@rustbeltenjoyer Aren't they also heavily recruited by the CIA+FBI? Apparently it's really easy to do security clearance checks on them.

@poppy_haze Oppenheimer was totally two-faced with Ed Teller. When Teller expressed that the US should demonstrate the bomb high above Tokyo instead of hurting people, Op told him to "leave it to the sensible politicians in DC". But secretly Op was in DC advocating for direct use of the bomb

@Papapishu single highest fiber thing i ever found (17g per tortilla). Strikes this insane triple point between cost, availability, and fiber/calorie ratio. It's basically a supplement. (For comparison, "high fiber" whole grain bread is 1g per slice).

@morgvanny completely breezing past the normally catastrophic "replacing car transmission" is a good bit.

@Papapishu SPF is logarithmic so 2 still corresponds to blocking 50% of UV radiation. 10 corresponds to 90%, and 30 is 97%.

@faith____0 Very funny that it "leads to" cold war, totalitarianism, class struggle, and professional sports

@liz_franczak "Singular Artistic Vision" is a reductionist view of the films that we only get with the benefit of hindsight. Star Wars was saved from George Lucas by his wife's editing. Dune 1984 was greenlit by executives because they wanted to recreate the success of Star Wars.

@liz_franczak I don't agree with this at all. Lynch's Dune and the original Blade Runner were mired in corporate slog, so much so that Blade Runner needed multiple rereleases to finally achieve the director's vision. Lynch was so frustrated that he distanced himself from the project.

@Very__Regular the android app becomes unusable for hours at a time because images refuse to load. It's so fucking bad.

@TheBrianMcManus you should absolutely compare this to The Alvin which has so much care and effort put into its safety systems. Like its ballast system! It's attached with metal designed to corrode after a certain time in seawater, so that even if the power fails it can still surface.

@vanillaopinions i do think they have a point about the reservations though. Theyre not on the same level as Gaza but still are pretty rough for the people living in them.

@chippledipple Really easy to outsource to South Korean animation houses like Rough Draft Studios simple design rules, simple shapes (circles and large features). It's all about the economics.

@flglmn my favorite metatextual joke in Return of the King is when Aragorn is trying to heal Faramir with kingsfoil and the herb/loremaster keeps going on and on about the etymology of different names for kingsfoil until a pissed-off Gandalf explodes at him.

@mycoliza This actually happened IRL with Haile Selassie and Rastafarianism . "I met Rastafarians. I told them clearly that I am a man, that I am mortal, and that they should never make a mistake in assuming or pretending that a human being is [a messiah]".

@asubparusername Also we accidentally exploded a thermonuclear bomb there and scattered plutonium over a 3-mile area . (it was only the primary TNT, non-nuclear explosion, but it almost went off).

@GarlicCorgi He also fails to mention that recognized behavioral addictions are completely new to DSM V and the field is still in active research. It's like Adam debunking nuclear bombs in 1937 because no one has proved one could work yet.

@ettingermentum In more positive reddit news, this is a pretty great start for a California redesign. I never realized until this moment how iconic yet simple the shape of California is. See California? You can *easily* do better:
