@RussInCheshire
Time for a reminder of Question Time and the scandals of their audience and panel selection. BBC scared of using Brexit in any news coverage on the Cost of Living and while we were at it, the BBC gave Farage a platform to promote himself and Brexit at just about every opportunity
@daraobriain
They hey day of the Parkie show was in the days when it was the last show of Saturday evening and they had a Hollywood great, and they just let the show run, keeping the transmitters on (because, yes, they switched everything off after the National Anthem). He was that good.
@Peston
The breadth of his dishonesty is breathtaking.
The fact that he didn't walk, but instead forced the PM to lay it bare speaks volumes as to his ethics, the disregard for damage to colleagues and government, and surely his expectation that there would be a cover-up. Damning!
@LondonEconomic
Bank accounts. What about non-banking financial assets? Private pension pots, ISAs, private investment trusts? Offshore assets?
One suspects this is a little people scheme yet wealthy people can probably immunise themselves from inspection.
@TheBrumBikeCam
Ah, clearly the cyclist is in the wrong by anticipating the collision and slowing thereby inviting the driver to take off their front wheel. Unless it was a Friday, then probably the priorities are inverted at that junction, or Road Tax, number plates, blah blah.
@LondonEconomic
A further thought. There are probably quite a lot of very wealthy people who are in receipt of state pension who are about to be very aggrieved that the Government is giving itself the right to pry without due cause. Branson, Sugar, Ratcliffe, Dyson?
@OliveSiffleur
What percentage of "work" is completely unproductive nonsense?
I mean most marketing and advertising is about getting people to do stuff they don't want or need? Leaflets through doors straight in the bin. 95% of modern news reporting; politicians fiddling while Rome burns.
@wartranslated
In the West, I'm sure lots of people think "What is the difference between living under Ukrainian rule or Russian rule?"
Videos like this tell why nobody would want to live under Russian government - why it is worth fighting against.
@The_TUC
Name a recent policy by the Tories where they have thought through the consequences of their actions and come up with a solid piece of legislation that will work properly without unintended consequences.
@AndyGJBurge
@bbclaurak
@MichelleMone
I think the answer is that she hasn't been charged so it is not yet sub judice. However, it stinks that the BBC are flying around the world after they fled the UK. If it was an investigative team, the BBC could justify it, but a political interviewer, absolutely inappropriate.
@IanDunt
"They won't be able to print Dorries's resignation letter verbatim."
"Why not?" said I.
"Why my dear fellow, no printing office in the world would have capital I's enough."
(with apologies to GF Muntz).
@RussellScott1
That response took all of 8 minutes to knock together.
How could Care Homes have strict infection control? Most would simply not be designed for this, no PPE was being provided, and also depended on agency staff moving from home to home.
@teaforpterosaur
And the plumbing designed to withstand depths of up to 2000ft under water yet their electrical sockets waft the electricity between the wall and a couple of bits of tinfoil, makes French wiring look military grade.
@visegrad24
Correct me if I'm wrong, dad was in a tank that got destroyed, all his mates were wounded and they beat a hasty retreat and survived by the skin of their teeth... and he should do it all again for a Nokia 3310?
@smolrobots
Hugh Grant was dumbfounded by the vacuous questions. I think he wanted to be pleasant and witty but didn't have a lot to work with - it's not like he had been invited on a talk show. The Vanity Fair gaff was a gem, and the boring suit question fail was hilarious.
@flaminhaystacks
Anyone involved in IT in the 90s would know that the claim that the system was infallible was laughable. The trade mags like Computer Weekly were onto this early on. The maliciousness of the PO management is beyond belief - it seems a bizarre group-think occurred - still there.
@AdamWagner1
A defining feature of this Government is the number of failed policies designed to appease extremists rather than to effectively govern. Brexit, Covid response, asylum seekers, public sector pay, NHS governance all tainted by this malfeasance.
@ukhomeoffice
@SuellaBraverman
Perhaps if you governed the country with the people's best interests at heart, there wouldn't be the need for protest. Bad government makes bad law.
@Peston
Given that he lied about having any such arrangements ever, and used lawyers to dishonestly suggest that this was a fabrication, the detail of the HMRC settlement is nearly irrelevant - unless it shows it was really criminal evasion toned down for the settlement.
@PippaCrerar
@DailyMirror
Strikes me that the Met and CPS now have been seriously embarrassed and they are going to look at the statements that the photograph was "insufficient" to disprove. Camera owner easy to ID, perverting the course of justice potentially jail time.
@Scousebird
I remember a couple who retired to a narrow boat 'cos it was cheap.
They didn't have insurance because it was too expensive.
The boat went up in flames. "We've lost everything."
Insure any necessity that you can't afford to replace.
@deirdreheenan
I've complained about the editorial cheating of using Vox Pops on the BBC. It allows the editorial staff to hide behind the claim of reported opinion to say anything they like. Complaints about this are rejected instantly yet it is the main tool the BBC use to project viewpoints.
@joshgerstein
Smith isn't bothered about the change, he is complaining about Trump's Counsel objecting to Smith submitting information in response to the change. Sounds like Smith wants to ensure there are conditions, e.g. to stop Trump's irrelevant oratory, which were not relevant before.
@AndrewHarbison1
@AdamJSchwarz
@campbellclaret
Has anyone compared dates of phone installations, OS upgraded, any WhatsApp bug reports, to disprove the "something unusual happened due to phone problems" line?
I think it should be possible to narrow it down to a deliberate action given the well defined dates of the messages.
@kylegriffin1
It sounds like his lawyers have goofed.
Normally, the form of these submissions is "While we don't admit to doing X, if X was done it would fall outside the scope of the law due to reasons."
Now, all Trump's lawsuits appear to have access to an admission of unlawful incitement
@drewsnx
The reality is that even in the 70s I could cycle as a child on an A road in Lincs. because cars were slower, less traffic.
When I moved to Forest Hill, SE London in '73, I stopped cycling because it wasn't practical. In '81 I cycled to Aldridge from Kingstanding. Had scares.
@PudseyPedaller
There is a theme: motorists make mistakes "shrug - live with it." Cyclists make no mistake but deal with driver error - "Cyclists need to learn how to look after themselves with defensive riding."
Drivers don't want to accept responsibility. Call it out every time.
@fesshole
A solar firm made unsolicited sales calls. Eventually I answered honestly and they came out to survey. They were a bit miffed to discover I already had panels installed. Another irate phone call - "Listen back, you never asked. You made the unsolicited calls that pissed me off."
@drphiliplee1
It is quite likely that it being a Japanese internal flight was a factor. It is in the Japanese upbringing to be obedient and follow instructions, as well as being considerate to others.
It would be very interesting if there is information on compliance, e.g. leaving bags.
@tombrossman
Anyone suggesting that the driver did nothing wrong needs to hand in their driving licence, not be allowed to buy a bike, not take a bus or train, and be condemned to walk everywhere for the rest of their days.
@Tendar
Be useful to know diversion distances and range of typical supply trucks. If trucks now need to refuel for the return journey then more stress is placed on fuel supplies - which have to come by the same routes.
@mrjamesob
I think that the Inquiry will be MOST interested that this message turns up when his phone could not be searched.
@GoodLawProject
will be aggrieved.
@phonekills
@RBKC
That's exactly how I would cross, because it's not for me, it's for the next person, next time. You can feel the driver's temper snap at you daring to assert your priority.
I've slapped a Jag on a ped crossing (far side) and the old gent nearly got out until he recovered himself
@johnestevens
So we have the prisons full of otherwise law-abiding and upstanding citizens while we have to release even more convicts because of over-crowding?
@keiththecamel
I'm more bothered by Sunak, Cleverly, Hunt, the bloke with all the names, 6 Bob Knob, Braverman, Johnson, Truss, the Mail, The Sun, The Torygraph - and the legion of billionaires pushing their buttons.
Sorry to depress you more.
@JoyceWhiteVance
Given that the judge is the sole arbiter of the sentence, Trump giving a political waffle rather than speaking to the case would be a pointless exercise - aside from abusing the courtroom as a political soapbox.
@CitizenUddin
@roadcc
@metpoliceuk
Please don't take any legal advice off Twitter, but that really is hilarious both for the fact that it still states you have failed to do something required by some far future date, and the restrictions are so wide it is unreasonable.
@RussInCheshire
I'm wondering why it is considered balanced for Lineker to make a single tweet and then Mordant uses the Commons to attack him, together with following an insulting tweet which he did a put-down in response, and Braverman had a long ITV slot to attack him with no reply from GL.
@KatiePennick
Every platform we used in Japan had level boarding across multiple train types with assistance provided. Platforms marked for disabled (& women only).
Every station was manned, even though they had lots of immensely complicated automatic ticket machines that worked without fail.
@PippaCrerar
Now he's been appointed to the Chiltern Hundreds, can we get him charged with Misconduct in a Public Office? I mean, he's bound to have done something.
@GoodLawProject
The insanity of the Tories is that the low bar the middle ground public set for them (as opposed to Labour) is competence.
In 13 years: fund building repairs to hospitals, schools and roads, keep up with asylum apps. pay doctors & nurses, & they'd be forgiven the other crap.
@CitizenUddin
Green means go if it is safe to do so.
It was not safe.
The supervisors have used their judgement to ignore the red light (which is not an offence in the UK) and the only danger was an impatient cyclist, who might have encouraged an impatient motorist to follow suit.
@EmmaKennedy
If the West Midlands was German, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Brum, Coventry, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield etc. would be interconnected by a dozen underground lines, 30 commuter train lines, 50 or so trams, light and airy buses timetabled to interconnect the lot. Instead...
@NOELreports
It's not long ago people were saying Ukraine had no answer for Russia's hypersonic missiles.
It turns out that Western tech can intercept most missiles and penetrate Russian air defence at will.
When propaganda is your main design technology that's what happens, I guess.
@Otto_English
My favourite example of the genre is the Pugwash fake Seaman Stains and Roger the Cabin Boy.
Many people would tell me that it was true and they remembered watching it. They never believed me when I said "So why did it always end with 'And Tom said nothing'?"
@RonFilipkowski
They should fine him as a percentage of his worth as declared by himself. Then he will be in a total spin as he won't know whether to inflate this figure for public consumption or minimise it to reduce the fine.
@MarinaPurkiss
More importantly, when his "inadvertent" omission was highlighted, instead of going the extra mile to ensure the information was appropriately shared, he and his team kept it hidden.
@peterwalker99
I've been banging on to various people, but Reform's Achilles Heel in this is not the generation of figurehead candidates, but whether they've managed to do this while complying with nomination (subscriber) rules.
@fascinatorfun
HS2 has been responsible for far more tree felling than was required - lots of places trees felled far from works and replaced with low quality fencing, not even for security. Nature trees good for biofuel so fellers are incentivised to fell - paid twice.
@righttobikeit
I'm glad you've got a conclusion because then it means you can work out a bit further how to avoid it next time.
If ever there was an advert for giving cyclists space, that'd be it. I know there would be trolls saying it would be your fault to go under someone's wheels, but...
@Gerashchenko_en
The reality is that the majority of nations have no effective air defence system, and also defence against drones needs a different defence than missile attack and is a new phenomenon.
It is not surprising that Russia didn't imagine needing air defence, even after the SMO failed
@i_SanjayLalwani
Criminal offence, dog not under close control on the highway.
Should have licences for the dogs, number plates and regular testing of owners before they are allowed on the road. And they don't pay road tax.
Have I missed any other useful suggestions?
@SirJJKC
The worst thing is openly saying "before the next election".
This is putting Tory Party above the law, Constitution and, while I am at it, the morality and humanity of the crisis.
@lawofruby
The judge was ready for that intimidation with his handling of the jury. Just like dealing with a mob trial.
His ending comments to the jury were also aimed at Trump. Don't give Trump the opportunity to hurt you in the future.
I wonder if Cannon will use the same care?
@ImIncorrigible
I think the rule is "If the thing you are complaining about is nothing like Nazi policies go ahead, if the thing you are complaining about is exactly like Nazi policies, you can't compare with 1930s Germany because wibble." Yep, I think that must be it.
@Derrick55096
@RonFilipkowski
Thou shall not kill didn't work out too well on J6 either. Is golf a holy pursuit suitable for the Sabbath in lieu of church attendance? He's quite keen on a bit of covet too. His followers skate close to the thin ice on no. 1 these days.
@stellacreasy
@Apple
It's surprising how many people even on Money Savings Expert seem still to think some bit of small print is enough to override your legal rights.
The effective loss of Trading Standards has been a step back in consumer rights.
@OfficerofEngin1
It took my wife about 2 years to get to a point where she wanted a relationship after her first husband died.
4 months? You are probably still wondering when you'll have the strength to tidy out her things.
@JoyceWhiteVance
I think she knows Trump is a lost cause and she's not going to give him the ammo to martyr himself, but the lawyers are now professionally warned and will no longer be earning appearance fees. I think they know the consequences of disobeying a judge's directions.
@AdamBronkhorst
I'll pay it as long as can get the same discount as electric vehicles - though in reality the incentive should be greater - they should be paying me cycle tax.
@RhonddaBryant
@grantshapps
And the Tories have been diligently stuffing the Lords for the past few years.
Fortunately there are some great minds within the Lord's who are still prepared to do what the Tory MPs have lost the art of - understand and scrutinise legislation so it works.
@IanDunt
Correct me if I am wrong, but surely the cost of a return trip to the Ascension Islands plus supplies and facilities might be more than the cost of employing a single civil servant full time for each individual claimant to process their claim?
How many person hours to process?
@carolvorders
@thismorning
The question I have is if it wasn't for
@DanNeidle
and others pulling away at nearly hidden threads, would Zahawi have been revealed to HMRC?
@CitizenUddin
Keep the interaction as evidence of unreasonable behaviour when you appeal this at the magistrates, if they ever get round to it. Ask them to put it in writing with reference to what laws they are using.
@laurencyclist
To give the driver credit, it appears that he responded, checking his mirrors and other vision systems.
If that is a stationary queue, then getting past is rational. The problem comes when the situation changes - when is not always predictable.
@RobDenBleyker
Historic Vids is a classic example. Recycles vaguely interesting articles, and the replies are all freeloading bots posting unrelated events. Plus a few young ladies who need more gainful employment and breast reduction surgery.
@Psythor
Most European cities have decent transport systems, using trains, trams and buses where appropriate.
They also seem to have buses that tell you where you are, as easy to use as trams & trains, are clean and used by anybody, not seen as some sort of punishment for previous sins.
@theJeremyVine
@spenniy
The Twitter MyWay Code demands perfection, indeed precognition, from cyclists, yet drivists are allowed lack of attention, speeding, and so on.
2 million insurance claims a year suggests that the standard of driving is not as high as drivists imagine.
Quite an impressive selection of posters who weren't there and only have their MyWay Codes in front of them opining on why a car turning left across a cycle lane nearly hitting a cyclist must be driving correctly.
* Blind spot
* Not a cycle lane
* Made up roolz.
This was the moment I nearly ended up under the wheels of this Audi who decided it was a good idea to turn left into a cycle lane without indicating or using their fucking mirrors. Full Footage being submitted to the police.

@jonlis1
It is not new, the problems of this failure has been well known for a long time, as has the state of school buildings, it is not a surprise and the NHS has the same problem.
Presumably the only extra information is a new report the Government didn't dare bury.
@CitizenUddin
Defrosting or clearing a windscreen for example is considered a reasonable exemption from the idling offence. Idling while sitting around for 45 minutes just to have claimed the prime space on the school pickup, less so.
@theJeremyVine
@BBCRadio2
@RealKenBruce
@RealLynnBowles
It's not losing Ken, it's quite sensible to keep roasting presenters, the problem is deliberately alienating the over-50s audience with a clear intent of giving R2 to the R1 audience of 10-20 years ago without a plan for the older audience. We don't want news and classical at 60.
@terrychristian
If I were the Tories, I'd be keeping my head down about Fiscal Responsibility, national debt, Truss burning a skip load of our dosh and so on based on how much it will cost us just to get back to square 1.
@PublicPriestley
It has been pointed out that the show was pre-recorded, so they had the opportunity to simply remove the inappropriate comment. Lazy producers would rather avoid the effort as it mucks up their timings so they leave in a hamfisted non-correction.
@BInvestigates
So, presumably as they gave evidence under oath, that will be a perjury charge if they were explicitly asked (7 years max). If it was just concealment, preventing evidence from being given to a statutory Inquiry is an offence of itself (51 week maximum prison sentence).
@JustinTPittman
@terriblekid_
@gunsnrosesgirl3
It was a really important change. Children stopped being choked to death by swallowing the tops as the airhole allowed them to breathe. A simple but important evolution. Same as for holes in packaging bags.
@JolyonMaugham
I don't think they've thought it through (do they ever?). The pensions poke around will capture the financial details of a lot of wealthy right wingers over the pension age who will have taken their pension, because why wouldn't you? Stand by for right wing blue rinse backlash.
@newsboy23
We don't need to know about her private life.
We do need to know what services were provided to the nation that deserved her ennoblement. Without a clear justification it is reasonable to presume a nefarious purpose.
@AdsCondron
@gmptraffic
@gmpolice
The "advantage" of this offence is that it is an assault therefore is not bound by the timescales of NIPs. So assault, plus the various driving offences implied, plenty for GMP to have a go with.
Personally, I think these need to be treated as violence rather than driving.
@Femi_Sorry
My basic theory of the Tories is that they have an undeclared policy of diverting tax take into private hands having divested all state assets. Where they deem tax take insufficient they can introduce payment for state services.
Everything is about extracting the last penny.
@BlondeHistorian
@GuideDogAva
If I see someone apparently struggling in a wheelchair or partially sighted at a crossing, I try and say something like "Would you like some help?" which leaves control with the other person.
Do you have a favourite way of being asked?
@DanNeidle
Agreed.
For the PM, it is bizarre that a senior minister has embarrassed the Government with deceit over an extended period of time, has something of a track record of carelessness as well, and yet the PM is unable to act decisively given the undisputed facts of the case.
@CyclingInASkirt
Nobody seems to have yet mentioned that any careful and considerate driver would not be parking against the flow of traffic in the first place.
