Comms + strategy leader, dog mama, Kentucky Wildcats fan. "If we live our lives the right way, every single thing we do can become a work of art.” She/her
@JessupShannon
Good for you, mama! I wish my parents had done this for me. I was the same as your son - kept it all together at school and then lost it at home. I have lived my whole life worried that no one thought me worthy of protecting. This stuff isn’t small. At all.
@BlondeHistorian
I believe you, Amy. I know that doesn’t mean much coming from an Internet strangers#, but both of these sound troubling and I am sure are exhausting. I am pleased to see folks chiming in with reassurance, though it doesn’t drown out those who make excuses.
my post-art plan is opening a grilled cheese cart. it will serve $1 grilled cheese made with white bread, bulk cheese, bulk butter, and thats it. greasy as hell. no options, no artisan, nothing. there will be no change. you give me $5 youre getting 5, you figure your own life out
@SxarletRed
Until every employee of every restaurant and news stand in the airport has to do the exact same screening as travelers EVERY TIME, every day, I will continue to believe it’s all theater.
@_ElizabethMay
@AITA_reddit
Amen. And also, are we SURE that he is the one who is uncomfortable? I have a sneaking feeling he is the excuse being used but I’m not sure I think he’s really has any issue here.
@JBsTwoCents
That Dunkin employee is doing the Lord’s work. You deserve those donuts! Also, Dunkies should do a campaign with Mia. How hilarious would she be in one of those Affleck/Damon track suits?
@ask_aubry
The r*pe part is awful in every way. But the fact that they have kids together is perhaps the worst part for me. When I got to the part where he talks about her being a good mom - hoo boy. Their kids may have been sleeping in the next room while he did this. I want to 🤮.
@sicksicksickx
If you are sitting nearby and don’t offer help, you’re a jerk. Also goes for being near a mom trying to board with kid(s) plus stuff. No matter how well prepared mom (or dad) is, an extra pair of hands from someone is almost always welcome.
@ballerbrittt
@Chewy
is amazing! They refunded us for unused prescriptions for our dog who passed in 2022, sent us a memorial ornament with his name, and a hand-signed card.
@anthonyocampo
Literally have said to family members these exact words: “The only comment on my body (or anyone else’s) that is ever acceptable is, ‘You look lovely.’ If you can’t or don’t want to say that, then say NOTHING.”
@aidThompsin
And also, WHERE ARE THE KIDS? I haven’t seen this mentioned a lot, but some reports say the kids aren’t going to school for fear they will reveal something, so they are being taught at home.
@SydJames__
I tell my students that as long as it’s posted by the time I wake up in the morning, there is NOTHING to worry about. And I also tell them that I don’t wake up early!
@coffeespoonie
@MadLibrarySci
Thanks for offering word choices that make it easy for everyone to know what to say so that we can speak up clearly and helpfully. We all own responsibility for helping those around us.
@Nicole_Cliffe
+100 Dude I dated didn't ask after me for 4 wks post brain surgery. He KNEW I was going in for it - he propositioned me for "just in case you die" noogie the night B4 I was admitted to hospital. Then took him a month to call. Uncool.
@BeeBabs
@theashleyray
I have seen all the episodes of the new season. I feel like this guy *really* learned and grew a lot during the course of the episodes. But yeah - this starting point was very rough.
@ShannonDingle
@LoLoPatriot85
@ColoradoOhio
Thank you for this response, Shannon. I was raised very pro life with no exceptions. Your story helped me understand circumstances beyond what I could imagine and realize that choices are critical. And not to judge. Hoping others who see this can recalibrate their own thinking.
@kiernanshipka
My mom was drinking a spiked seltzer yesterday with her breakfast. I was thinking: “Go on, Pat!” Then she said, “I need to see if they carry these at Aldi,” and I realized she thought it was just canned seltzer.
@humblecore
@thebestjasmine
Yeah - the only answer is, “Let me sort this out right away.” The lack of planning is terrible but solving the problem quickly is the best outcome on the day.
@emilykmay
Yup - pretty much every influencer/content creator I know is shilling 24/7 and most of it is supplements + wellness junk, skin care, and ill-fitting clothing hauls. I don’t understand how this industry has continued as long as it has.
@KyleTucker_ATH
It really is horrible. I knew I hated MB but somehow, I missed this piece of his history. Why this wasn’t reported broadly when it happened is beyond me. Wherever this kid is, I hope he has found a family who truly supports and loves him.
@ErynnBrook
I remember being physically sick because of the nerves and being afraid to tell anyone or call my mom. Because I had called in situations like that before and she had insisted I stay and “tough it out.” She loved me but I didn’t get all the tools to stand up for myself.
@ErynnBrook
This is a amazing story and your mum had a lot of courage to not only teach you to stand up for yourself but also to not allow others to shame you for doing so. I remember one slumber party as a child while I wanted so badly to go home and could not.
@BtSquared2
And I promise you, that is a woman who knows how to get stuff done, can understand + navigate complex systems, and does so without ticking off the wrong folks. Hire that woman - she has skills!
@thebestjasmine
SO TIRED. And the DISHES -- my god, the dishes! I am so grateful for food, shelter and love during this time, but the dishes are making me weary.
@yrfatfriend
@hugseverycat0
@ptboat67
@USATODAY
Yeah - this is not targeting manspreaders. This is not at all about courtesy - it’s about targeting people who don’t fit a certain body type. It’s awful and they should be ashamed. And A LOT more people should be speaking up and saying so!
@hannastasia
@ZeroSuitCamus
The fact that I remembered the songs for this scene AND the dancing scene AND that I remembered that he could do 16 turns but did 11 on film because he wanted them to be tight and fast. This movie occupies a space inside gen x lady brains and when he appeared on SATC - magic.
@AGoldmund
My last name is Weedman. I was called weed-eater, weed-wacker, weedwoman, and weedy. I have heard every joke about 4:20, MaryJane, The Big Lebowski and every iteration of getting high. Every time I meet someone, they think they have a new joke. Nope - I have heard them all!
@emilykmay
I saw the video and thought the same. I have a family member who is on the spectrum + is non-verbal. The woman was very patient. I give her all the credit in the world for her approach. Folks like me who haven’t walked in her shoes need not comment on her abilities as a parent.
@jkylemann
@KySportsRadio
But they won’t. They let their fans be horrible to players, coaches and fans and don’t ever hold them to any kind of standard.
@TheeMaryWilson
@EverywhereErica
Yes! Also, investing time in identifying talented candidates of color and not just waiting for them to apply. And perhaps starting or participating in mentoring programs inside a diverse array of colleges, universities, and organizations.
@ShannonDingle
Look at her sweet smile! Gosh-oh-gosh she deserves a moment with those medals around her neck... here’s to her and all the young ones who shine so brightly when they work hard at something they also love. Good on her!
@ShannonDingle
I saw one of those posts this morning. Just rolled my eyes. Trick-or-treating with more than one kid = tough. When you're navigating several littles and managing mobility/comfort for them all, I can't imagine. And doing so with chronic pain + grief? You are my superhero.
@MonicaHesse
@kernie12
I have a friend who joined a motorcycle club and the initiates (pledges, if you will) carry first aid supplies, including period supplies, at all times. I can’t imagine it happening when I was growing up but I’m glad it’s a positive now!
@rachsyme
Did you catch the video of Rachel Hollis speaking at one of the LLR conventions? A huge part of her fame is from speaking at MLM conferences. Which is yikes atop yikes.
@SuzeMorrison
This happened to me as a kid and was horrifying. I remember being ordered to stand in an open area, put my arms down and “don’t touch the hem of your skirt to pull on it.” It was a male principle and it was awful. He made my mother bring me different clothes and wrote me up.
@sheologian
Even a house like this 45 min from downtown Raleigh would be *at least* $400,000. Probably much more. And inside the beltline? Forget it. This house would get bought, bulldozed, and a mansion built on the land.
@kelkord
I think I remember that he picked her up from her high school for dates/weekends out of town. It’s always bugged me that folks conveniently forget all about this.
@sheologian
@Liz_Wheeler
Thank you, Sheo, for saying this. Kids weren’t possible for us and we don’t consider it sad at all. We have a full and happy life.
@Nicole_Cliffe
Any good wording for when someone calls partner “husband” - assuming we are married when we aren’t? I usually say, “We aren’t married - just shackin’ up” but maybe that’s tacky.
@SrirachaCupcake
@AITA_reddit
When *followed* their rules *might* prevent stuff like this from happening. I think that's part of the issue here -- the restaurant didn't follow some accessibility basic best practices.
@Caffienekitty
@coffeespoonie
I realized last week that my office is not even close to compliant. I’m recovering from foot surgery and using a knee scooter. There’s 100% no way I could open doors or clear thresholds to get in/out. I will be reporting to our facility person first thing when I am back at work.
@CaitCamelia
@meghantonjes
On a plane last week, waiting to de-plane. Guy comes up the aisle to use lavatory. He put both hands on my torso and tried to move me to the side even though there was NOWHERE TO GO. I turned around and said, “Whoa! Hands off, there!” - dude doubled down and pushed me harder.
@MommaDCI
Oh yeah - I heard it. And hated every word. Not cool,
@FloMarching
. If your commentators can’t respect all corps members, you need new commentators.
@blgtylr
Also, as a corporate executive comms person, this kind of document is extremely common. Cannot count the number of times I’ve advanced a speaking engagement and taken photos, notes, etc to brief my exec.
@ShannonDingle
@esoxbox
I’m 40-something and have only come to this realization very recently. Your frankness and honesty *are* jarring. It has helped me wake up to the ways many of us - women, especially - were raised and conditioned to “be nice.” I have grown to appreciate your refusal to conform.
@broskivafli
Also, if we haven’t been able to hold individual corps accountable for something as simple as background checks for staff members, how ON EARTH can we expect compliance around vaccines, maintaining bubbles, etc. I 100% agree - this all seems very premature.
@goldthought
@LEBassett
@liberalvixen
It exists! It’s an app for your phone, tells you the best times to go and gives a quick synopsis of what happened while you were gone. There’s a timer you start at the beginning and the app will buzz when a pee time is coming up. It’s brilliant!
@MichKJ
@AnneWheaton
Amen. Even loved ones commenting on weight can be cruel. I had to tell a family member recently that no heavy person is ever unaware of it. Having a thin family member comment can be just as cruel as a stranger and just as poorly-intentioned.
@emilykmay
I clocked this, too, and loved it. I cannot stand the clean house expectation always landing on women in hetero relationships - both with and without kids. I love that he takes ownership!
@ShannonDingle
Can you please re-share the link to your Amazon list? I am very fortunate that a big client is paying their invoice tomorrow. Now feels like a great time to lend a hand and offer some cheer at a time that can be scary.
@MoldyWarp
@RottenInDenmark
My father (who died from dementia last year) had this exact posture toward the end of his life. I never realized until recently that it’s a sign of dementia - I just assumed his back hurt and he didn’t have the vocabulary to tell us. Very concerning that 45 stands this way.
@queersocialism
As a professor, I do not ask for a doctor's note. It's none of my business! University policy states that students have to provide one to get an excused absence. I just ask my students to let me know so that I can *help* them stay caught up.
@TriciaNadolny
Thank you for another clear and detailed story that does more to hold drumcorps accountable than
@DCI
. Everyone who loves this community also appreciates your hard work to shine a light on what’s happening. Much appreciated!
@ShannonDingle
If you enjoy podcasts at all, there’s a great episode of
@yourewrongabout
that gives backstory about how she came to testify and the fact that she never “came forward.” Really enlightening. I remember that time but the podcast helped me understand what really happened.
@ShannonDingle
I know it’s besides the point but you have the cutest kids! I also love the color coordination in this photo - masterful. But above all, I hope you and your kids remain safe and as healthy as possible!
@MommaDCI
She called him out for the sexist comment, thankfully. But someone needs to coach him about that kind of talk. NOT ok at all. Every kid out there works hard and you can’t tell me that all male corps work harder just because they are all male. That’s horseshit.
Hey
@TheCadets
- y’all sick of these yet? ‘Cause I have a huge box of them I’ll totally bring when I see you Saturday. Lemme know if I should load them up or no. Cool? Thanks!
#ZebraCakeBand
@coldhealing
I know a lot of folks who have hiked the whole AT. For most, nothing profound came from the experience, but they all said it teaches you a lot about resilience. And also, not a single person finished with all of their toenails intact. 😬 Just sayin!
@lemonmerandpie
Looks like Cavies took the post down but if they’re going to do that, how about an apology and a new post with corrected pronouns? It’s just not that hard. Come on!
@sheologian
I 100% refuse to participate in workplace “wellness” programs because I think they are incentives for everyone to be thin or get thin because most doctors think thinness is the cure for most ailments. Which is horse shit.
@ShannonDingle
And I know joy is likely hard to come by since you lost Lee but this photo does show joy on your faces. Which you all deserve. I never met him (or y’all) but I have to believe he is proud of you all.
@showdayblog
And the WHOLE organization is relearning what it means to be unified as well as safe. Every person who loves this corps is learning this year, whether we wear the uniform or cheer loudly as they perform. THAT is unity.
@adam22
There are so many people who are young in their careers who know things I don't - even about the industry I've been in for 20+ years. I *love* having them on the team. I share with them and learn from them. I believe they deserve a paycheck for what they bring to our team. 2/2
