The BIGGEST surprise tonight?
State Superintendent Catherine Truitt, first elected in 2020, has been defeated by activist Michele Morrow in the GOP primary 52-48 tonight.
Morrow, who homeschools her kids, unsuccessfully ran for the Wake County school board in 2022.

Morrow has long been an far-right activist for education causes in Wake County, fighting against "CRT" and "DEI". It's just wild how she goes from losing a minor school board race to becoming a major party nominee to run all of the state's schools in two years.
It’s not every day that the governor’s Twitter account calls out one of this state’s senators.
Just a reminder: Tillis is up for re-election in 2026. Cooper will leave office in January 2025, freeing him up for… whatever he wants to do.

Who will you see in elevators come 2025? Might be Luke Farley, who has won the GOP nomination for Labor Commissioner with 37% of the vote as of midnight. Farley, endorsed by Cherie Berry, beat Rep. Jon Hardister (28%) who was backed by GOP establishment.

I think that Joe Kennedy III had a lot of potential but he made a massive miscalculation in challenging Markey. Now his political career is kind of at a dead-end. Idk who takes up the Kennedy mantle now.
Roy Cooper is set to be the last in a long line of Democratic Gov nominees from rural areas. Josh Stein and Mike Morgan both live in Raleigh.
Meanwhile...
- Cooper was born in Nashville and repped Nash County
- Dalton is from Rutherfordton
- Perdue is from New Bern

Instead of listening to Kevin McCarthy, you could have been listening to Steely Dan. If you started at 8:38 PM ET, you would be somewhere around Two Against Nature right now.
I’m not sure there’s any “winning” for him in this scenario. His original video could have been done better, but one look at the replies to this “apology” video will show that TikTok users are a hivemind.
TikTok zoomers don’t vote and don’t know what an AG does anyway

Jackson is visiting all 100 counties in NC, even the 80% Trump counties. I think it’s pretty important that candidates campaign everywhere. The margins matter and it’s good for the pols to get out among the public

What is it about being Governor of Louisiana that makes all of their US Senators want to quit their jobs
It’s already super rare to see people leave the senate to run for gov, but in LA they had Vitter, and now Kennedy and Cassidy

One look at the 2024 US Senate map and you understand why Dems should be worried. They have to defend seats in West Virginia, Montana, Ohio, Arizona, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Nevada, and Minnesota. Only pickup opportunities are Florida and Texas, both very unlikely.
This account is no longer active or monitored. If you have questions about a state service, please contact the appropriate state agency directly. It's been a pleasure serving you.
The Democrats’ propaganda machine seems broken. It’s almost as bad at Biden’s debate performance.
I mean, do you really think that if the roles were reversed, that Fox News would be talking about how internal GOP people want their nominee to stand aside?

The CA Democrats might be using the scenario to scare Dem voters in to turning out and voting against the recall. CA Democrats will be afraid of the (unlikely) scenario in which Governor Elder appoints a Republican to the US Senate and McConnell becomes Majority Leader again.

Raleigh did this recently. Increases turnout, but on the flip side, the issue it presents is that voters might be less informed about the local races they’re voting on because the news about the mayoral race is buried under stuff for president/senate/house/governor
