Saw this meme again recently, wondered if anyone knew who to credit? - whoever it is, they're spot-on!
Just off to bed now, so might find out in the morning. Night all x
NEW:
@DailySignal
spent this week in Randolph, Vermont, speaking to high school girls who face heavy criticism + potential punishment from their school for pushing back against a biological male using their locker room. Here's what these girls have to say for themselves:
@DoubleChocChip
@ElisabethJane
Because some people try to hide their racism, islamophobia, and antisemitism behind virtue-signals like this one, but we see it.
I'm an atheist yet I can empathise with religious women, & abuse survivors, who will self-exclude from mixed-sex spaces, so why can't
@ElisabethJane
?
@hatpinwoman
I no longer underestimate the extent to which homophobia is involved. I helped a friend transition (20+yrs ago) 1st thing they expressed after surgery was the "relief" at being "straight" - That was the moment I peaked.
@Fox_Claire
I do appreciate you always fighting for us Claire❤️but the minister's response was inadequate. In medicine especially we need a word to exclusively mean 'adult human females'. His caveat of "+ anyone with ovaries" means we aren't permitted a distinct word for our own sex class.
@FeministRoar
"If we inhibit puberty early enough to remove all adult sexual function, along with their ability to ever orgasm, then we won't have to cut their tits off."
Wow such great news!
...And from a man who waited until he'd married and had at least 2 kids before he gave up nothing.
@holly_char_
So sorry. My friend transitioned 20+yrs ago, 1st thing they expressed after surgery was the relief at "finally waking up straight". I should've seen it coming but really didn't. With hindsight they grew up in a very homophobic environment, parents (esp. Dad) & friends at school.
@joslyoung
My apolitical sister told me she has had TWO conversations (friend and father-in-law) about it today, and they brought it up! I think it is a combination of proximity and that it provides proof that they really are trying to change laws in ways that redefine us, and our rights.
Thank you
@DreyfusJames
for following me, that's made my day!
Also, thank you for all you do. Especially after many other celebrities are tweeting about how unnecessary it is to protect free speech.
@AndyHal15523851
@kenchengcomedy
I know, thank god women don't have to juggle kids and jobs since all men finally stepped up and started sharing the load. I'm so relieved that the sexist period where women had to do the bulk of the childcare and housework on top of their day jobs is finally over. Phew!
@BraddockBessie
Supported a friend through transition 20+yrs ago, first thing they expressed after final surgery was relief at "finally waking up straight". The homophobia suddenly starkly obvious. The more I looked, the more I found. Also, I was always offended by the stereotypes=woman crap.
@SteveDoran11
@EarthandAnarcy
@sharrond62
@Riley_Gaines_
You are expecting blanket, unconditional, respect for a group of men so it is exactly the same as the priesthood. You are also telling us that "women" are now a mixed-sex group with no solid definition - can you not see how this impedes the fight for women's rights? Do you care?
@originalslicey
@jk_rowling
@Primark
That's not what it says, you must have misread it. It says only a handful occur in single-sex changing areas because most incidents happen in unisex spaces.
@clgood
@Ayaan
Her article is about why women need language to describe ourselves and our experience in the world - are you arguing that for trans people to exist we must remove women's language or can you maybe see another way forward where we just acknowledge we are separate demographics?
@SteveDoran11
@EarthandAnarcy
@sharrond62
@Riley_Gaines_
It would give a predatory man cover and access to women's spaces. I don't know if you remember all the scandals surrounding the priesthood, but most of us do and we remember what happens when you create a sacred subset of men in dresses whose motives no one can question.
@22teapots
It definitely is, been noticing it for months now - all nationalities too. IRL too, neighbour I gently broached the subject with was already reading 'Invisible Women', 27yr-old colleague was dying to talk to someone about it. Things are moving.
@Hardley76
@hatpinwoman
Been rabidly talking to everyone I meet about this for years, and that is the single biggest obstacle for me - all of it sounds unbelievable. Every. Single. Part. It's even harder to prove to Guardian readers who aren't aware of any of it and refuse to read other sources.
@ShaunLovesMaths
We already have words for people with a penis or a vagina. When sex/age doesn't matter we use 'person', where it matters we use man, woman, boy, or girl. How can anyone argue that our language for ourselves is not being erased if you won't even use it when it matters?
@framboiserouge
@stellacreasy
Same. I am angry about so much that is wrong in the world right now but I can't vote for anyone who thinks women are defined by stereotypes over biology. The same stereotypes we've been fighting our whole lives to throw off, it makes me so angry.
@JuPitch84
It's not that I think all DQs are inherently dangerous but rather that the concept of blurring the lines between adult & kids entertainment is. To me it's the equivalent of a stripper in blackface reading to kids under the banner 'Stripper’s Story-time'. 1/2
@giagia
@ETVPod
@lecanardnoir
@oliophi
Also, bleeding out of our genitals one week in four for around 40yrs has quite an impact too, especially for those of us with fibroids or endo. I would argue, much more of an impact than whether we wear our hair long or like handbags or kitten heels.
@LiamCuthbertArt
@JohnJamesTV
@jk_rowling
GC arguments are that sex matters to women because we have a completely different body-type to males that menstruates, can get pregnant, has different immune system so we need distinct healthcare, private spaces, prisons and sports. How is this similar to homophobic arguments?
@poiu477
@Thepudness44
@Michael_AW77
@hotelbarpodcast
@Docstockk
Have you never noticed how only women get pregnant, menstruate, give birth, need abortion access, go through menopause, have different immune, musculoskeletal and endocrine systems to men?
Do you ever wonder if those differences have a huge impact on the lives of women?
@LightShiner2
@CrunchAlias
This is a nice 25 min explainer. I only watched it yesterday (apologies can't remember who I originally bookmarked it from). Very informative, useful peaking tool. (13mins in = especially useful).
@JuPitch84
2/2 I understand seeing some people just shout ‘pedos’ at guys in spandex seems a leap, but even in toned down outfits, reading tame books, there remains that inappropriate blurring of the lines between adult entertainment and kids entertainers, + the offensive womanface aspect.
@Geek_Pride
Yes, that's the point - it's sexist to say women should adhere to stereotypes and equally sexist to say they can be defined by the stereotypes, The only way to fight sexism is to stop associating stereotypes with the sexes rather than simply swap the labels around.
@JS60395957
@soniasodha
@AudreySuffolk
They are so bloody disingenuous "no one should be required to be studied in order to access healthcare" as though they're completely unaware that this 'healthcare' is currently experimental, with little useful data ever collected and zero evidence of safety or efficacy so far.
@daeniSs
@archer_rs
Are you really not offended by the notion that 'woman' is a 'mode'? Women are fully human, the same as men (aside from our distinct biology). We're not a pair of heels, or lipstick, or a way of looking, feeling, or behaving, & we are certainly not a mode. I am hugely offended.
@McBrideVersus
@CattyArt1
The denial of reality. I hate the resultant child mutilation & removal of our rights in law too, obviously. But the denial of the reality, that sex is real and matters sometimes, really pisses me off because it implies women & girls in places like Afghanistan choose their fate.
@tryingattimes
@gone_too_far__
@esjayXX
This, 100% this, all of this. To me it is the MOST offensive part of their ideology (in a pretty big list of bloody things) the idea that women are the stereotypes we have fought against our whole lives, and they are celebrated for saying it.
@TAFKAMacM
Agree, but it seems such a low blow referring to James like he doesn't even register to her as anything other than 'another BLOKE'.
I do hate it when people say they are 'disappointed' in celebrities (like they'd care) but FFS I am disappointed she could be this thick or cruel.
TRA: What if someone is wearing such a good disguise that they fool everyone?
GC: Being that good at disguise is impossible / very rare
TRA: But what if someone's disguise was so good it really did fool everyone?
GC: Then they might get in
TRA: Ha, you judge people on looks!

Helped MtF friend transition 20+yrs ago. After final surgery they expressed relief at "finally waking up straight" - the homophobia became immediately obvious, like a brick to my face. Had doubts before as 'feeling like a woman' never made sense as I consider women fully human.
Tipping your own urine over your head, with your knob out, will not convince ANYONE that you are a woman.

@DuncanHenry78
@Lachlan_Edi
Their conflation of sex with gender is still one of the biggest hurdles, once we untangle that the rest should follow. It's the reason we have males in female prisons. Personality can't get impregnated, but one sex can.
@simonjedge
I agree but flipside is my son's in LGBT group at school & currently 7 of ten = T. All but one T are from disadvantaged backgrounds, & I know homophobia at home plays a part in at least 3 (all are SS-A). Also, several girls we know identify as ‘Ace’ to escape pressure re sex.
@LedenUnor
@michaelwhite
Exactly, it affects all of us when the name of our sex-class is redefined as a mixed-sex group based on sexist stereotypes. Women have fought long and hard to be seen and treated as fully human we don’t want to be externally redefined as an expected presentation or a feeling.
"Legal protection for one’s membership within a protected group cannot be provided if there are no settled criteria for determining whether one falls within or outwith that category."
@scott_free91
@jk_rowling
When you say 'society has made accommodations and provisions for women' did you perhaps mean to type 'finally edged towards putting right centuries of treating the male as the default human'?
Save this story for the next time someone asks what an AGP is, or what harm it does, or why it's offensive to women.

Women is the collective noun for female people. We need a way to name the group female people because they are the only people who get pregnant (and who menstruate, get cervical cancer etc). We don't need a collective noun for people who wear dresses and lipstick and feel girly.
@emrazz
@vickilucy
@salltweets
@BinaShah
I don't hate anyone, certainly not for their "gender". I just don't believe that there is such a thing as "woman personality" and I find it offensive that it is considered a possibility when there is no proven biological basis for gender identity.
@thomashirons
@Parsleymael
@_Lisa_Townsend
The only 'people' who get pregnant are female, no matter how they identify. On the day that women's abortion-access just took a turn for the dark ages you had to be the twat that wants to group together people by gender-stereotypes instead of abortion-access needs. Fuck. off.
@Docstockk

Girl bullies don't have an average 162% punch-strength advantage over others girls, but boys do, even (and I can't stress this enough) even if they put on some lipstick and call themselves 'Susan'.
Wow.

Saying males should not be in women's refuges, rape crisis centres, prisons, sports or other single-sex spaces is not 'persecuting a minority' it is standing up for women and girls. Speaking to people with different views is normal for adults, not a hate campaign. Grow up ffs.
@teaandabikkie
@BraddockBessie
Thank you. Yes, it is a medical scandal, facilitated by a mass delusion & 'be kind' naivety, compounded by the perfect storm of homophobia from one direction, AGP coercive control from another, blown mainstream by a mix of social contagion and profit-driven juggernauts. Madness.

My son's school has separate girls, boys and neutral loos. He says they work really well and keep everybody happy. The neutral loos are brand new so plenty of people use them and the existing single sex loos remain well-used too.
@notthatGraeme
@joannaccherry
Yes, all violence matters. There are sex-specific issues though, such as how men have an average punch-strength advantage of 162% over women. Consider also that we treat a teen punching a toddler more seriously than say toddler on teen violence.

If only you'd learned that it isn't reasoned to tweet condescending disappointment at a famous, strong, lesbian hero, who doesn't agree with you that lesbians should include males in their dating pool.

Having a period is more than menstruation.
Bloating, cramps, dehydration, etc. All come for me in the week before the full moon. It's not imaginary it's a literal physical thing. I talk to other cis women about like this and they're like oh yeah I get that too!

Just started learning Korean & I already know 'woman' & even 'fox's cornea' (for reasons known only to Duolingo) but I haven't a clue what either uterus or cervix are - I don't think they're coming up anytime soon either. ...although TBF I wasn't expecting 'fox's cornea' either.

I'll never understand how 'experts' approved PBs without ever once considering that the resulting underdevelopment would render existing vaginoplasty methods impossible. Almost as though the whole idea was driven by aesthetic obsessed AGPs...

FWIW I think any flag at this saturation level would be unsettling, but this bastardisation of the original rainbow is so much worse. 'All the colours of the rainbow' whilst widely misinterpreted, stood for cohesion not division - every human, all stripes side by side, equality.

@JustSharonThen
It's funny that we so often underestimate what a large part simple, common or garden, stupidity plays in trans activism.

I'd say it is dark blue-green, teal. If the argument is between a man and a woman it should be noted that men and women often see blues and greens differently.

I helped a friend transition 20yrs ago & know why they transitioned - internalised homophobia, from when their Dad left them (age 9) saying he 'didn't want a gay son'. There appear to be many similarly inspired looking at whistleblower testimonies such as

I thought this was ruined by the 3 parts all clearly being played by the same guy wearing 3 different hats, but other than that, excellent parody.

Science does not say that. Here is the Endocrine Society's Statement (2021) explaining sex is dichotomous (two kinds) and gender is a psychological concept with no proven biological cause.

@Carriedenne1
It's not about arrogance or genius, it's about SEXISM. Woman is not an identity, or a costume, we are human-beings. Nobody can feel like a woman, because we don't feel any different to any other human. No-one can dress like a woman, or live 'as' one, only stereotypes.
