I've avoided Boeing (and United) for almost a year, with much trouble and disruption. If you're not sure why I'm writing this, you're not paying attention. Fly Airbus. Fly anything else. Tell your loved ones the same.
I am pro-open-source and pro-decentralization for everything.
@OpenAI
is an incredible company. They've pushed the frontier. I also love open-source projects like
@NousResearch
.
We need all of it, working together, to accelerate science.
my main account tl is full of ppl discussing Q learning/ reinforcement learning for the first time and nobody bothers to notice that the father of RL (Sutton) and John Carmack have their own AGI co
A dedication to the poet Ranier Maria Rilke on his birthday. No writer has had more impact on my life, I think of his words often.
In Florence, I used Rilke's letters as my map. In Venice, I printed out Rilke's descriptions of historical sites and read them to
@ErikVoorhees
I love Vegas and don’t know if I could ever give up having a place there. Every few months I just need to bathe in the neon lights and the hyper-capitalism
The most striking thing about this book was how much of SBF's life choices were faithfully guided by his "ethics." An extreme version of Utilitarianism popularized by Effective Altruism (and the associated misapplication of probability theory).
He really is a true believer.
🚨Exclusive: a report commissioned by the U.S. government says advanced AI could pose an "extinction-level threat to the human species" and calls for urgent, sweeping new regulations
I massively respect Elon but there’s so many obvious red flag assumptions in this that I’m just confused how he can’t see it tbh.
Like you telling me these people can solve intelligence when they can’t even themselves present a logically sound argument ?
I recently interviewed at Eight Sleep and it was the most demanding take home I've ever had. Their brief: "Create an in-app experience for a new product, integrating the existing app and flagship product." Even linked their design system and font family to use.
"You are ruled by thousands of people who are just as mediocre. Their power relies on tax advantages from the federal government, a DEI bureaucracy backed by Biden's Department of Justice, and the implicit consent of millions of Americans.
I say we withdraw that consent, and all
The most important point about Claudine Gay's plagiarism isn't that she was fired, but that she had the job--the most prestigious job in higher education--after an extremely thin record of accomplishment. Claudine Gay has never published an article--even a plagiarized one--that
FYI the Defense Production Act allows the state to temporarily nationalize and control any private business they want during emergencies.. This seems like the easiest way to bypass congress and pass laws...
This is why crypto will win, tradfi is already getting too annoying. The upcoming investment class can either go on-chain or start a VC fund and deal with the last performance tricks of a declining nation run by a neverending supply of Jim Taggarts
VC firms in California… “must report, for example, the race of the people they back, as well as their disability status and sexual orientation.”
High on the list of things I do not want to *annually survey* founders I work with about: orientation. Still gay? Cool, cool.

Stumbled on this podcast episode on Rilke last year, not knowing what to expect. It ended up being one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard in my life
There's hubris in current AI research when we don't even have an agreed definition and measure of 'intelligence'.
@fchollet
had a great paper on this in 2019. . If you see this nuance, then the timelines are longer and the expectations are lower.
Telling of the current state of cultural malaise that teenage girls are worshipping an emotionless female borg whose lyrics include "It's me, I am the problem" and "I don't want to live forever"
Went to see the
@taylorswift13
Eras Tour movie yesterday.
The mall was bustling and the theater was packed.
Pre-teens spent the entire 3 hour run-time screaming in the aisles.
The Dream of the 1990s isn’t dead yet.
I'm glad but even the tech industry was fucking dumb the last few years. Now planes are falling out of the sky and people are pretending that they were always skeptical
Didn't realize the party was the print cover story of the NYT Sunday Business section.
We organized the party in days on a small budget.
@shivani_3000
and I ran around SF printing those banners hours before the party lol, surreal to see them here
INNOVATE OR GET OUT THE WAY
Do you really wanna build AGI and have Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom, or Donald Trump in charge of it?
Building AGI without decentralized governance systems already in place is a massive error imo. Open-source AI is not enough for a world with such consolidated, centralized power
To me the only thing worth building immediately is AGI.
Want to solve longevity? Build AGI first.
Want to build scalable functional robots? Build AGI first.
Want to invent Programmable Matter? Build AGI first.
Want to make fusion energy work in a reasonable time frame? BUILD AGI
Normie journalists continuously lie and do anything to avoid giving the tech industry credit. Here's
@NewYorker
now describing December's open source AI & e/acc rave as a '300-person party'. ~800 people showed up, on a Monday night, at an event announced that morning.
This seems both true and flawed. The other industry labels have all been used more colloquially, so negative connotations had time to build. If 'onchain' got big enough, it'd likely have the same fate. We gotta just defend this tech way more.
FYI:
@coinbase
and
@base
have done a bunch of consumer research and "onchain" outperforms every other word that people use for crypto
if you're using blockchain, web3, crypto, etc, find a way to switch to onchain and you will be more successful
tk (
@tomkysar
) is one of the best builders in the space. he's been doing crypto forever and always principled.
listen to him talk about why he built

The core tech of the current AI breakthroughs is as old as AI itself: the perceptron was already invented in 1957! How can we improve on this? is a new MIT startup that rethinks function approximation, using Liquid Neural Networks:
the night following the storm was my favorite of burning man ever tbh. techno set on the playa until sunrise, super vibey in bad conditions (deep mud), no normies would have trekked it. lost my shoes
Today California is taking the necessary step to regulate a market that is volatile, risky, and, in some cases, deliberately rigged against everyday consumers. Thank you to Governor Newsom for helping ensure that our state leads in fostering responsible innovation.

We are at an early stage with DAOs, and many of them are facing governance issues because there is no obvious correct answer. Look at the global range of political
That depth of love wasn’t available to us any earlier for whatever reason, but it is available. I want to make it available to everyone by reminding you it exists.
5/ The writings of Machiavelli and his disciples (as detailed in The Machiavellians: Defenders of Freedom) offer a valuable perspective for solving these challenges, as the upheaval and social power struggles they focused on can be analogized to the issues DAOs face today.

Urbit Assembly is amazing. This is the most beautifully produced event I’ve ever attended; wish

@evertas
could sponsor, and I’m on a panel about security this afternoon. Catching up w lots of friends.
i love my cryptopunk but changing my profile pic in the hope that i stop getting spammed NFT crap. the amount of spam on this site is absurd- twitter has become barely functional for me
thanks
@realGeorgeHotz
you said open source the software
it took some work
you said work on it in the open, we mostly are
a few more bits to untangle
expect updates, bumps and performance regularly
Optimizing for diversity over competency will cost lives. This is an excellent essay on the topic.
Long-term intellectual and technological progress depends on more of us actively opposing this decline.
@APompliano
Idea is cool but how can you claim to understand crypto culture and launch something with such sucky aesthetic design? the branding looks like my 2008 high school math homework
