Here's how Karl Lauterbach, Germany's Federal Health Minister, defended his decision to mandate masks in schools. It's quite simple: We don't know the long-term damage to kids from a single covid infection let alone repeated infections, but what we do know isn't encouraging.

Just learned that a friend who caught COVID from Rugby 7s in March 2020 is palliative. They never recovered, never went back to a job where they held important knowledge that no one else had, and are now doing end-of-life care. Long Covid treatment in BC has been minimal.

I'm tired of listening to public health officials lie about the covid risks to kids, lie about the likelihood of covid transmission in schools without mitigations in place, and lie about the role children play in driving this pandemic. Or was it just professional negligence?

Canadian health officials admit they still aren't bothering to track the number of sick kids in our hospitals. In year 5 of a global pandemic, this is a staggering and unacceptable dereliction of duty.

I'm tired of people—friends, family, doctors, politicians—who are tired of covid. I'm tired of their mental myopia ruining it for the rest of us. Sooner or later, the bill for our collective covid frivolity will become due.

If you're wondering why Covid continues to hit Canadian hospitals and healthcare workers so hard, it's because public health M.H.O.s stubbornly continue to deny the primacy of airborne transmission. Dr. Daly is wrong: #COVIDisAIRBORNE . Cc. @jljcolorado @kprather88

. @VicLeungIDdoc doesn't mince words: COVID-19 is an airborne pathogen, and for the most part the world's efforts to control it have failed because we have not heeded this essential fact. Think smoke, not rain.

Today, Dr. Henry claimed that although child infections increased dramatically during the Omicron era—80%+ of all BC kids have been infected—children are not at greater risk of hospitalization, long-term illness, and death. Henry's false statements are not supported by her data.

25% of kids in my son's elementary school were absent due to illness today. That's over a 100 kids in a 400-kid school. Meanwhile, the PHO doesn't "see the need for a mask mandate" because "we have a high level of protection from a variety of respiratory illnesses" around us.😠

Dr. Bonnie Henry didn't want mask wearing normalized in British Columbia, and did everything in her power to ensure they weren't. People are being harassed for wearing masks because Henry sided with societal bullies instead of at-risk populations. Ponder that.

Dr. Henry had the opportunity to decrease viral transmission by simply RECOMMENDING that everyone wear masks in all public indoor settings. Instead, she chose to portray masks as a basically worthless viral mitigation tool, and in so doing, hurt the cause of public health today.

I agree. Parents and others have warned for months that Dr. Henry isn't taking the safety of young children seriously. Today, she offered irrefutable proof of that fact.

Viral dose matters. So things like HEPA filters and respirators that reduce the inhaled viral dose are key, while things like handwashing and hand sanitizer that don't reduce the inhaled viral dose are not. Internalize this. Fight for clean indoor air.

A short 🧵on a recent study by @MaggieLind2 with @MHitchingsEpi @datcummings Albert Ko et al. Data show that immunity induced by vaccines, prior infection or both (hybrid) protects against SARS-CoV-2 infection when viral exposure is low to moderate (1/)

Dr. Henry, March 30, 2023: "But what we have seen is a decrease in the number of people with Long Covid." In no universe could this statement accurately reflect reality. Covid is still everywhere. The idea that #LongCovid numbers are decreasing is pure fiction.

I find it odd that @VCHhealthcare is actively discouraging doctors who test positive from contacting their patients and telling them about it. I know BCPH has decided to ignore Omicron, but to actively prevent doctors from protecting their patients seems needlessly cruel. #bcpoli

I suspect that in the coming years there will be a wave of class-action lawsuits focused on failures to prevent what is most definitively a predictable and preventable public health catastrophe. File this one under the "what did they know and when did they know it" category.

And she DARES to call it kindness. No, just no. Putting parents, friends, seniors, and kids at further risk isn't kindness; it's calculated cruelty, all for the mistaken belief that "normal" can exist amidst a dangerous pandemic.

Today, @jjhorgan lied about BC's poor pediatric vaccination rate, was called out on the lie, tried to claim that it didn't matter because BC isn't seeing "a lot of outbreaks" in K-12 (or that if it is, they're "mild"), and then told kids to wear a mask if they're uncomfortable.
