With Trump's attack on immigrants we are stepping up by creating the Immigrant Safety Resistance Fund through my org @BluejayRising. With the money raised we will be able to send allies to training, which helps non-attorneys earn certification from the U.S. Department of Justice.

@arlenparsa Best case scenario, that’s child abuse. No legitimate, safe company in the country, compliant with fair labor law and paying real benefits, would hire an American without a social security number, to name just one issue. They’re just begging for their child to be exploited.

@EPM106 There’s only room for one insane, deeply problematic, old millionaire main character dude in a major sitcom. It helps that Danny DeVito doesn’t constantly act like he’s above above it all, and unlike Chevy Chase, you can tell he actually likes what he does.

West Virginia is the Union State, no matter how much our government hates that fact. That is why I am so PROUD to announce that the students of Marshall University are unionizing! The first meeting of the Marshall United Students’ Union will be this week! More details soon!.
The Great Railroad Strike (1877). The Great Coal Strike (1902). The Paint Creek–Cabin Creek Strike (1912). The Battle of Blair Mountain (1921). The Black Lung Strike (1969). The 1977–78 Miners’ Strike. The Pittston Coal Strike (1989–1990).

West Virginia, remember that insane rain on Friday? That was us getting hit by a fucking hurricane several hours from the ocean. We were spared the fate of Asheville by pure luck and a couple hundred miles. Climate change is not a myth or distant threat that doesn’t concern us.
Asheville is over 2,000 feet above sea level, and ~300 miles away from the nearest coastline. No place is safe from climate change. We all suffer the consequences. We must all take action. We are all in this together.

@ZZZZach89 Or how only four original Mayan books still exist because the Spanish burned fucking all of them. 3 of them are in Europe, 1 in Mexico City, none held by Mayans. Centuries of untold history, culture, and science burned by Diego de Landa. Only God knows how far that back humanity.

In the light of this tragedy is a good time to remind everyone that Jim Justice is an active danger to the lives of miners, whose companies owe 1/5 of all mine safety violation fines in the United States.
Very tragic news to report from Logan County. Unfortunately, we lost our fourth coal miner of the year this evening, Gary Chapman. When we lose a miner, it’s not just a loss for the community, but a loss for the entire State of West Virginia.

I hope West Virginia’s leaders who fought to protect the USPS sorting facility are willing to fight to protect the USPS. No groups would be hurt more by postal privatization than rural people and lower income, the demographics that define West Virginia.

In WV, the 2022 midterms had 43% turnout. The entire suite of extremist Republicans controlling 90% of the House of Delegates was chosen by the 27% of registered voters who voted GOP. In the primaries this year, voter turnout by county ranged from 18-44%. Vote. Fucking vote.

@KNLScurry06 @nikicaga The thing about freight trains is that they are also extremely capable of killing you. They should be shorter and better regulated, but freight trains will always invariably win if you get in their way. Don’t cross the fucking gates. Your life is worth more than 20 minutes.

Jim Justice is a fucking joke, an insult to the people he wants to vote for him. We’re one of the poorest states in the country, beset by countless crises he refuses to acknowledge. Whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican, you deserve a Senator who will do their fucking job.
I have been told by people in the @WVGovernor administration that @JimJusticeWV is telling those in his orbit that as a Senator he will not be in DC more than 14 days a month and has no plan to be on any committees. No Senate seat in the nation has had more influence over the.

@_fat_ugly_rat_ West Virginia lost a whole ass governor in 2017, Senator-Elect Jim Justice was first elected governor as a Democrat in 2016 and pretty much immediately flipped Republican. We keep losing legislators, too, most notably Doug Skaff, owner of two of the largest newspapers in WV.

@ErinInTheMorn Correct me if I’m mistaken, but it looks like that only bans using funds from this particular budget to display pride flags. It’s bad but sounds like it could be a lot worse. Would it preclude waving donated or already owned flags or displaying non-flag pride symbols?.

@fudokun7 @un_a_valeable The “they started it” part should probably get more attention. Britain dominated the slave trade, and their government spent two hundred years paying off the debt from compensating slavers, so maybe Britain shouldn’t be “a little smug” about their dominance in human misery.

@hillam_jared @The_Dirty_Mac @the_transit_guy Lmao, Nashville to Chicago through Louisville and Indianapolis is a little under 500 miles. The standard US rail gauge is just under 5 feet. 5 foot wide, 500 miles long means the total area taken of the tracks would be less than one half a square mile. O’Hare is 12 square miles.

@ALC42Charger Averaging just under full capacity seems impressive to me for a new route that has yet to run on any major travel season, no major holidays and only just hitting summer traffic. Extrapolated out, that’s over 200,000 rivers per year for just two trains of 300 per day.

@ErinInTheMorn Using the “deeply rooted history” test to say which minorities have rights. Woof. Even for cis people, a broad ruling here, with Dobbs and the upcoming Idaho abortion case, could seriously harm your right to make medical decisions with your doctor, even life and death decisions.

@zachp_25 I have seldom found a more visibly, openly LGBTQ-friendly town than Huntington, one of only 129 US cities to receive a perfect 100 on the Human Rights Campaign LGBTQ Equality Index. Especially at Marshall University, it’s so nice to see so many people like me living so openly.

@1followernodad That’s why I adore @Amtrak. Unlike driving, your fellow travelers are more than a faceless obstacle. Unlike flying, most people on the train want to be there, people who don’t mind the slower, scenic route. There are few simple joys I love more than just chatting on the train.

@CForumGA @NewsWire_US A great place to start would be to eliminate the maximum limit on the Social Security tax. It’s one of the only American taxes to follow an explicitly regressive tax structure, where poor people are required to spend a higher portion of their income on this tax than rich people.
