Cycling infrastructure is only as good as the drivers that interact with it. I'm sick of having to evade crap like this on every single ride. It should NOT be down to the cyclist to take evasive action at every single junction.

This is why I prefer to ride in primary position in traffic.
I don't like riding down the inside of cars, so try to stay central behind the one in front if there's no safe way to overtake. Coming up to this roundabout, I moved left to get a view of the junction. Big mistake

I'm so bored of explaining to people that shared footpaths are NOT cycle lanes.
They're not fit for purpose and promote dangerous mixing of two very incompatible users. I don't want to cycle on them, and for sure pedestrians don't want me on them either. Waste of paint.

This is why most cyclists don't like to wait at lights. Impatience of cars behind pulling stupid overtakes is common. Red light ahead, road narrowing, close-pass overtake, speeding, & then instant brake. Was at 20mph when it happened. Downhill & wet road made it more unsafe...

Driver had no idea I was there, going downhill at around 25mph. Fortunately, I could see it happening, saw her not looking and had the bike with the good brakes on...

In the meantime, we managed to cycle from London to the sea almost entirely off-road over 2 days. Kid 1 (6) cycled the whole 110km, kid 2 (3) got the most luxurious snack-filled trailer ride most of the way, though he did ride a few segments 👌🏻

The irony of this bus driver in Kingston this morning honking, shouting at and tailgating right-turning cyclists for not being on the bike path (where it is not possible to turn right), whilst he himself was not driving in the dedicated bus lane was magical to see…

Yielded to this driver at the junction & I noticed their move into the left lane was apprehensive, then I figured out why - wing mirror folded in & couldn't see🤦♂️

• 100 miles / 162km
• (+50km to/from the start line)
• 5 punctures (ruined my time but ended up being so ridiculous it was hilarious)
• All the weather. (Not often you come home with sun/wind burn & wet clothes.)

Not sure how many times I need to say this, but that is not a cycle lane, it's a busy footpath that has a bike painted on it.
It cedes priority at every junction it comes across, and < 12mph is required to ride there. It is not safer, for me or pedestrians.

I imagine somehow car brain will try and explain how this one was my fault, too... Riding primary as coming up to a narrowing island, and overtaking another cyclist after signalling but she still wanted to get past. Reported.

That’s the issue. Driver didn’t stop and look where they were meant to stop and look. As a driver you need to pass a test that includes theory tests about what the lines in the road means. Not perfect junction but the driver ignored everything that they shouldn’t have ignored.

That’s a shared path, and a useless one. I wasn’t inconveniencing anyone, I was riding patiently in traffic. On that path, however, I’d have inconvenienced many more people.

That’s a shared path, and a busy one full of pedestrians. And one that requires stopping every 50m for to give way at junctions. These are not recommended for cyclists above 12mph. I tend to ride much faster down here, so safer all round if I’m on the road.

I don’t want to keep drivers ‘onside’. I want drivers to stop being dangerous and killing/injuring thousands of people every year. No amount of checks and regulations on my 8kg bike will do that

4, My honest option is raise the limit for ebike to 20mph to keep up with traffic flow, happy to spend on cycle lanes but they must be enforceable and all bike must have an annual safety check to help fund and keep motorists on side and somehow a 2tier in city out of city system?

No, it’s also not the first time I’ve encountered drivers doing this at the, either - hence I stopped in time. Again, I have little issues with the junction and huge issues with the drivers using them incorrectly (and dangerously)

This learner driver the other night overtaking on doubles going over a hill. Seems to be a theme - at least 5 others cars on this ride doing the same.
Of course, I caught them up a few hundred meters later. There's no hope of drivers knowing the rules if they aren't taught them.

Show me the cycle lane… what I see is a shared-use footpath, which is not recommended over 12mph. Even in the traffic, I averaged 20mph down here.

I tell you now, I see this kind of behavior from car drivers much more frequently than at the occasional cafe - and the riders are all within sight of the bikes.

Initially I thought she was just going to edge out a little bit and stop, as often happens at junctions. So I was moving out in preparation to avoid her to the right if that was the case. I checked behind and no vehicles, so it’s always better to have space to move left or right

The kid can ride a bike well... He rides 5km each day to school. Most of it through a park, thankfully. Today, at the last bit of the journey, workmen had placed scaffolding on the pavement where he usually rides, making it impossible to be on the pavement, hence the road.

MVDP just won Paris Roubaix in the fastest time ever. Literally the world champion and probably the best classics rider ever, beat this record and the whole cycling world is going mad at how fast he managed to go.
How fast did he average? 29.7 mph.

Not you as well… it’s a shared use path, which is not recommended for use over 12mph. I averaged over 20mph down this road. Safer for me and the pedestrians if I use the road. Ultimately it’s my choice, as stated in the Highway Code.

and in this one you sent, there's a pedestrian stood in the middle of the section that bikes are meant to 'safely use'. You can't have it both ways... Either it's a place for bikes to be or it isn't. In this case it isn't, and it's safer on the road, so that's where I'll be.

19mph (32kmh) - slower than any of the vehicular traffic travelling on the very same road that the car was joining.
As for ‘flying along’ - I managed to come to a complete stop whilst fully in control with around 2 seconds notice. 🤷🏼♂️

300m further down the road... after dodging all the crap and crossing all the junctions, it shoves you out into the road anyway - at an exit to a roundabout no less, so hard to even rejoin the carriageway as your view of the main road is blind. Completely and utterly pointless.

Hi Dave. As per the video. 3 seconds between her beginning to move and me slowing to 3km/h. I'd say that was pretty good reactions and braking. You can see my power data here, notice the cadence (pedalling speed) drop significantly before the junction. What more can I do!?!?

The route was fun, but muddy in places: Took the Thames path from London down to Weybridge, then used the Wey navigation (mainly single track), which was an effort with the trailer, to get to Guildford. The next day we took the Downs Link trail to the coast! 3km of road total 🤟🏻

They blocked the rat run in Bushy Park and it’s transformed the whole experience of the place. There used to be a solid line of idling traffic through the middle of the green space, and now it’s just a calm, safe place. Kept the parking, which is great too.
