child" and in 3 the punchline is she's talking about her husband (cos her husband is so useless he's basically a child she has to care for hahaha) and I am begging youse to just, marry people you like.
Ok ok I've got it. We tell Sheridan, Galloway and Salmond that they're invited for a TV debate. No audience/crew because of covid, just them and the cameras. The cameras aren't on, obviously. And then we just.
Yknow.
Leave them there.
"Replace the word 'uk' with 'black' and then you'll see how the sentence changes".
Yes, changing words in sentences does tend to change their meanings.
Wild how polyamorous people are always either some of the most genuinely nice, attentive and thoughtful people you'll ever meet or else the absolute fucking worst cunts imaginable and there's no in between.
Thinking about that insidious type of emotional control where a person claims that expressions of negative emotion are a cause of anxiety to them, but keep expanding the definition of what this means until literally just beibg sad or crying becomes implied as a form of abuse.
@misslily_d
Because my parents have cycled their entire lives and we never had a car when I was a child, so I never got dependent of having one. Now I walk or cycle everywhere, or if it's very far I get public transport. This has never been enough of an inconvenience to get a car.
@tungolwitga
Well this was the context she was describing smth that "looks like Britain but stretched out" and for clarity I asked if she meant Britain Britain or just England. If she'd said "sorry I should have just said England" I wouldn't have been bothered
"haw whit big man am the coronavirus and am gonnae battur you"
"eh naw ye willnea"
"eh aye ah wull"
"aw jings mammy daddy! Ah need tae get the bog roll cos ahv shat masel!"
Etc.
Was tryingto explain to my Canadian flatmate what it means when a Glaswegian says "Ya Belter" and he said "is it basically like 'shagadellic baby'?" and dammit, he's right.
Flatmate said "that lady's got cracking boobs" and I ran to the window to see because he is the kind of person who generally wouldn't comment on a strangers tits, but if he did it'd be because they were genuinely fucking remarkable. Anyway, turns out he said "Boots".
Always so fucking baffled when people paint working class people as inherently more racist and homophobic, as though middle class people aren't those things?
