Wrong on a number of levels Just one-third of our electricity comes from burning fossil fuels With our current generation mix, EVs produce 3x less lifetime CO2 than petrols (and yes, that includes manufacture) Rises to 4x less by 2030 as our grid gets even cleaner

Did some number crunching which has landed in the papers, which is nice Basically we’ve worked out that the drivers of new petrol cars will pay a £700 ‘petrol premium’ every year (or £10k over car’s lifetime) compared to #ElectricVehicles

More remarkable negative #electricvehicles coverage in @TheSun 'Expert' says you SHOULD NOT BUY AN EV as DRIVERS HATE THEM No real facts provided to back that up So let me fill the void - RAC found that 90% of EV drivers would never go back to petrol

A reminder that the battery in an EV can power a house for days Which means keeping the interior warm whilst stuck in a snowstorm is water off an EV’s back

EVs often criticised for the minerals that need to be extracted to build their batteries But 95% of an EV's battery can be recycled So those minerals get extracted once, and that's it So much smaller environmental impact that some people like to claim

Battery recycling shatters the myth of electric-vehicle waste EV battery recycling is already profitable and capable of recovering more than 95% of the key minerals

A reminder that every petrol car burns 12.5 tons of the earth's resources over its lifetime An EV, meanwhile, is increasingly powered by renewables So no, EVs are not "far heavier on the planets resources" Quite the opposite in fact

@colinwalker79 Cars have always been recycled Have you ever been to a scrapyard? EVs are far heavier on the planet's resources

Data from the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, the US' National Transport Safety Board, and the Australian Government's EV FireSafe show electric vehicles are far LESS likely to catch fire than petrol and diesel vehicles, @colinwalker79 tells @nickdebois . @ECIU_UK | @TalkTV

A slightly strange anti-EV article by William Sitwell in the @Telegraph Authour seems to be of the opinion that EVs are no good for country dwellers, and are just for trendy 'eco warrior urbanites' A thread

More Electric Vehicles sold in the UK than any other country in Europe Market share is middling, but this reality does rather undermine the claims of those who say no one wants EVs

New figures from @ACEA_auto have the UK selling the highest volume of BEVs in the first quarter of 2024 in Europe. So much for EV demand stalling. There were over 84,000 BEVs sold in Q1, a 10% increase on Q1 2023 and sales were higher than in France and Germany.

Common misunderstanding of ULEZ Its not there to tackle climate change, its there to tackle air quality Which is why many diesels are non-complaint They may produce less CO2 (good for tackling climate change) But they produce more particulates and NO2 (bad for air quality)

So if the article's authour is so concerned by the supposed impact of increasing vehicle weight on pothole formation, why does his headline only focus on EVs and not SUVs? I'll let you draw your own conclusions as to why that might be
