Not sure how being over-engineered is much of a flaw. They add almost nothing to the BOM of your average appliance, and theyโre really sturdy. Better over- than under-engineered where safety critical systems are concerned.

Same in the UK, tap water is free. Licensed businesses (i.e. those that sell alcohol) are legally required to provide drinkable water for free, although they can charge for the use of a glass or the service (but in practice nowhere does if youโre actually buying anything else).

You need to treat even a lone cyclist pulled right in as if they were a car for the purposes of overtaking (see Highway Code link and image). Whether they form single file or not makes no difference โ you still need clear visibility of no oncoming traffic.

Purely on the liability point, I very much doubt thatโs true โ if you were expressing the opinion that they *should* be thatโs different. But when faced with an obstruction, even an illegal one, the onus is on the road user to wait for a safe gap in oncoming traffic.

Lots of people saying the car had room to overtake if Jeremy hadnโt moved out: this is quite wrong, drivers are expected to overtake a cyclist giving the same space as if they were a car (rule 163) and clearly this is not possible where the road is narrow.

Based on my experience, cyclists are more likely than drivers to treat red lights as advisory rather than mandatory. I wouldnโt say itโs a majority of either group who run them, but Iโm confident the proportion of cyclists who do is significantly higher than that of drivers.
