people under 35? oh you mean much of the service industry in maryland that you’re forcing to work during a pandemic because you decided to push them off unemployment?
The current infection rate among Marylanders under the age of 35 is more than 50% higher than the rate among those who are 35 and older. Younger people seem to feel bulletproof, but we cannot afford to stop being vigilant and cautious.
going to philadelphia from baltimore for two hours just to have lunch with a friend and a pleasant walk. the northeast corridor is the europe of america
i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again: maryland is too weirdly shaped a state to not be using ferries. it is basic geography and we are worse off for the loss of bay travel. There Ought To Be A Ferry.
@james_f_thomas
this is exactly like in the sound of music when Maria thanked the children for such a nice gift (a surprise frog in her pocket) in front of their father and within 3 minutes all of the kids were sobbing at the dinner table
baltimore city will tell anyone and everyone about a curfew for children, but when the outside air is burning your eyes and throat, they lose your number real quick
@north0fnorth
as a former resident of a 51 1/2: every single form is different and you must always be prepared with infinite minutely different iterations of your address
it always cracks me up when people who live in the suburbs and drive into baltimore for jobs think they are somehow worth more to the city than the people that actually live here
my fav Philly/Baltimore regional practice is how we visit each other’s cities and say “what the hell, the [infrastructure] here is so much better than the [infrastructure] there” and then everyone from the other city is like “actually we’re mad as hell about [infrastructure]”
insane small town drama in Oxford MD, a town of 600, in which it seems some woman in Trappe and her whole family have engineered a hostile takeover of the town’s government and budget
here’s the thing….if MARC went to Wilmington, that would give baltimore a SEPTA connection and open up the whole philly-balto region. do any transit people know if this is being studied at all and/or if there’s any chance of it ever happening
the new Atlas restaurant that opened in Philly got absolutely cooked by a review in the
@PhillyInquirer
this week
overpriced and oversalted with “undrinkable” cocktails; “swings big & misses”
giving directions to out of towners like yeah man it’s a grid system, pretty easy to navigate, oh you’re heading west? well as soon as you cross howard you’ll be entering the Diagonal Zone, best of luck man

@generalslug
i feel like the idea that that tiny little thing is a nose is just so overwhelming it frightened him. like the concept of a nose that small is too revolutionary
1. operator identified for new grocery store
2. Richter’s apartment project NOT going ahead as originally planned, leaving that area with an empty parking lot he has no plans to fix i guess
3. Absolutely NO way the Eager bldg is turnkey. It looks terrible
the former Odorite store in mount vernon is a large open commercial space, centrally located within the neighborhood & in a high foot traffic area, and it has a commercial loading dock. it would be a perfect space for a grocery store in MV now that Eddie’s (1 block south) closed
any other demographic groups disproportionately affected by covid that you want to blame for rising rates of infection, larry? or would that make things a little weird for you all of a sudden?
i always vaguely assumed this was the reason i never saw any of our local gunshots reported, but this is even more specific than i expected. every map of baltimore is the same map
i take the buses and the light rail and the MARC, but never had cause to take the metro until today! great headways, insane user experience, wishing so much that the upcoming red line could be fully incorporated into this system
LGBTQ Banner staffers: unionize right now. I work at a place that puts out public work and you better believe if our whole team felt this way about something we would have the power to say no, because we are unionized. Use this momentum and do it as soon as possible.
This week we fell short of our commitments to the community. Here is a note from me: an apology and some news about a public editor. Thank you to those who took the time to send me thoughtful feedback.

i also wasn’t there to see it fall in person, but a fun fact about this video is that my mother is absolutely positive i am in it, & it still circulates on right wing tv news. so every so often she texts me like “they’re showing you on the tv again…you are my greatest shame”
i’ve seen multiple queer-owned/operated businesses fall into this trap. i get how it happens & see the good intent but the best thing you can do for your employees is give them good pay, benefits, time off, & emotional separation from work!!
talking to a guy up in the county said we were from baltimore he said “haven’t you been having some trouble with bge lately” and i don’t know what piece of local news i was expecting to hear at the end of that question but it absolutely wasn’t that

Maryland
@GovWesMoore
gave a warning that tough financial choices are ahead for the state.
Speaking to county leaders in Ocean City, he didn't offer much in the way of details about how to solve the budget problems.
"Everything is on the table."
baltimore city needs to eminent domain this little area, get rid of the fence, and connect the waterfront path for real. there is absolutely no good reason for this segment to be as goofy as it is
Fix Pratt and Light, today, now. put up cones if you have to. roads like this, designed for high speeds and aggressive driving, do not belong in our downtown or near our waterfront
Total disregard for pedestrians. These three just ran red lights at Light & Light / Pratt. I’m so sick of taking my life into my own hands every time I cross this street.
@MayorBMScott
why aren’t we doing anything to slow traffic here?
walking from harbor east to fells not via the waterfront path and you really get a sense that Atlas, Sinclair, Paterakis et al have coordinated that corridor to suck as much as possible in order to keep people feeling fenced into harbor east
i did not anticipate being in the pet ER the night before i have my first of three surgeries within a month, but here we all are. send your best wishes out to our big little guy please
@punished_cait
honestly i think a large part of it is that your account is getting HEAVILY served to random people on the TL. i do not follow you but i see your tweets every day multiple times a day and i have to imagine a lot of rude weirdos are also having the same experience
we just found the sweetest little cat in mt vernon! do you know her? she is definitely somebody’s baby!
*disclaimer i am doing every other thing you should also do when you find a cat and need no advice on the particulars, i just feel like her ppl might not even know she’s lost
it is kind of bananas that we have the infrastructure for baltimore locals and tourists to get on a free boat that goes across the harbor to multiple waterfront sites and it is not advertised, used, prioritized, or discussed
more on Charles Center: meet Charles Plaza, another major component of the urban renewal project. located at Charles & Saratoga across from old st. paul’s church
meanwhile, this is Ivan Bates’ perch: on the 10th floor of a luxury condo building in Silo Point. i can’t see the streets of Baltimore from here, can you?
Bates: "Misleading talking points may sound good to the activists who would like you to believe this from high up on their perch overlooking the streets of Baltimore, or from those who see their city in a view from their county homes."
