West Virginia has an opportunity to join the growing number of states, including Maryland, Ohio, and Virginia that have taken bold steps to legalize cannabis, and I believe it’s time we give the people a voice on this issue.
I’m a born and bred Mountaineer who takes pride in my Appalachian roots. Our people are resilient, strong, and grounded in our land and traditions. J.D. Vance reminds me how proud I am of my home, because I know he’s a fraud who has no idea what it means to be Appalachian. 🧵
40 years ago I ran on the field at Fairfield Stadium for the first time as a member of the Young Thundering Herd. Now, I'm running for governor. This picture was at the beginning of my Junior year.
I read "Hillbilly Elegy." It drove me crazy. It affirms negative stereotypes we've fought our whole lives to overcome. Appalachia has a rich culture and unbreakable resilience that should be celebrated, not reduced to harmful tropes.
Appalachia has been historically scapegoated and disenfranchised. Our resources have been stripped, and our people exploited for cheap labor. These systemic injustices, perpetuated by big corporations and wealthy outsiders, lead to poverty and addiction.
Vance wrote that Appalachia is a “hub of misery.” I’ve never read a bigger lie.
Unlike him, I believe in lifting up our communities, not tearing them down. We deserve leaders who get our struggles and will fight for real change, not just pay lip service.
Vance blames our people for these problems instead of addressing their root causes. He’ll do the same if we make the mistake of putting him a heartbeat away from the most powerful position in the world.
Thanks to your support, I’m officially the Democratic nominee for Governor of West Virginia! Now, the real work begins. Will you pledge to support my campaign this November?
I’m proud to stand with West Virginia’s public educators and honored to have their support! Thank you President Albert (AFT) and President Lee (WVEA) for standing with me.
#LaborDay
Appalachia deserves leaders who will work tirelessly to improve lives and create real change, not use us as stepping stones for their own political ambitions.
I reject J.D. Vance’s hypocrisy. I pray America does, too.

I believe in building up, not tearing down, shining brighter by being brighter.
We need a governor who can assure a stable, welcoming environment for businesses to thrive. As your next governor, I will deliver just that.
Vance claims to represent rural American values. But actions speak louder than words, and Vance's actions make it crystal clear who he is. I don't know many true Appalachians who consider an $8B Silicon Valley venture capitalist their closest mentor.
The WV legislature is now in special session, and I just delivered our petition to put reproductive freedom on the ballot in November. Thank you to the thousands of West Virginians who joined me in signing the petition; our work has just begun.
West Virginians deserve a leader who isn’t afraid to answer tough questions. That's why I've called on
@MorriseyWV
to engage in a public debate to discuss the issues facing West Virginia voters.
#WestVirginia
When the opioid epidemic hit Huntington hard, I went after the big drug distribution firms flooding our streets with opioids who bragged about “turbocharging opioid sales.” Patrick Morrisey lobbied for them. Let's hold him accountable this November.
West Virginia women are smart enough to make their own reproductive health decisions. I believe in a WV where every woman has the freedom to make choices about her body, free from government interference.

#ReproFreedomVoter
I'm honored to share that Planned Parenthood Votes! South Atlantic has endorsed my campaign for governor. Every Mountaineer should have the right to make their own health care decisions without government interference. With your help, we’ll restore reproductive freedom in WV.
I had a wonderful and enthusiastic response to my address before several hundred people at the WV Chamber of Commerce Business Summit. There appears to be a strong belief that West Virginians Lead The Way!
I agree that "what we need in this state now is young people...we gotta have workers." But young workers demand reproductive freedom. That's why I'm calling on the governor to add reproductive freedom to the agenda for the August special session.
Patrick Morrisey, Big Pharma’s best friend and favorite lobbyist, should not be anywhere near the governor’s office.
But don't take my word for it. Here's what his fellow Republicans had to say.
The key to overcoming the opioid crisis lies in empowering local communities to find solutions that work for them. What worked in Huntington may not work for Fairmont or Martinsburg. That’s why we need a governor who understands the importance of local, tailored solutions.
Recently, the U.S. Supreme Court made a decision to toss out a proposed $6 billion settlement with Purdue Pharma. The Sacklers should not be granted immunity from further legal liability. They must be held accountable for the devastation they have caused in our communities.
West Virginia needs a leader who has stood up to Big Pharma and produced innovative, comprehensive solutions for our communities. That’s why I’m running for Governor.
I'm honored to have earned the endorsement of
@WestVirginiaAFL
, who share my vision for a prosperous future for our state. WV workers deserve a leader who fights for their rights. I am committed to being that leader, unlike my opponent. 🧵
I'm honored to receive the endorsement of the Professional Fire Fighters of West Virginia in my campaign for governor. This endorsement is more than just a show of support; it's a testament to our shared commitment to the safety, well-being, and prosperity of every Mountaineer.
As we send our children back to school for another school year, our focus should be on ensuring that every child in West Virginia has access to quality public education.
Patrick Morrisey is responsible for this. This is the same Big Pharma lobbyist who made a sweetheart deal with the pharmaceutical industry. How can we trust him to fund the right solutions when he is part of the problem?
Doctors should be able to provide care without fear of prosecution. This isn’t a Republican or Democrat issue —It's basic healthcare. Let's keep up the pressure to legalize reproductive freedom!
Our movement to restore reproductive freedom in West Virginia is growing. The Dominion Post agrees—put freedom on the ballot and let the people decide.
The Huntington Professional Firefighters has endorsed my campaign for governor! These brave men and women keep our communities safe, and I’m honored to receive their endorsement. Together, we’ll ensure that West Virginia is a place where safety and service are valued.
Today is Primary Election Day and I'm not taking anything for granted. That's why I'm asking for your vote. Make your voice heard before polls close at 7:30PM.
As Mayor of Huntington, I successfully cut taxes, including the business and occupation tax, to encourage business development in our downtown area. But we did it responsibly, ensuring we didn’t bust the budget or jeopardize essential services.
The stakes have never been higher, and the consequences of abortion bans are becoming devastatingly clear. We can't let this happen in WV. Our petition has reached 10K signatures, but the fight for reproductive freedom is far from over. Join us.
New: At least two women in Georgia died after they couldn't access legal abortions and timely medical care in their state, ProPublica has found. This is one of their stories.
I’m very thankful for
@Sen_JoeManchin
's support and friendship all of these years. I agree that we need to bring people together, and that’s what I plan to do when I win this November.
Two years ago today, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, taking away a woman's freedom to control her own body. In West Virginia, we've seen disastrous consequences. I’m fighting harder than ever to restore this fundamental freedom.
As I told my friends—Marshall County Commissioners, Mike Ferro and Scott Varner—you play with whoever's on the field. And that's exactly what I'll do as governor.
It's time to restore these rights in West Virginia by putting reproductive freedom on the agenda for the upcoming special legislative session. Add your name to our petition if you agree. 👇
I know what it takes to hold Big Pharma accountable. A few years ago, I testified in a landmark opioid trial against the Big Three drug distributors. These companies flooded our communities with opioids for years, devastating our neighborhoods and tearing families apart.
When the opioid epidemic hit our community hard, we knew we needed to take action.
As a result, we transformed Huntington from being “ground zero” for the opioid crisis to “the city of solutions.”
We’re going to do the same for all of West Virginia.
As we gather with friends and family this Labor Day, I want to take a moment to honor the hardworking men and women who form the backbone of West Virginia. Their dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment built our communities and shaped our state’s future.
A special session starts tomorrow and more than 2,000 West Virginians have joined me in calling on Gov. Justice to put reproductive freedom on the ballot this November. There's still time to join us. Add your name here:
On Saturday, Mary and I had the pleasure of attending Charleston's Multifest, a celebration of our rich cultural diversity and a testament to the strength and unity of our communities. Let’s come together, strengthen our bonds, and work to create a brighter, more inclusive WV.
I’m all for cutting taxes — and I’ve done it in Huntington while paving roads, improving infrastructure and fully funding benefits for first responders and other city workers... 1/2
News reports of another assignation attempt on President Trump are very troubling. Violence has no place in our political discourse. Regardless of your political beliefs, we should settle our differences at the ballot box.
Our fight for reproductive freedoms continues to gain traction and attention across the state! It's time to keep this critical decision between patients and their doctors—not politicians.
Everything we will be doing this fall, is preparing ourselves to take on the mantle of lifting our state up in a way that it has never been before. I believe the way that we can do it is for me to be the next governor of the state of West Virginia.
This investment will have a transformative impact on our community for years to come, creating jobs, increasing our tax base, and making Huntington a model for economic resilience and growth.
#WestVirginia
Forever grateful to the brave service members who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Let's honor their memory by fighting to preserve the freedoms of every West Virginian.
Steve Williams might not be known statewide, but he’s done an outstanding job solving community problems and moving Huntington forward. He deserves the opportunity to do the same for the state of West Virginia. I wish him well in November.

Morrisey claims that “money should follow the child,” but what he’s really doing is undermining our public schools while funneling taxpayer dollars to private institutions, many of which lack proper accreditation and accountability.
A recent report estimated that this program could cost WV’s public schools up to $21.6m this school year alone, potentially leading to the loss of 364 educators and personnel.
Just a few minutes until the WV polls close.
Please join me at 7:35pm on your local radio station that carries

I will be on live with
@HoppyKercheval
to talk about the upcoming race.
If the governor is going to cut additional taxes, I wish he would present a plan for how he intends to do so while addressing our critical shortage of teachers, correctional officers and CPS workers. 2/2
Once known as “ground zero” for the opioid crisis, today Huntington is known as “the city of solutions.”
I’m running for governor to lead with solutions for all of West Virginia. Patrick Morrisey wants to stay in Charleston and continue representing Big Pharma.
@MorriseyWV
and GOP extremists are making it harder for WV women to access the health care they need. As governor, I will fight to restore and protect reproductive freedom. Women deserve the power to make personal decisions without government interference.
Our campaign website is up.
My travels around the state have been exhilarating. We have an opportunity to change the lives of our fellow West Virginians. We will set standards that the nation will seek to follow.
Join our mission.
#MakeNoLittlePlans
We cannot let Morrisey dismantle the education system that so many West Virginia families rely on. As your governor, I will fight to protect our public schools and ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed.
