Fond memories of training and working in The Mater in the 1980s as did my sister and 2 brothers and of course my mother - to this day she’s still proud to be a Mater nurse 👩⚕️
On this day in 1861 the Mater Misericordiae Hospital, Dublin opened for the reception of forty patients. The building cost was £27,000 of which £10,000 was contributed by the Sisters of Mercy. It is the oldest general hospital in the city still operating on its original site.
