I’m excited and honored to work for the people New York as Director of State Operations. I’ve spent my career serving New Yorkers and I want to thank
@GovKathyHochul
for the opportunity to continue that service.
Now, let’s go get things done.
Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul will break the glass ceiling by becoming New York’s first female governor. A historic moment for our state and for all the women and girls who will see themselves represented at the highest level for the first time.
I want to thank Maya for standing up for Rank Choice Voting. Throughout this campaign she has never hesitated to fight for what she believes in. At every debate and every turn of this historic race it’s been an honor to share the stage with other strong women.
"It is Kathryn Garcia who best understands how to get NY back on its feet and has the temperament and experience to do so. Ms. Garcia has our endorsement in the most consequential mayoral contest in a generation."
Humbled & honored. Let's go get it done.
This morning, standing by the Women’s Rights Pioneers Monument in Central Park, I conceded this hard-fought, razor-thin race. Eric Adams will be the Democratic nominee and I look forward to supporting him in the general. To everyone who believed in this campaign: Thank you.
Having pumped water out of our tunnels during Superstorm Sandy, I know extreme weather events like these won’t just go away. We must invest in resiliency strategies now to protect our city and keep New Yorkers safe. Climate change is an urgent crisis.
👋If you love the electric sanitation truck program that yours truly put in place as
@NYCSanitation
Commissioner, then you’ll really love my plan for city electric grid improvements, so I can electrify our school and city buses next.
Running for office is not easy. While there are still many votes to be counted, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the entire field of candidates - especially the women who ran.
Love this! When I’m mayor, we will:
🚲Add 250 mi of connected, protected bike lanes
🚲Maintain the lanes we already have (yes, I’m talking major multihog procurement)
🚲Better integrate
@CitiBikeNYC
into our transit network + subsidize expansion into underserved communities
🚨BREAKING🚨
@CitiBikeNYC
smashed its all time record for rides in a single day set last September with 106,838 rides yesterday. Bike boom is here to stay and keeps growing! 🚲🚲🚲
A lot of people said this couldn’t be done, but I’ll be here for all NYers and that’s what this campaign is about. The poll that matters most is on June 22nd — let’s do this and make this government work for everyone.
During COVID I delivered a million meals a day, while Eric Adams wrote a cookbook. That’s the difference between a crisis manager and a politician. Proud of the program we built and the 230 million meals delivered to hungry NYers.
Vegetarian
@ericadamsfornyc
hits
@KGforNYC
for sending chicken nuggets to people who needed food during COVID crisis. He say she fed them the food that created their comorbidities.
I have always stood by the compost community and always will. When I’m mayor I will immediately restore the nation’s largest composting program and reopen our composting sites. We can’t afford to go backwards, go slowly or continue to perpetrate environmental injustice.
Today
@BOENYC
is set to release the first, preliminary round of RCV results. This will give us a snapshot – a fuller but still incomplete picture of the final results. This race isn't over & there are still 124K+ absentee ballots to count. Let's be patient. Democracy is worth it.
Even with today’s RCV report we are still waiting for over 120K absentee ballots to be counted and we are confident about a path to victory.
I'll be saying more about what these preliminary results mean in just a few mins.
You can tune in here:
Secure bike parking is a critical yet scarce utility in NYC, but it shouldn’t be. We must expand bike parking to keep up with increasing need, particularly in low income neighborhoods and neighborhoods of color that have for far too long been neglected by our elected officials.
Incredibly proud to celebrate my daughter Anna’s graduation from the University of Wisconsin (my own alma mater!)
#GoBadgers
I am one proud mom and feel very lucky to be able to be with her to celebrate this big achievement🎓
Rules to live by: Never bet against New Yorkers and never count out the underdog (especially not a Brooklynite). The
@nytimes
Editorial Board is with us.
Are you?
I was born in Brooklyn. I raised my kids there too. I’ve been in public service in NYC for the past decade and a half.
I know this city.
I know this job.
I’m ready now.
And to
@AndrewYang
, campaigning together these past few days proved that even when you don’t agree on everything, you can still come together (and have fun doing it).
Clean streets are non-negotiable. Our budget is our values: when we scrimp on street cleaning, trash and recycling services, we are doing long term damage to New Yorkers and our city. As Mayor I will implement the programs that I know we need to get garbage off the curb.
Saba's kosher pizza was vandalized yesterday. The recent rise in anti-Semitic, anti-Asian, and anti-Black violence must end. New York City needs to be safe for everyone, full stop. Support Saba's at their brick & mortar (403 Amsterdam Ave) or online at .
As we celebrate the 4th of July today amidst a historic election for NYC, I want to take a moment to highlight an important win for our Democracy, the women who look poised to become the first majority female City Council.
There’s more history to be made. 💪
For 14 years I've solved our city’s toughest crises.
We need the right leadership at City Hall so we can come back stronger than ever and get back to being NYC. I know how to build a safer, more affordable, more livable city.
Let’s break some glass, and get to work.
Running for Mayor is not always a love fest but it doesn’t have to be a slug fest.
Today I’m campaigning for ranked-choice voting. I want my voters to follow their preferences, and most importantly I hope New Yorkers use the power of their vote this weekend or on June 22.
We’ve had 400 years of men as mayors. It’s time for a progressive woman who has a track record to get things done.
Vote early today or on Tuesday, June 22.
Last night was amazing and I’m so proud of this campaign. Counting the Ranked Choice Votes will take time, but it’s worth the wait because this process expands your vote and your voice.
My goal is that in 4 years, when I'm mayor, New Yorkers will feel like they can comfortably raise their family here—that this city is affordable, livable, & a place where you are confident that your kids are going to really thrive. For me, that's what success looks like.
I’m honored to receive the endorsement from
@StreetsPAC
.
I’m at an unsafe intersection in Gowanus, BK.
As Mayor I’ll add at least 250 miles of connected, protected bike lanes across the city.
I’m proud to accept the endorsement of
@StreetsPAC
: an organization dedicated to improving the safety, mobility and livability of one of NYC's greatest assets: our streets.
More bike lanes, open streets, a strong bus system: As Mayor, I will transform our streetscape.
We're excited today to endorse Kathryn Garcia to be New York City's next Mayor!
@KGforNYC
is a proven leader with a plan to transform the city's streets and the ability to implement it.
1/5 How did the U.S. government turn into one giant DMV? Read
@annielowrey
on the “time tax”—“a levy of paperwork, aggravation, and mental effort imposed on citizens in exchange for benefits that putatively exist to help them”:
I'm proud to announce that our campaign has exceeded the threshold to unlock matching funds. Today is just the beginning and together, we will take this fight for a more sustainable, equitable city all the way to election day. Team Garcia: Thank you. Now let's go get this done.
NEW POLL of likely NYC Dem primary voters (n=822, 6/11-14): Adams, Garcia & Wiley all within 4 points in 1st choice rankings
#NYCMayoralRace
Adams: 23
Garcia: 19
Wiley: 19
Garcia defeats Adams 51-49 in final round of RCV simulation thanks to strong 2nd & 3rd choice rankings.
Earlier today at Kings County Family Court, I released
#FamilyFirst
: a plan to reform + repair NYC’s foster care system ()
This plan is personal. Every kid deserves a forever home. I'm running for mayor to create a City with more families like mine.
This campaign came closer than any other to electing our first woman mayor. I know that day will come soon. To my fellow women: Run. I support you. I stand with you. And I will help in any way I can.
INBOX:
@AndrewYang
is halting in-person campaign events after a staffer tests positive for Covid.
Yang has tested negative but will quarantine for 8 days, his campaign says
Excited to announce that we’ve reached the maximum public matching funds!
In just 6 months, we’ve exceeded the fundraising pace of lifelong politicians – some of whom have been fundraising for years.
This is about experience: When you look at the borough president, he runs a hundred-person shop. I've run a 10,000-person shop and delivered services to New Yorkers, every day.
New York should do the same. Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is about moving the the cost burden from the individual consumer to the companies who create the waste in the first place. The State legislature must get this done.
New Yorkers don’t need another politician. They deserve a public servant who will deliver on promises, and serve them tirelessly.
The most progressive thing we can do is make government work for everyone.
"The candidate best equipped to guide us through this difficult moment is Kathryn Garcia."
Proud to have the endorsement of the
@NYDailyNews
– New York's hometown newspaper. I love this city more than anything and I am ready to get to work.
Proud to stand with my fellow candidates to call for the next debate to be held safely in person. It's what New Yorkers deserve and there's too much at stake to do otherwise.
On the subject of families, here's a fun one from the archives. A few years after I was adopted, my parents adopted my big sister Elizabeth. She was my idol – if you couldn't tell.
Public safety for subways and all of New York is at the center of my vision for the city.
I’m joined by actor Clark Gregg to talk about my street and subway safety plan, because NYC can’t just be protected in the movies.
Watch here:
We need permanent open streets every day of the week! Had a wonderful afternoon on the UWS at the Street Arts

celebration. Loved running into some familiar faces, too!

This campaign – and the campaigns of my fellow women candidates – proved that you don't need the backing of the political establishment to compete. And that determined women are a force to be reckoned with.
Election Day is tomorrow.
Your vote has power. Especially if you rank the maximum 5 candidates. I hope you choose to use your voice to shape the future of our city ✅
Serving this city for the past 15 years has been the greatest honor of my life & I have no plans to stop now. I intend to keep fighting for a more just foster care system — and I will keep showing up, as I always have, to serve New Yorkers in this next chapter. Onward!
Well since the
@nytimes
outed my moment of teenage rebellion to see Prince, my team definitely needs to add these classics to our playlist:
When Doves Cry
Purple Rain
Little Red Corvette
1999
The Beautiful Ones
So I did something a little different this morning. Celebrated the summer solstice in
@TimesSquareNYC
with sunrise yoga. Fun challenge to find peace in such a traditionally bustling neighborhood (though I must admit, I’m not as bendy as I used to be).
How to elect the first woman mayor of NYC:
1⃣Find your polling site:
2⃣Rank me as your 1st choice
3⃣Tell your friends & family to do the same
Let's win this.
We can be a city that addresses climate change head-on, where you can afford to raise a family, and where everyone feels safe. That's my vision, and I'll be a mayor who gets it done.
So excited to early vote with 3 generations of BK women for
@KathyHochul
. She’s fighting to protect our families and have them thrive. Your vote matters!
After 6 months on the campaign trail I can earnestly say that every borough should be very proud of their pies. I'm also feeling like I should just perpetually be on a
#5BoroughPizzaTour
, campaign or no.
Today I was asked to describe my platform in one sentence (great question, btw). My answer: “Make our city more affordable, more livable and take big, bold action to combat climate change.” Check out my policy page for a few more sentences:
I’ve relied on NYC public transit my entire life; I know just how essential safe, clean transit is.
A Garcia admin will:
🚲 Connect the protected bike lane & add 250 mi
🚶Make Open Streets permanent
🚇 Create 1-swipe in-city network
@LIRR
@MetroNorth
🚎 Prioritize new busways
Today, I’m proud to accept the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters (
@nylcv
), the oldest and most committed environmental advocacy groups in the nation. Watch my remarks, live from NYCHA Astoria Houses on my IG:
Feeling very old, but gotta say, this must be the sweetest endorsement I've gotten to date. Miss this and now I'm thinking I should seriously consider bringing back those socks!
Extremely confident that
@KGforNYC
can manage this city if she was able to manage me when she was my babysitter. Also look at those incredible ‘80s socks.
Live from Moynihan Hall, I’m announcing my five borough plan to rebuild NYC’s economy, starting with urgently needed infrastructure projects (think: fixing the BQE). Watch live on my IG:
Public transportation is the heartbeat of NY, yet 79% of New Yorkers are concerned about safety on the subway. We *can* walk and chew gum––we can drive down crime, eliminate aggressive policing and connect folks struggling with mental illness to the treatment they need to thrive.
As a first time candidate who has not had years to fundraise, I’m beyond proud by what we’ve accomplished with hard work and amazing supporters.
We maxed out or matching funds and continue to have the highest percentage of donors living in NYC. Humbled.
I’m on Sunset Park’s Third Avenue, a notoriously dangerous stretch for cyclists, to commit to fully implementing
#NYC25X25
, to give the streets back to the people and strengthen bike safety, particularly in low-income neighborhoods long neglected by historic disinvestment.
Parks and green space are not a 'nice-to-have.' They are a must-have. And when I’m mayor, we will finally be able to say that 100% of New Yorkers have easy access to clean, safe, and green public parks and open spaces.
We want to make it easier for New Yorkers to choose biking, the cleanest form of transportation.
@StreetsPAC
endorsed me because I want to add 250 miles of safe bike lanes, and they know I'll get it done.
NY is my home. My parents adopted me as a baby & raised a big, multi-racial family in BK. This city has given me so much. I’m running for mayor to make sure all NYers have those same opportunities & more.
