for helping me with research. Your support means a huge amount to me. It was during a trip to the Memorial that I first learned that the kommandant's daughter Brigitte lived outside of Washington DC and set me on the road to this interview...
74 years ago today a German Jew (my great uncle Hanns Alexander)) captured the Kommandant of Auschwitz (Rudolf Hoess). The Kommandant provided key testimony at Nuremberg which changed how we remember the Holocaust.

The magnificent Hella Pick died this morning. A truly extraordinary person: a Kindertransport refugee committed to reconciliation with Germany and Austria, a trailblazing journalist, an acclaimed author and a dear dear friend. ❤️❤️❤️

My uncle Hanns Alexander arrived a few days after the liberation, he helped clear the camp, and then interrogated the SS officers (Kramer, Volkenrath, Grese) hearing for the first time from them about the selections and murders in Auschwitz.
Chancellor Scholz visited the

Don't think he saw their deaths, but he interviewed them repeatedly. Then went to his boss, Major Genn, to say that he could be more useful if he tracked down some SS officers on the run. Which he did, and he captured Kommandant of Auschwitz Rudolf Hoess a few months later.
First time pictures published of the daughter of Kommandant of Auschwitz. This is the same family featured in the film ZONE OF INTEREST. It took me 3 years to persuade her to speak with me. Sometimes it's worth the wait...

Here it is again. Uncle Hanns describes his arrest of Rudolf Hoess, the Kommandant of Auschwitz. His tone of voice is pure gold.
A reminder of what can happen when politicians and media encourage prejudice and hate ... On this day in 1938 my family's synagogue on Fasanenstrasse in Berlin was burned to the ground.

Honestly, waiting for book reviews is nerve wracking. I have worked 4+ years on this book and my anxiety levels are high. Will I get any reviews? Will they be good? Will they focus on my mistakes? Can I write? So getting a “Book of the Day“ is a relief.
Incredible, what
@DeboraHarding
has come through. This is an amazing piece.

Done. I am a huge supporter of your work. And very grateful for all the help you gave me during the research for my book HANNS AND RUDOLF.
Very excited. Just seen the cover for my new book which comes out Aug 29. About my Jewish family who arrived in GB in 1840s and went on to set up J Lyons (teashops, corners houses, Lyons Maid etc). Assimilation, anti-semitism, Empire, democratization of luxury and delicious food
This week Florence installed Stumblestones for 27 people killed by the Nazis. Two were for Zaira and Ione Coen, Jewish sisters in their 60s, arrested on 15 Apr ‘44, killed days later in Auschwitz. In 2023 the 100,000th Stumblestone will be installed. They are now in 30+countries.

76 years ago today my uncle Hanns Alexnader tracked down and arrested Rudolf Hoess the Kommanfant of Auschwitz. Hoess gave evidence at Nuremberg and was hanged next to the crematorium in Auschwitz. Justice can be served. Justice will be served.
Very sad to announce my cousin Roy Gluckstein died recently aged 91 of Covid 19. He was a huge help in my writing "LEGACY". He also built an archive for the artist 'Gluck' who was his aunt. Indeed it is partly thanks to Roy that people know about Gluck and her work.

This is the entrance to the Jewish ghetto in Venice. More than 4,000 Jews were locked inside at night. It was the first ghetto in the world, started 1516, lasted for almost 300 years.
