This is the book. The movie version plays daily on your TV, your Twitter feed, and the comments section of your personal Facebook page. And it's gruesome.
@RadioFreeTom
Lots of great causes & events these days, but
@BQQuinn
heard about our Vietnam vets breakfast and reached out to us offering to be a part of it. He did a great job of emceeing and made us proud he's a Staten Islander. Thank you Q and our Borough Hall team!
Today in Y6 we looked at poems that could be read forwards & backwards. I was stunned by this one written by one of my 10 year olds. Please share - I would love her work to be appreciated further afield. I wonder if it could even find a publisher?
I won’t be marching in Sunday's St. Patrick's Day parade. I wanted to, and thought I could reconcile my call for inclusion with still marching, but internally I cannot. No disrespect is intended towards anyone, including colleagues who will march.
I'm so fucking tired of hearing about fairness and equity and all the while seeing my borough treated as it has been by this Administration over the last three weeks. Chasing supplies, chasing communication about supplies...no medical staffing help. Fairest big city in country???
I'm making some BIG political news tonight!
The race to succeed me at Borough Hall is still 2 years away, but I know who I want Staten Island's next Borough President to be and it's time to say so publicly...
@JasonRazefsky
@jennifersam821
@BQQuinn
“It’s 7:10 AM, do you know where your Congressman is?”
Yeah, he’s with me at Miller Field meeting with the National Park Service to try to save the kids’ soccer season.
@MaxRose4NY
"Fucking awesome" -- that's how someone who doesn't often use profanity just described to me the doctors, nurses, and health care staff at Staten Island University Hospital. Indeed. Thank you to all of your heroes at SIUH,
@RUMCSI
and hospitals across this city and nation.
I want Staten Island to know that
@GovKathyHochul
called me earlier. She knows our borough so she's well versed on some of the big challenges/issues. She made it clear her Administration is here to help. I very much appreciate the outreach.
For me, my call for inclusion needs to reinforced by my own action. I hope for a good parade this year, and will work towards a truly joyous, inclusive one in 2020 and beyond.
I was in City Hall when James Davis was assented and I can hear the gun shots in my head like it happened yesterday. I will take that sound and those emotions to my grave. What I am watching is insane.
181 Covid patients at SIUH. 5 more folks on respirators yesterday.
Staten Island is on a trajectory whereby soon SIUH will be forced to cancel essential health services again & Islanders will pay another heavy price down the line.
What will it take for the behavior to change?
Fauci for City Council
Fauci for Assembly
Fauci for State Senate
Fauci for Borough President
Fauci for Mayor
Fauci for MLB Commissioner
Fauci for the WFAN Midday slot.
Rename your fantasy baseball teams "The Fauci's."
Seriously, let's be grateful for Dr. Fauci.
A huge shoutout to the
@WagnerCollege
Physician's Assistant students working at Staten Island's drive thru testing center. You have impressed your health care colleagues (who in turn told me) with your stellar work and you are an inspiration. Proud of you. Grateful to you!
As the son of of a "motorman" (now called train operators) -here's a pic of Pop at work-, as a local elected who often finds getting collaboration from city agencies difficult, from a partner in the SIM express bus redesign, THANK YOU Andy Byford. We wish you well.
@MTA
@NYCTBus
The St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Staten Island is a joy. I look forward to marching next month, and time has long since passed that we include the
@pridecenterSI
. What a unifying moment it would be for our borough to reach an accord and have all of SI enjoying this happy day.
In September a new school will open designed specifically to help kids w/ dyslexia, finally. It's a charter school. It's genesis was parents in my office crying for help. It was created only after we begged the DOE to help & they did jack diddly squat.
Thank you. Good morning. Please. Have a nice day. You're welcome. You can go ahead of me. How are you? Take care. Excuse me. Be well. I appreciate that. Can I help with that?
It's really not that hard.

My grandparents came to America from Sicily and settled in Brooklyn. My parents would become Brooklyn Dodger fans. In turn, my brothers & I were raised NY Mets fans. I often stare blankly into the distance wondering how different life would be had they first chosen The Bronx.
Maybe it's because somehow cable "news" shows are citing Francesa in political stories or it's just that I'm a bit punchy, but the bean grinder on my coffee machine sounds like

Walking to Whitehall Terminal and a dude takes a hard fall on slippery sidewalk. Another guy rushes over, helps him up. I brush off slush from his back. We walk to next crosswalk. “Take care,” I say. “Thank you, brother,” he replies. A simple, cool NYC moment.
For the 2nd time in my career today is my “last day” working at City Hall. The first time was in December 2013, having been part of the City Council for almost 23 years. This stay was only 16 months, but talk with anyone who has worked in the bullpen at City Hall and...
Just finished saying this same thing to
@amandafarinacci
. I won't gratuitously criticize anyone for making a decision grounded in safety concerns, but no doubt there are 40 professionals out there ready, willing, and able to do the work needed to make this tribute possible.
Update: I am coordinating with the head of the AFL-CIO NYC Central Labor Council. There are men and women who would be honored to do the work of presenting the Tribute in Lights at the World Trade Center. The
@Sept11Memorial
must rethink their decision.
@HeyNowJO
Dear Borough President Oddo,
This is my son’s drawing. It’s a tribute to our Heroes on the Frontline. He is planning on making prints to raise money to buy PPE. 💙
Ahh, fan mail.
This hero forgot to sign the note.
BTW, I was able to convince an intelligent, caring, funny, good, and beautiful woman to marry me...so there is hope for "ugly f8cks" everywhere.
I'm actively working on a show inspired by Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Drinking Coffee tentatively called Politicians in Pizza Joints Eating Pizza. I hope to get pols to join me at various pizza joints across Staten Island to talk pizza and then sit for a unique interview.
Every Farrell Man dreaded this day, but we knew it would come because Monsignor Whalen is so talented. He did a marvelous job at Farrell and will do great things in his new position. He is simply an outstanding human being.
OK, so the first one down the Shore this afternoon should open up the windows of the new house, air it out, assign bedrooms, and fill the fridge with beer & other household essentials (more beer)...OH GEEZ, that was a flashback from 30 years ago, I apologize you had to witness it
Come look in my mailbox and you will never again query why I don’t want to run for office again. The cesspool grows more disgusting each cycle. Shut the lights on the way out…
Hey
@keithhernandez
, I want to declare a Keith Hernandez Day on Staten Island & have celebration in your honor. What do you say? We'll give you a key to the Island (looks at staff: do we have a key to Island?), etc. Huge number of
@mets
& Keith fans here. Let's make this happen!
We need more of this!
Kudos to
@jimmymaxpizza
for sending complimentary food to unit 4C, the coronavirus staff at SIU North.
Moreover, every month owner James McBratney is donating 50% of the food bill to different schools and local organizations.
Order a meal or two...
A glimpse of just a part of yesterday. I want Staten Islanders to know the level of cooperation/communication happening with their elected officials. This is in addition to a rolling text thread where all of us are sharing and collaborating. Common ground. Common effort.
Our Borough Hall team greeted Andy Byford prior to our meeting in my office this morning. We appreciate it when we have genuine partners in government who want to work with us to improve our Island. Andy was that and more.
@NYCTBus
Hey
@NJGov
, let’s strike a deal.
@JoeBorelliNYC
and I will keep Staten Islanders off your beaches and you keep your commuters off our expressways and out of our park & rides. An exchange of Bennies for Commies (or is there a more endearing term?)
Since the coronavirus pandemic began, tensions have repeatedly flared over whether too many New York City residents have gone to nearby vacation areas. Now, the region appears on the brink of a full-fledged (and nasty) battle over beaches.
The most important infrastructure project Staten Island has seen in a long while. We have to get it done right. We have to get it done on time.
If you live along the East Shore, this is one meeting you really should attend.
Good job,
@MaxRose4NY
.
28 deaths on Staten Island. 7 more of our neighbors last night. Yet
@dianesavino
@StevenMatteo
& rest of my SI colleagues & I are getting reports of folks across Island ignoring all the warnings.
Talk to your families, demand more of those in your universe; stop this stupidity.
3 times last night the
@DaughterStPaul
moved me to tears with their glorious singing. So blessed to be able to share the moment with my mom, wife & 900 other joyful Staten Islanders. Rich and Lois Nicotra, you did it again. Simply one of the best nights on the calendar.
Last evening my cell rang with a 713 area code -- it was our new schools Chancellor
@HISD_Supe
. He was just touching base. He already knew a few of my educational priorities (good prep) & committed to visit Staten Is as soon as he's settled in. Very much appreciate his approach.
Actually, the biggest enemy of NYers is the bureaucracy and poorly run city agencies. The most direct way of improving the lives of 8 1/2 million NYers is to run the city better... that means better managed and an accountable delivery of city services...
The deaths have started on Staten Island and more will come. Just brutal. The best ally the virus has is stupidity and based on continued reports it is in far more supply than n95s. Please, talk to the obtuse in your lives and beg them to heed the rules.
Late Friday afternoon I met with Congressman-elect
@MaxRose4NY
. We committed to finding common ground on issues, including transportation, infrastructure, the opioid epidemic ,& storm recovery planning, We will collaborate wherever possible on behalf of Staten Island.
I have worked in and/or been coming to City Hall for work for nearly 30 years and only now am I realizing we feature a portrait of Squiggy.
But is there a “Lenny?”
@MJMcKean
(Remembering David L Lander)
@DavidPSamson
A year ago I tweeted this as I watched the disgrace playing out before our eyes at the Capitol.
No justifying it.
No transforming it.
No sanitizing it.
No revising history.
I was in City Hall when James Davis was assented and I can hear the gun shots in my head like it happened yesterday. I will take that sound and those emotions to my grave. What I am watching is insane.
All Staten Island electeds are participating on a (at least) daily conference call and we have a running text thread to allow all us to communicate with each other simultaneously and collectively share information. Common ground, common effort.
"The fastest blue-line path to a better world isn't economic growth or a better fucking phone, but more of us becoming irrationally passionate about the well-being of a child who isn't our own." --

*Irrationally passionate.*
I love it!
You gotta love the "I moved here from another borough & I am not happy about the overdevelopment" emails. And by "You gotta love" I mean you have to shake you head in amazement. Yeah, lady, they forgot to roll up the bridge after you moved here. Your neighbors love you too.
I worked with
@NYCTBus
@ATULocal726
on the SIM express redesign for 3 years…now I’m a customer. Life is funny sometimes.
A hat tip to all the bus operators on the SIM 1 route. Thanks for getting me home each night.
The Governor is enlisting celebrities to urge NYers to stay home during this crisis. We decided to undertake a Staten Island version of his
#NewYorkStateStrongerTogether
.
First up is our old friend Lou Tobacco.
There is an “I" in Staten Island, but today, let’s be “we."
The City Council should pass legislation empowering me to rescind unilaterally 5,000 driver's licenses a year based on my personal observation of reckless/negligent/dumb driving. Consider it SI's contribution to "breaking the car culture."
SI driving: brutal & getting worse.
I don't know if it's New York thing, an Italian-American thing, or what, but when
@NYGovCuomo
injects stories of his own personal family dynamics I find it familiar and in a way comforting.
I'm thankful on this Sunday morning -- 6 months into our term -- to
@NYCMayor
for the chance to be a part of this team, to DM Meera Joshi, from whom I learn every day, and to my new colleagues on DMO, in the bullpen and at City Hall, whose commitment and skills are remarkable.
Last week I spoke my heart in wanting to see SI's St Patrick's Day parade be inclusive. Others have done the same, including our local paper. It's now time for Staten Islanders to speak up tool. Biz leaders, residents, make ur voices heard.
@pridecenterSI
You want "to improve the city’s ferries without scrapping them" and "increase overall ridership?" How about offering this service to more communities devoid of other transit options and who are desperate for another commuting mode?
I have an entire borough for you.
"Normally, I'd say keep your 'thoughts & prayers' and just send kibble, but my humans have me going for eye surgery this morning as part of the plan to slow down my loss of eyesight. I'm only 1 so this really sucks. Send me good doggie vibes, OK? Thanks." -- Jocko da Pug
Just 2 guys with their wonderful (and patient) wives having a beer at Lee’s on a Saturday night...talking SIM express bus redesign.
@NYCTBus
@ATULocal726
The Governor is now calling out the Dumb AF out there violating all warnings and endangering all New Yorkers. Or are they the Selfish AF? No, no, it's Dumb AF.
I have different relationships with my SI elected officials colleagues. Some are extremely close, some not. But I want the people of SI to know just how closely they've been working together. This is going to be a long haul & the mantra has been "common ground, common effort."
I’ve watched the show for years, visited OCC a few times, and so when I found myself in Montgomery, NY I HAD to stop by. Lots of fun seeing these bikes in person. Well done,
@WhereIsPaulJr
We have another chance this year to have that genuinely unifying moment by welcoming the
@pridecenterSI
into Staten Island's St. Patrick's Day Parade. With all the division sowed around us these days, this would be so powerful.
