I just saw an AI user say that artists should have known better than to enter such an unstable profession. Totally ignoring that without artists their toy would not even exist.

What bothers me most about the AI art situation is just what a frivolous use technological expertise it is. There are so many tedious, grueling, and dangerous jobs that could have been eliminated. Instead they’re attempting to automate the most basic expressions of humanity.

"Democratization of Art" is a sinister phrase because it manufactures aggrievement. It tells people that artists are hoarding unearned power, and that our displacement through AI is morally justified.

A lot of non art people talk about how AI eliminates drudgery and allows us to "focus on being creative" As if they even know what that means. They don't understand that the process is where the creativity happens. It's in all the small choices you make along the way.
