I mean I would argue AlphaGo was a crazier accomplishment than GPT-3. It’s one of the first implementations of AI doing something supremely superhuman that was thought impossible.
We just have a bias to be impressed by language because it feels human.

Yes. Because the quality studies that have come out have shown that cloth masks are largely useless, and surgical masks are useless except in passing (grocery store trips, coffee shop trips, etc). Yet they were mandated for travel, sports games, etc, where they were ineffective.
