It is crucial that the new chair of the CCRC is not impeded by the “real possibility test” under s.13 of the Criminal Appeal Act 1995. If the “real possibility test” is not reformed / abolished, the CCRC will continue to fail innocent applicants no matter who the new chair is.
We have made a formal request to the Lord Chancellor @ShabanaMahmood to ask that the Justice Committee conducts pre-appointment scrutiny of the post of Chair of the Criminal Cases Review Commission (@ccrcupdate). Read our letter:

I saw this image and thought of the CCRC (@ccrcupdate). The evidence, 98% of applications rejected, supports the theory that it was set up to prevent wrongful convictions coming to public attention as they diminish trust and confidence in the criminal justice system.
