If you are not vegan, I absolutely implore you to read Peter Singer's Animal Liberation. Very calm and sober analysis of factory farming and animal testing.

It's also much more likely to generate really gross pro-abuse arguments now. I'd guess this is because given the framing it takes it's basically writing what it believes antis think zoos think.

@KoiraPotes It depends on if we're talking about outcomes or actions It's possible for actions to be wrong even if no harm was caused if there was, for example, a very large chance of harm happening but you got lucky. But outcomes should be appraised on a pure harm v benefit basis. Voted no.

@fillthymutt @Chezetaki @WolfieZoo I'm also extremely hesitant to give much credit to individual pyo anecdotes as the base rate for pyo is very high (~25% lifetime risk). Very easy for coincidences to happen. Given that zoos are (rightfully) very fearful of pyo, this is the perfect condition for myths to start.

@Chezetaki @ZenaMOBrien5 I think this is against airline regulations in most countries, on the grounds that the dog might become a projectile during turbulence. There's a point there but the solution really should just be requiring the dog be secured by some kind of safety harness, not "no dogs in seats"

@RoxanaTheWolf This is going to be irritating to change because there is a superficially good reason for the ban: the dogs could go flying during turbulence. But the real solution is to require the dog be attached to the seat with a safety harness, not an outright ban...

@RealWorldZoo @tastytimes1 I mean, the dilemma here is, do they want to live? Like, they may not understand death in human terms, but humans have a very strong survival drive when pushed, and I'd expect most animals to share this. In a lot of cases assuming they want to die feels like a human projection.
