In the 2019 General Election, I was honoured to stand as
@UKLabour
's Parliamentary Candidate.
Now, I am standing to be selected as candidate for my home seat, once again.
I am the only one capable of winning Southend West and Leigh, and delivering Southend's first Labour MP. 🌹
Huge news for the
@WASPI_Campaign
!
The Government has dragged its heels on this for years, and as a direct result, many many women have since died without seeing justice. The WASPI women have provided damning evidence!
We need fair compensation, and we need it fast.
I will never walk passed the
@solent_waspi
campaign without renewing my complete and unwavering support in their fight. These women have been totally mistreated, and what they are asking for is more than fair.
It's time to see
@UKLabour
back it in policy. 🌹
After years of campaigning, the tireless
@WASPI_Campaign
women will today finally see the publication of the Parliamentary Health Service Ombudsman's report into their injustice.
Within hours of the Prime Minister calling a General Election, I was already out on the doorsteps, campaigning for historic
@UKLabour
victories in Southend-on-Sea. 🌹🚪 🌊⛱️
I am ready for this fight!

It's an injustice, the Government were too slow to tell women that they would be affected by the rising state pension age. These women deserve recompense and many simply cannot wait any longer. We must continue to call on the Government to agree fair and adequate compensation. ✊🏻
Renewed hope for the
@solent_waspi
- Women Against State Pension Inequality Campaign as a new report from the All-Party Parliamentary Group backs the idea that victims should receive compensation for maladministration.
📣🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨📣
I have put a motion in support of Electoral Reform to
@SouthendCityC
Council. ✏️❌🗳
The motion, which is Seconded by my
@SouthendLabour
colleague
@CllrDent
, makes the case for changing our Parliamentary electoral system.
I thank the Prime Minister for waiting for me to get back to the country before calling the General Election.
I am ready for this fight. I have by far the biggest local profile of any candidate standing for this seat. Everybody knows me and my dedication to the local community.
This long-awaited report examines how women born in the 1950s were affected by the sudden increase to their retirement age.
Millions of women suffered terribly. They were not warned about the rise ahead of time. I have always believed that they should receive fair compensation.
A real pleasure to attend this afternoon's flag raising for the
@WaspiSEEssex
Campaign, as part of International Women's Day. 🐝🟣
These women are the victims of a great injustice. They deserve recompense and simply cannot afford to wait for it any longer. ✊🏻
📣 My statement following the
@UKLabour
Party's announcement that
@DavidBSampson
has been chosen as Parliamentary Candidate for Southend West and Leigh. 📣
It is Time for Change! 🌹
Delighted to have bumped into the
@MakeVotesMatter
campaign out in Uxbridge yesterday.
I have been a lifelong campaigner for Proportional Representation, so it was great to hear what they had to say on electoral reform. ✏️✖️🗳
I have been a proud supporter and advocate for the
@WASPI_Campaign
(Women Against State Pension Inequality) since 2019. It was great to meet with local
@WaspiSEEssex
co-ordinators, Frances Neil and Deborah Dalton, yesterday to reaffirm my commitments. 🌹🐝
Today is
@Southend_Pride
! Every year, this festival is a wonderful celebration of our city's diversity and inclusivity.
I want to live in a society that is respectful of all people.

Labour GAIN 🌹 Handforth South following Independent, Brian "you have no authority here" Tolver's resignation from the Parish Council.
Well, it was promised.
📣 Southend Labour is now Selecting its Parliamentary Candidates for the upcoming General Election. 📣
I was born and raised in Southend West and Leigh. I live here, I work here, and I am an elected Councillor in the beating heart of our city. Southend is in my blood.
@UKLabour
has long supported
@WASPI_Campaign
women. Women born in the 1950s have suffered - and continue to suffer - financial and emotional hardship because of the lack of reasonable notice given by the Department of Work and Pensions to changes in their State Pension age.
An absolutely historic night for
@SouthendLabour
🌹 We won a record EIGHT seats in one night!
Hearty congratulations to all our winning candidates, but especially to our newly elected Councillors: Lydia Hyde, Kathy Murphy, Mandy O'Connor, and Maxine Sadza.

It is not fair that women across Southend-on-Sea had the goalposts changed without their knowledge, and
@WASPI_Campaign
women continue to die without ever getting to see justice. I believe that it is only right that they be compensated fairly and swiftly for their loss.
Is
@Anna_Firth
ashamed to be a
@Conservatives
now? Green branding, and not a single mention of her Party affiliation.
Surely, she doesn't think that the last 13 years of Tory failure might harm her chances for re-election...
Picking a Councillor by drawing straws is undemocratic at the best of times, but to also be elected on less than 25% of the vote at the same time...
What mandate to represent can possibly exist here? 🗳
@Labour4PR
@electoralreform
@MakeVotesMatter
Great to see the mellifluous Frances Neil of
@WaspiSEEssex
on
@BBCNewsnight
yesterday.
@WASPI_Campaign
women have suffered for far too long. I personally believe that their injustice deserve fair compensation.
1 WASPI woman dies every 13 minutes. They cannot wait any longer! ⏱️
"I have actually suffered two delays, with no notice"
WASPI campaigner Frances Neil tells
#newsnight
she did not receive any notice to changes in the state pension age that impacted her retirement plans.
Proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the 'Looking after Leigh' campaign again today. ✊🏻
I was born and raised in Leigh-on-Sea. I live here, I work here, I have been here all my life. Leigh Town Council has always been a wonderful institution, fostering our local civic pride.
Under PR, MPs would better reflect the communities that they represent, which in turn, would lead to improved decision-making, wider participation, and increased levels of ownership of decisions taken.
So lovely to speak to
@DawnButlerBrent
. What an absolute wealth of knowledge, she is!
I'm already looking forward to the next Jamaica party at conference! 🇯🇲🍹
Great support from the members of the public whilst out on the
@ASLEFunion
picket line this morning! 🚂
After 22 months of stalemate, employers and the Government need to get around the table and start taking this industrial action seriously.
Fair resolution now! ✊🏻
If you are not angry, you are not paying attention. Our NHS is being systematically run into the ground.
The money that has been wasted on this ridiculous three month project, could have paid for four senior Doctors to work in our A&E Department for over a year.

I am absolutely delighted to see the Exit Polls' prediction this evening.
Even allowing for the wildest possible margin of error, it looks certain that the country will be waking up to a desperately needed
@UKLabour
Government.
Great to talk to
@Essex_Echo
about today's community action to save Leigh Community Centre. 🗞
I was born and raised in Leigh-on-Sea. I live here, I work here, I have been here all my life. Leigh Town Council has always been a wonderful institution, fostering local civic pride.
Incredible support in Leigh-on-Sea today, as part of
@UKLabour
's national campaign day fighting for the future of our national health service! 🌹🏥
I want the health service that I grew up knowing:
What a tremendous honour to be asked to return to my old school,
@DeanesSchool
, and deliver the commencement speech at their Excellence Awards ceremony. 🦌
It was so lovely to walk the corridors where I spent many years of my childhood...
What an electric demonstration! ⚡️
Teachers, university staff, rail and transport workers, posties, telecommunications workers, and civil servants all out in solidarity with one another this afternoon. ✊🏻
This week, a family in Southend-on-Sea won’t go hungry, thanks once again to the efforts of The Blue Boar 🔵🐗🍺 collecting for

I feel completely broadsided to learn of the sudden and totally unexpected passing of Josephine Melville.
I have only known Jo for a few years, but she quickly became a true friend. Few people are so committed to the preservation and celebration of heritage, art, and culture.
Tonights meeting of
@SouthendCityC
Council saw Councillors vote unanimously for
@CllrDent
's motion to secure the future of Southend United Football Club (

Proud to be Seconder to this one! The cultural cost of losing SUFC would be utterly devastating.
It is a real honour for me to have been re-elected as Chair of the
@SouthendLabour
Group of Councillors. 🪑🌹
It has been a privilege to hold the role this last year, and I am grateful that colleagues have placed their faith in me to serve them once again.
Fantastic reception on the doorsteps of Westborough and Chalkwell yesterday! 🚪🌹
Many thanks to
@SteveReedMP
and our other special guests who came to help us deliver
@UKLabour
victories for the residents of Southend.
Apologies to those who missed the photo! 📸
Tomorrow is Polling Day! ✏❌🗳
I'd like to wish the very best of luck to all
@UKLabour
Candidates standing for election, both in Southend-on-Sea and right across the country. 🌹
At last night's Annual General Meeting for Southend West & Leigh Labour Party, I was truly honoured to have been re-elected as the Business Liaison Officer (BuLO). 💼🌹
I have managed local businesses my entire adult life. For years, I felt like I was fighting a losing battle...
The
@IronWorksSOS
SAVED! 🎉🎊
After an enormous amount of hard work, and a phenomenal outpouring of support from the local community, The IronWorks has been saved! At least for now... ⏱️

Amazing to hear the case for Proportional Representation being made by
@UKLabour

of the 'A Different Bias' podcast.
I always have time for our hardworking firefighters. 👨🏼🚒🚒
Our comrades in the

I have to make special mention of
@ShahidSouthend
, who ran a truly spectacular election campaign. 🌹
He narrowly missed out on becoming the first Labour Councillor for Prittlewell in history, but nonetheless, his residents gave him a result with which he should truly be proud.
Our posties are only asking for what's fair. They deserve a decent pay rise. 📨

Today is Remembrance Sunday. Our city has lost a great many over the years, and I was honoured to lay wreaths both at the Southend-on-Sea war memorial and the St. Clement's church remembrance service in Leigh-on-Sea.
Heartiest of congratulations to
@BayoAlaba
for being selected as
@UKLabour
's Parliamentary Candidate for 'Southend East and Rochford' in the next General Election. 🌹✏️✖️🗳
After impersonating
@TheGreenParty
in her literature for the last year, it's interesting that
@Anna_Firth
and the
@Conservatives
now appear to have adopted
@UKLabour
's official colour scheme.
It's nice to see that the Tories agree with me, that the future of Southend is red! 🔴
Hunger doesn't wear club colours. Food banks shouldn't have to exist, but whilst they do, the overwhelming generousity of
@SUFCRootsHall
fans refuse to let people go hungry.
Everybody deserves to feed themselves and their family with dignity.
Thank you

The Good Friday Agreement stands among
@UKLabour
's proudest achievements.
It brought peace and prosperity to Northern Ireland, and remains a powerful reminder of the good that diplomacy can achieve. 🕊️
I'm delighted to be spending this Good Friday and Easter weekend in Belfast.
The breathtaking ignorance of
@Anna_Firth
genuinely never ceases to amaze me.
According to her, there is no reason for any Indian or Turkish people to claim asylum, because "British people go there on holiday".
📣 It's Small Business Saturday! 💼 📣
The polices that
@jreynoldsMP

Hearty congratulations to our good friends at
@StPauliOnSea
on their 2-1 victory over
@FarkeKnights
, in the first Southend Community Cup game tonight! 🏆⚽️ It was an excellent match to watch, both teams played brilliantly!
Sunken warship off of Southend Pier, the SS Richard Montgomery, is to be dismantled next year following a report which suggests that leaving the wreck in place could see the unexploded ordnance onboard cause "mass damage and loss of life".
I cannot tell you how excited I was to get a full tour of the
@rossiicecream
factory yesterday. 🍦
Born and raised in Southend-on-Sea, this genuinely was a childhood dream of mine.
As we make the final approach to Polling Day, I encourage residents to send the
@Conservatives

@SouthendLabour

Every year, your Westborough

Councillors donate and decorate a Christmas tree to our Ward, which we plant infront of Westcliff Library. 🎄📖📚
We hope it brightens the day of residents and passers-by. Merry Christmas all! 🎅🏻❄️
It's that time of year again. I'm en-route to Liverpool for annual
@UKLabour
Party Conference.
National Conference is where Delegates from local branches all over the country decide our Party's policies moving into the next General Election.
Fantastic support out on the doorsteps of Westborough Ward today!
Many thanks to the great team of volunteers (including an excellent first-time canvasser) who came out to help us deliver another Labour win.

From all of us at
@SouthendLabour

@UKLabour
East team for putting together such a fantastic weekend of events for us. 🌹
It was a real pleasure to play host to the Shadow Secretary of State for Justice,
@SteveReedMP

As many will know, our Ward saw an act of violent crime earlier this week. It was reassuring to hear Steve prioritise prevention of such incidents. ⬇️
What a treat to be joined by
@darrenpjones

@Bill_Esterson

It was fantastic to hear their inspiring plans for their respective portfolios in the Treasurery 💷 and in Transport 🚅.
What a show! I was absolutely blown away by the electric atmosphere ⚡️ of last night's Southend-on-Sea Enough is Enough UK rally!
It's time to turn anger into action! ✊🏻

Tonight I received my booster of COVID vaccine. 💉
A sincere "thank you" to the hardworking staff at the Southend Civic Centre vaccination site. I was thoroughly impressed with how smoothly the whole process is being run. 👩🏽⚕️ The NHS is truly our most precious public service 💙
I was elated to have bumped into the towering intellect of

I was disappointed that I didn't happen to have my copy of his book with me, but in lieu of an autograph he was kind enough to oblige me with a selfie. 📸 Thanks!
I have written to
@Anna_Firth
this evening, asking that she do the right thing and tell the 1922 Committee that
@BorisJohnson
does not have the confidence of the residents of Southend West.
If he attributed any importance to our Parliamentary Democracy at all, they would resign.

A fantastic turnout for

My neighbouring seat of Southend East and Rochford has been neglected by the
@Conservatives
for decades. It is no surprise that voters here are flocking to
@UKLabour
in search of fresh representation. 🌹
A phenomenal result for
@SouthendLabour
last night, as our Cross-Party budget ammendments decisively passed, defeating the pernicious Southend

It only rains in Santiago a few times a year. Sitting in a valley, the city is usually shrouded in fog.
The day prior to me taking this photo, it rained all day, meaning that I caught this extremely rare, clear view of the entire city with snow-capped mountain peaks to frame it!
Each year, the Mayor of Southend-on-Sea plants a tree in their Ward for Holocaust Memorial Day, in memory of the millions of lives lost to genocide.
As one of my Westborough Ward colleagues, Cllr Kevin Robinson chose to plant this year's tree in front of Westcliff Library.
