Today, Italy did something wonderful. They published a beautiful stamp in honour of our late Queen. The first time, with the exception of former Popes, that Italy has done so for a non-Italian. Thank you, Italy, from your British friends, for this very touching gesture 🇬🇧🇮🇹🇬🇧🇮🇹
Today, 101 year old WW2 veteran Harry Shindler OBE, who landed at Anzio in 1944, became the last person to sign our condolence book before The Queen’s funeral. Harry lives 3 hours from Rome, so, thanks to our Defence Attache Col Matt Smith, the book travelled to him.
I love this statue of Churchill striding purposefully through Paris. When I pass it, as I often do, I pay a silent tribute to the great man - proud to represent the country he saved, in a country he loved; and reminded of his resolve in adversity

Just arrived at Bayeux. Wonderful to see the 🇬🇧 flying from the Cathedral’s spire on a windy morning here, as it always does on 6 June. Bayeux was the first major French town to be liberated after D-Day (on the morning of 7 June 1944)

80 years ago today, Rome was liberated, as Allied Forces entered the city. Today we at the 🇬🇧 Embassy paid tribute, standing on the exact spot where 80 yrs ago, young Italians welcomed British soldiers as they marched past our Embassy a few days later

It has been such an honour to serve for the last five years as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to France. As I leave the post this weekend, thank you and farewell...
Nearly a week after Her Late Majesty The Queen’s funeral, let me express my thanks to the Caribinieri for providing a fine honour guard at the 🇬🇧 Embassy Rome during the mourning period - and for their support, and that of the 🇮🇹 police, to the Embassy throughout. Grazie 🇬🇧🇮🇹

This is my well-thumbed copy of the Sino-British Joint Declaration on Hong Kong. Today 🇬🇧 made clear, as the Foreign Secretary put it, that ‘We will not look the other way on Hong Kong and we will not duck our historic responsibilities to its people.’
Daniel Cordier, secretary of the Resistance legend Jean Moulin, has died aged 100. I was so honoured to present him with an MBE on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen at his home in Cannes in July. Tonight 🇫🇷 honours Monsieur Cordier. So too does the United Kingdom 🇬🇧

1/2 So sad about the death of Paddy Ashdown - my former boss and my friend. We his close team in Bosnia adored working for him and learned so much from him. A Royal Marine to the last, every day he would come up with a new plan to take the next metaphorical hill...

24 years ago tonight since the handover of Hong Kong. Nearly a quarter of a century later, the freedoms that the people of Hong Kong were promised in the Sino-British Joint Declaration would last until 2047 are being crushed by the National Security Law
Yesterday, I met the ‘bambino del tram’. Now 92, as a 12 yr old Jewish boy, when the Nazis came to deport the Jews from the Rome ghetto on 16 October 1943, Emanuele Di Porto hid on a tram for 3 days, protected by the conductor and his colleagues, as the tram went round Rome…

74 years ago today, Auschwitz was liberated. My wife’s great uncle, Jacques, was deported to Auschwitz from Łódź, Poland, in 1944. Unlike other members of his family, he survived. He has always told us how important it is to remember. We will.
