Anyone in BC having their kids get sick overnight?
My son woke up yesterday with fever, awful cough and stuffy/runny nose. He only went to school 1day last week.
Talked to teacher today- she said 65% kids/teachers out sick. Parking lot empty.
Whatever it is…😬
We all need a little hope today to keep going.
Here’s my contribution: my 16 year old son is non verbal. Like completely 😢. However, the other day after I made him some 🍪 and put some in a bowl for him, I hear the sweetest, loveliest 2 little words
“Fank you”
Clear as day

I popped out to 7-11 an hour ago. Wearing my N95, I told the cashier and the lineup behind me to ‘ Mask up folks. Monkeypox in BC’
Cashier:😳, grabs mask box
Lady behind me: runs for the door
Guy in front: ‘fuck me. I knew it’, grabs his purchase and sprints
I waited 6 months for urgent 🫁 function testing, and finally had it this morning.
My results indicated 30% predicted. To put this in perspective, the tech asked if I was a coal miner 😳🥴😬
Normal ratio is >80%.
I was instructed to *not* exert myself in any way ⬇️

Within a semester, I surmise many schools will close again, with staff out on disability.
The adults make their own choices. The kids are helpless and it’s infuriating.
Just got word that my lovely neighbour died this morning 😭😭😭😭
2 weeks after radiation treatment as a last ditch effort. 1 week after being admitted to hospice. 2 months from diagnosis of cancer.
BC is so f’d up it was 9 months of agony before they took him seriously
@deaflibertarian
@mhdksafa
Canadian here. I’ve had 2 cancers, 1 pre cancer, 3 recurrences and now a terminal genetic lung condition.
You know what I’ve paid for in 11 years of treatment? Parking.
My weekly plasma infusion by home nursing is $10k per.
Even on disability, I’m not bankrupt
@richardzussman
Ok. Tell them to close the golf courses then. Or how about the private schools not run field length sprinkler systems all day? Because I saw both this morning green as can be.
@SoniaFurstenau
BC is most definitely trying to privatize healthcare. My son has an urgent issue, and there are zero walk-in spots on the island, Telus Health is a 2 week wait, and local clinics are now charging for appointments. This is criminal. $125 for a virtual?
Finally was able to book Novavax.
On SALT SPRING 😵💫.
Not one dose or appointment available on Vancouver Island, but the Gulf Islands have it? What fresh hell is Bonnie brewing now??
Oh, and it’s not until Nov 15th. Another month before I’m boosted

My son has autism-non verbal. We were at the lab waiting for blood test, and a Filipino lady sat next to him. He scoots over and puts his head on her arm. She kinda freaks for a second, until I said ‘sorry about that but you lol like his Auntie’
(Brothers wife). 🥲
@erikaheidewald
My son is 18 but socially, functionally and emotionally about 3.
He can’t make a snack, shower alone, make his bed, be left unattended in anyway or ever be independent.
We celebrate the small things. The day he could dress himself without assistance I was so proud.
@BCTodayOfficial
@jjhorgan
Ok Horgo. Let’s see you hold a packed press gallery, maskless and with unvaccinated attendees. Show us how safe we are simply using hand sanitizer.
@rivercanal17304
@davethompsonMD
May I suggest a little extra too? If you can, install keypad locks on the *inside* of your doors. We have them to keep my autistic kiddo from bolting out the door. Also installed 1 on my bedroom door so he can’t get in there. He discovered window was easy to jump from
My bff’s mom had a massive stroke probably on Monday. Her LTC didn’t notice for at least 18 hours until a care aide realized she was struggling to breathe and was uncommunicative. That was Tuesday afternoon. The LTC dr actually asked if they should send her to the hospital
Well that’s just great… the gal who cleans my house on Mondays… has covid 😳😭
She’s just texted that she’s been deadly sick all weekend and she’s scared. 25 year old, fully vaxxed.
Fml. Now I’m worried she exposed us.
@saitken67
I was in the Emerg today thinking I was dying. I was never asked about covid, offered testing nor put into a safe space despite my cancer. Even hospitals have given up.
@ellle_em
When I was 8, brother was 10, mom took us to a resort island for 2 weeks. Single mom, never got to go out.
One night, she decides to drop us at the town hall because a movie was playing and we’d be safe while she went for some drinks.
Movie was Rocky Horror Picture Show

I’m becoming alarmed at the extremely unusual weather here on the West Coast. I literally live in a rainforest, and normally we’d have rain and actual fall weather. But look at this forecast! I fully expect water shortages at this point 😬

We don’t mind buying our own shit. In fact, independent women never order things they can’t pay for.
What we dislike is the disrespect. You ask for a date, you’re paying. She asks, let her pay. Otherwise, gal should leave generous tip and guy can learn some manners
@TheOriginalLeeP
@need_tums_now
Wut? That’s just brainwashing. Pay people what they’re worth and the managers inconvenience goes away. You’re justifying treating front line workers like peons.
Crowd source request:
Is there an N95 or KN95 mask producer that offers custom printed designs? I’m interested in buying a bunch that say ‘Transplant patient’ ‘Cancer patient’ or ‘immune compromised’ printed across them.
This is my dad. He’s a stubborn b*astard. He joined the army at age 15. Served on bases all over the world. Raised his 4 younger siblings after his mom died in childbirth.
Black belt in karate. Could bike 100 miles. Ran a few marathons.
Now 90 pds . Covid + 🫁 disease…
@wecarryon2
I received. Self monitor letter today from Viha. Kid in my sons class was at school all last week with Covid, and they never bothered to notify me, despite my having put in writing to be notified of exposures. This entire system needs to implode.

Lawd help us all. I had a horrific something picked up from hospital during day surgery mid October. Negative for flu, rsv and covid. But ended up as pneumonia 2 weeks in. Took Levofloxicillin as 3rd line anti-b’s to knock it out. I jokingly called it Anthrax ‘22

Had it done same age. Begged for years only to be told ‘ but you might want more kids’. Ya, no. One and done at 32. Firstly had tubes tied at 36. Pro tip for ladies facing resistance… period problems including frequent bleeding can be solved by endometrial ablation- TL required
Looks like I have Leukemia. As expected. Still waiting on testing but I’ve got a lymph party happening. Np came today to measure my nodes.
Popliteal node (back of knee): 7 cm. Apple sized.
Elbow: 5 cm. Golfball.
They pop up out of nowhere. No pain though.
So, DBH’s claim is there are “limited” supplies of rapid tests. Well, she flat out lied. I researched on PHAC this morning. Most of the stockpile has never been sent out. Is it missing? 🧐Did they sell them? 150k only sent to health regions.

So today, after DeathTV, I texted my kiddo’s teacher. We chat about him being home, me worried to send him back with new diabetes, etc. She responds:’ wouldn’t be too high risk. We’ve all had covid since mid Jan’ 😳
She meant the ENTIRE class. I’ve received zero notices.
@frozen
Had GP appt today. She called because my immune system is crashing. Get there, entire office was wearing N95’s. Apparently, she instructed every patient today to put one on because of me 😬. They had a box just outside the door saying required.
Ugh. My dad’s in the hospital with Covid. They moved him to a negative pressure room. It’s everywhere in Victoria.
His lungs can’t handle it. Sats are in the 60’s without Bipap
@DrKarenPinder
Point out that my 79 yr old dad died last Sunday from covid. That he caught at a mall buying lotto tickets and prescriptions from London Drugs 😭
@rickpidcock
In the 70’s, Canadian military required wives who worked to have their pay deposited into the husbands account. Ask my mom how happy that made her. He’d leave on maneuvers and she had no access to her own cash
This year won’t quit being horrible.
Last night, my FIL shot himself on his couch, with some of his grandkids visiting.
I’m in shock. There are no words to describe the devastation.
Surgery day. Bit anxious 😣
They’ve got me scheduled at noon, and I’ll be hangry and in caffeine withdrawal by then.
The good news is I finally get the clumpy goo out after it’s been leaking for 19 months.

@SRuhle
Think of it as a mob metaphor. You borrow from Uncle Pauly. The ‘vig’ (usury fee) must be paid on time until you pay back what you borrowed. If you hide, they’ll find you and suddenly you’re on crutches. That’s the margin call.
@vexedinthecity
The generation who have seen cost of living explode from cheap and affordable to outrageous and worrying about becoming homeless. I moved out in 1990 at 18, rent was $275, I made $6 per hour, and had money to burn. Now, rent is $2500, and pay has only doubled.
@a_longhurst
My dad in Victoria called tonight to vent that his homecare for COPD (severe alpha 1 Antitrypsin deficiency like me) has been put on hold indefinitely. He’s immobile, can’t leave the house for respirology and his oxygen was delivered by the nurses.

My stylist went from $45/cut to $85. Does not include shampooing or style. They also moved locations and parking is not free.
She’s not my stylist anymore
@karriehiggins
Where to start? Ok, with my genetic lung disease.
Spent 3 years getting progressively sicker. Multiple 🏥 stays, 20 telehealth appts begging for testing, housebound because I couldn’t breathe etc. No one cared or listened. Just tossed another useless puffer at me.

Wish more doctors country wide would speak up! What’s the point of worrying about your job if the hospital collapses and you lose it anyway!
FYI…grocery stores are not safe.
My brother works for one owned by a BC Billionaire. 20% of the staff are out sick with covid, and the staff still working are wearing shitty cloth masks.
Curbside pickup or delivery only if you want to be cautious.

Let me do a few tweets here to share my experience today trying to get kiddo tested:
- called the booking line 844-901-8442 at 8 am, sat through 4 minutes of prerecorded drivel before I could confirm callback#.
-3:50pm, still no callback, so I redialed, chose option 3
lol @ BC PWD. Canada Disability pension bumped me up a bit as part of the annual inflation index. BC reduced it by the same amount.
They really love standing on your throat.
@ellle_em
That was my introduction to cross dressing and live action movies 😆. Bread and drinks flying everywhere.
When she picked us up, my brother says ‘Mom, that movie wasn’t for children’s eyes’ lol
Mom then finds out it wasn’t Rocky & Bullwinkle.
For the *3rd* year in a row, our family up island has Xmas covid 🤦♀️. So much for dinner again. Worst part is, they’ve now exposed my brother again. Gave it to him last year. My brother with my identical type of Alpha 1.

The best care I’ve ever had was at a hospital in Playa Del Carmen Mexico. The room was like a spa. Full menu. Brought me a cappuccino, fresh cut fruit, egg quesadilla and pastries for breakfast. View of the beach. Was grand. It SUCKS in BC
@runninggreento
@AdvancedTweaker
All fun and games until you find yourself watching somrone you love in their last hours as the covid pneumonia drowns them. Like me watching my right now
So, my awesome vacation to Mexico became a nightmare.
I’m currently in the hospital with a collapsed lung and pneumonia.
NOT Covid- multiple tests ((rapid and PCR negative). So it’s a garden variety illness. Thank gawd for good travel insurance!
We decided this weekend to sell our house and downsize to a condo. Found a listing with the perfect layout, handicap accessible and low budget (amazingly). We’ll have enough to put down after the sale, to drop our mortgage from $2700 mth to $885 mth. After paying off 🚗 and 💳

. Not now, not ever. This is total bullshit. You need to refund this family their ticket purchases, issue a public apology and discipline the staff.
So are all the staff at Lord Strathcona Elementary going to get vaccinated?
The WHOLE school was exposed.
Is this a variant? Employees have a legal right to know what specific hazards they’ve been exposed to.

I know far too much about various cancer treatments. Whipple is my great fear (besides Met Melanoma). I’m so upset for that patient 😭
Another day, another emergency 😭
Had to call 911 for my mom. She’s been vomiting blood since last night and never mentioned it. I went to check on her and she was covered head to toe. Bed soaked.
Wth.
