Long 🧵: 1/8 This is an article that has conflated several issues. The medical standards (for all of Defence) haven’t been changed for inxs of 20 years. Medical provision has changed as has medical technology. It therefore makes sense (to me at least) to review the standards.
The Royal Navy is struggling to recruit and struggling to retain talent. PSL blog on why the RN may need reduce to an escort fleet of 8-12 ships due to crew shortages. Is it time to scrap medical standards to fix this?.

Anyone seeking to join the @RoyalNavy will no longer need to prove they can swim in what a source called a "desperate" relaxing of standards. But a spokesperson said standards aren't dropping because all recruits must still pass a swim test during training.
