AI has absolutely affected my job. I used to have multiple enquiries to work with & now I've had 0 new clients this year. I've officially moved to trying to make ends meet outside of freelance because publishers (especially the smaller ones I worked with) now just use AI.
I can echo this. 2020 sucked because of Covid, but 2019 and 2021 were probably two of my best years since I started working in film. 2022 took a big dip in the latter half, and 2023 has been worse than 2020, aka Covid. So yeah, I think AI has something to do with it.

Y'all need to realise that sending email portfolio drops to actual companies and getting your work seen by clients by sharing it on drops is ANOTHER way of getting your bills paid than JUST BEING POPULAR ON SOCIAL MEDIA. I am an absolute nobody here but I somehow pay my bills.

Just confirmed one of my most regular clients had switched over to using AI voiceover this year, hence why freelance work has been a lot slower this year. So that's proof that AI voiceover, art, music, etc. is harmful to freelancers and creatives. It's not paranoia, it's FACT.

For clarification - bcos apparently I need to say this - I dnt support stock image websites or Getty as a company 😑 & watever problematic things theyve done. I doubt theyre doin this for concern abt artists livelihood, but prob 2 cover their arses. But its a small win 4 us ✌️.

Monthly fees for software. Fees for brushes, textures etc, commercial costs for font packs (if design work. In my use case), the high end price for professional grade hardware. Digital artists have costs to cover too.

Just wondering how publishers repeatedly using AI covers - and bragging about giving 0 shits about it, no less - would feel about chat gpt using their books to generate written content and sell that? Seeing as it'd be "technically not illegal".

Yes, people should be paid more. And sniping at trades - which are as essential as doctors when it comes to infrastructure - is not the way to do it. You punch UP, not down, remember? It's not the plumbers affecting your pay, it's the people in parliament.

Yeah I've heard of him. And he's had to work YEARS at it. And run his business just as hard as anyone else, I've seen someone else sum it up better, "furry art isn't an untapped resource" especially for people who find it 'weird' or don't actually enjoy it.

Absolutely not even close. Artists post free art all th time for u to enjoy. Did u save up for you phone or buy a budget one? Or did you get one on a payment plan? Artists dnt have th luxury of being partnered w Financers, so we cnt offer payment plants in most cases. So save up.

I'm a small artist on social media. I raised my rates last year to a liveable wage and have had nothing but positive results from it. Better clients. Less stress. I also have terrible mental health issues that were WORSE because of the awful pay attracting awful clients.

It depends entirely what they want. My email has a link to my portfolio website in my signature & a few links (used to be Artstation but no more) They sometimes ask for loose jpegs, just a link, RARELY a compiled pdf. Individual companies usually have submission guidelines.

Your experience is exactly mine. Illprescribed medication led to tremors in my hands (worse now) I have severe pains in my wrists, and I huge carpal boss in my drawing hand, can't use traditional media anymore or my leatherworking which makes me really sad. I CAN draw digitally.

I use Wise (formerly known as Transferwise) which not only lets you have your OWN card, but also allows multiple currencies as well and essentially allows me to have a legit Bank Account in several countries. Also VERY LOW FEES.
