You can make that argument for traditional agriculture.
You really can't for factory farming, in which many cases the animals spend most of their lives essentially tortured. Very few would choose that life over not existing.

It's possible for actions to be wrong even if no harm was caused if there was, for example, a very large chance of harm happening but you got lucky.
But outcomes should be appraised on a pure harm v benefit basis. Voted no.

I'm also extremely hesitant to give much credit to individual pyo anecdotes as the base rate for pyo is very high (~25% lifetime risk). Very easy for coincidences to happen.
Given that zoos are (rightfully) very fearful of pyo, this is the perfect condition for myths to start.

I think this is against airline regulations in most countries, on the grounds that the dog might become a projectile during turbulence.

The fundamental issue is that farmers' economic interests are not aligned with their animals' interests. Even the local small-scale farmer is going to face economic pressure to increase efficiency, and efficiency tends to mean negligence or cruelty.

Yeah even if I could fly with them in the cabin I wouldn't want to fly with them unless it was actually necessary. Not just the safety risk, it would probably be uncomfortable and stressful for most dogs even if they're with me.

A significant majority of dogs worldwide are free-ranging and not owned in the modern sense. Most are strays/feral and capable of surviving without direct support from humans.
That's not necessarily the case for modern purebred dogs, but that's a new fuckup.

dairy > beef >> pork >> poultry > eggs
