‘Toxic masculinity’ is toxic terminology, and there is a real possibility that exposing men and boys to negative narratives about masculinity is damaging to their mental health.
Find out more in my new research paper, based on a survey of over 4,000 men
A meta-analysis of 85 studies since the 1970s found bias against hiring women in male-dominated jobs has gone, but bias against hiring men in female-dominated jobs remains
Experts in gender bias were worse at predicting these findings than other people!

How is this not going to poison boys and alienate them against a core part of their identity??

Seems a bit OTT
Also, under the proposed laws, a woman will still be able to wolf-whistle a man, or another woman, if she wants to
Does that sound like equality or justice?
A study of 415 previously suicidal men found that after taking other factors into account, conformity to masculine norms was not a significant predictor of seeking mental health services.
Most men in this study were mature (36-44), but many studies of this topic are of students.

'Toxic masulinity' is toxic terminology.
Please specifiy the behaviour you are objecting to rather than using a term that gives the misleading impression there is something wrong with masculinity.
This terminology is probably especially toxic to impressional children.

Why is male depression so often overlooked or misdiagnosed?
@robkhenderson
quotes the book 'Perspectives in Male Psychology' to explain why
Sign up to his free newsletter which is a great source of insights into important & interesting topics like this
"male depression is commonly overlooked because depression questionnaires typically don’t ask about ‘acting out’ symptoms of depression [eg, anger, fighting, risk-taking], and male depression is recorded instead as substance abuse disorder or criminality"

"It is our methodology to distribute only to women to ensure that food gets to women and children in Haiti" UN's WFP
Apparently this strategy means for example a family that experienced a disaster which only left male survivors would not get food aid.
What?? This is insanity!
It's important that women are safe, but like many well-intentioned half-baked ideas, I think this one will backfire.
Most men don't need this law to make them safe for women, and men who are a danger to women - a small minority - will ignore the law or become worse because of it
