imo the coffee market in india is an eg of credit mkt imperfections. real coffee is often cheaper than instant (~170/100g vs 250+/100g) in the long run. but because of credit constraints people cannot often buy equipment to make real coffee, which leads to instant dominance.

removing cycle rickshaws by fiat is not a win. the reason rich countries that they try to mimic doesn't have rickshaws is because everyone is prosperous enough that noone needs to become a rickshaw driver. which is not the case with karnataka. this is similar to slum demolition

Cycle rickshaws were banned in Chennai in 1960's. Looks like it's the same case with Karnataka. I can't believe that Northern India still continues with the inhuman practice

The transformation of Andy Mukherjee from an insightful business economy commentator to a standard issue anti-Modi oped artist is complete. Yer another victim of Modi Derangement Syndrome.

@PJ11819211 there are lots of innovation indices that places European countries at the top, just google. the ones that exclude europe get popular on twt because of rampant belief that tech is consumer facing internet ponzi schemes

@Noahpinion @BlueCheese608 @scienceisstrat1 Bhalla is a repeat offender and not a legit source, poverty has declined but not as much as he thinks (fun fact, both the authors are massive modi simps and think demonetization was net good, at this point nothing by them should be taken seriously)

Bhalla et al go back to the traditional approach of projecting poverty from national accounts. But they make two big adjustments, yielding much less poverty. 10/
